Why does Trump give so much support to Netanyahu and Israel

First of all, this is not an anti-semitic post, I have no issues with the Jewish faith or with the people of Israel, I do , however, have huge issues with Netanyahu and his current government. Below is taken from today's Washington Post and outlines what Trump has agreed to during his first term and to date in his second term. IMO, the war being conducted in Iran ATM is basically to Netanyahu's and Israel's benefit, not really to the benefit of the US. So why does Trump act as he does? Surely it's not just to appease American Jews as it is alienating far more American voters?

"Through five years in the White House, Trump answered some of their biggest prayers. He moved the American Embassy to Jerusalem, recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights and ripped up the Iran nuclear deal. U.N. funding for Palestinian refugees was gutted. Jewish settlers in the West Bank, once condemned by Washington, are now getting their own U.S. passport office."

He gets $230 million a year from the Israeli lobby in America.

ronib Mon 09-Mar-26 14:54:36

Well Trump’s out of pocket on this deal. Unless Trump’s using the rising prices to curb manufacturing in China? Who knows what goes on behind the baseball cap?

"Trump derangement syndrome having its day …."

I don't see any Trump derangement syndrome, Ronib, just a lot of valid comments based on fact with a few suggestions thrown in for good measure. How do you know that Trump is out of pocket? His son in law runs an investment fund that manages billions of dollars invested by the Gulf states and it invests heavily in American and Israeli businesses. A tip off from the White House prior to major events can lead to huge gains. there is also evidence yet again of what seems like insider trading prior to the start of this war.

who knows with this deluded man - he may have just woken up one day and did it on a whim.

ronib Mon 09-Mar-26 15:21:41

How much do you think it is costing America to fight this war? foxie48.

foxie48 Mon 09-Mar-26 15:33:29

Billions but it's not coming out of Trump's pocket, it's being paid for by American citizens. It is more than likely that Trump ie the Trump family is making money out of this war.

$1billion per day is the figure I've seen quoted.

However, the arms manufacturers will make a packet out of it, so not everyone loses..

ronib Mon 09-Mar-26 15:36:08

How do the Trump family sleep at night if that’s the case? Some investigative journalists need to start digging up the facts rather than continuing supposition.

Oh, come on, ronib.

Do you seriously think that the Trump family gives a toss?

foxie48 Mon 09-Mar-26 15:39:31

If you look online there are people digging into this eg reports in The New Yorker about profiteering and insider trading.

ronib Mon 09-Mar-26 16:00:05

The Trump family need to be held accountable if irregularities are proven… are the democrats alive to this?

Fallingstar Mon 09-Mar-26 16:05:37

One thing is for sure, Trump will not suffer financially as a result of this war but ordinary Americans will.

Agree with you David

Me too.

The Meidus Touch has a selection of videos showing how they are going on their usual expensive way and enjoying themselves.
It doesn't affect them.
They will not be selected as 'boots on the ground'.

Maremia Mon 09-Mar-26 16:39:45

Sorry, my spelling the MEIDAS TOUCH.
It's a good watch, unless you prefer Fox News.

Nah. He would have checked the markets first and made sure that he and his cronies would make a stock market killing out of it sad.

Thats probably an underestimate! the US GDP is $32,000 billion, 1 billion even 3 billion a day is not important for 3 reasons

1)They are mainly using up obsolete Cold War weapons. B52s free fall bombs, even the cruise missiles are 30 yrs old

2) Industry in the US is going to make all the new generation of weaponry, make a great deal of money and pay a lot wages and tax on the profits.

3) The US will recoup it quickly as it did in WW2, compare to what the US achieved then, Iran is chicken feed

All that is assuming Trump wins, now that the war has started it has to be finished

Casdon Mon 09-Mar-26 17:24:18

There is no win scenario though David49. If he ‘succeeds’ all he will achieve is a temporary fix and a lot of even more militant Iranians in the wings.

fancythat Mon 09-Mar-26 17:30:56

I sometimes think that that is all he is personally after. "A temporary fix".
He is 79. He wont be around for ever.
Did read though that he may go for a third term.

fancythat Mon 09-Mar-26 17:32:13

Politics in general has become more and more about short termism.
Doubt Trump wil care much what is happening in the world in 10 years time.

Israel is the 51st state of America. They are one and the same. Most people from Israel who are interviewed on tv speak with American accents. It is a shame the extremists on both sides ruin everything for the peaceful majority.

This and money.

Apparently the affected Arab nations are not pleased that the USA did not protect them, as had been promised, when the bases were originally being negotiated.
The USA has lost face over this.
Some Arab nations advised Trump to desist, and stick to the diplomacy route.
He ignored their advice, then failed to protect them.
This has been noted.

Trump has done a massive amount of damage to international relations with most countries since becoming president. Am not entirely sure that another president could manage to reverse it.
