This is to continue the discussion on the key thread that is monitoring the war.

Today's bombings quite shocking. Terrified civilians who are supposed to be "grateful" to Trump.

At the same time, the Iranian response, to draw other countries into the war, is going to cause widespread reactions. Trump started forces he could not have predicted. He's now taking about it appears non existing mines in the vital sea straits.

And his own country is vulnerable re the cost of oil. And that wont go down well domestically.....

At the same time, the level of bombing in the Lebanon is also shocking me.

The failure of the media to report on the illegality of Trump’s actions is disgraceful. No criticism. Just numbers and strategy. Hesgeth is a drunk psycho now renamed Secretary of War. It’s Orwellian.

I can’t help thinking Israel is looking to further extend iits borders into southern Lebanon. It is terrible what is going on and I feel very for them given that Israel broke the ceasefire.

Netanyahu odoes not want the war to end of course, whereas Trump has become bored with it. If it ends before the October election he will not be able to avoid criminal charges and court proceedings.

Chris Murphy - senator - reporting on a closed meeting about the Iran war.

Most was classified, but he does share the following information

2/ Maybe the lead is that the war goals DO NOT involve destroying Iran's nuclear weapons program. This is, uh...surprising...since Trump says over and over this is a key goal.

But then of course we already know air strikes can't wipe out their nuclear material.

3/ Second, they confirmed "regime change" is also NOT on the list. So, they are going to spend hundreds of billions of your taxpayer dollars, get a whole bunch of Americans killed, and a hardline regime - probably a MORE anti-American hardline regime - will still be in charge.

4/ Ok, so what ARE the goals? It seems, primarily, destroying lots of missiles and boats and drone factories.

But the question that stumped them: what happens when you stop bombing and they restart production?

They hinted at more bombing. Which is, of course, endless war.

5/ And on the Strait of Hormuz, they had NO PLAN. I can't go into more detail about how Iran gums up the Strait, but suffice it say, right now, they don't know how to get it safely back open.

Which is unforgiveable, because this part of the disaster was 100% foreseeable.

As soon as the war started almost everyone from world leaders to ordinary people knew that this was the very worst idea ever, some clung to the hope that it would be the end of the regime but that vain hope has now been binned. The looks of bewilderment and sheer disbelief on veteran war correspondents faces was clear to see. And their commentary was peppered with the word ‘why’.
Now we not only know but can see why this was the worst idea ever. Increasing escalation and of course deaths of civilians, chaos in a region that could seek to wreak revenge on neighbouring countries for a very long time, and the inevitable knock on effect to oil prices which will cause a global cost of living crisis.
Did Trump have any advice regarding this before he decided to play war games with Netanyahu??
It seems not, and that is a very very frightening prospect for the world. That a man with so little discernible intellect and even less conscience in charge of a super power can go rogue like this whenever he feels like it.

All they will achieve is more hardline resistance against the west including a hardening in those states that are allies, because America has signally failed to defend these countries against Iran attacks on the American airbases etc.

In fact the USA has simply failed at it all.

Sadly I agree 100%.

So much for the blustering Trump, whom at his re-election, stated very loudly and clearly he would stop the wars in Gaza and Ukraine in a matter of weeks!

Not only has this not happened but he’s managed to start a third war.

Well done Trump, you’ve been well and truly duped and played by both Putin and Netanyahu.

Trump is ill equipped to be the leader of a powerful nation both intellectually and morally. He has surrounded himself with similarly unstable sycophants.
The result is their madness spreading across the world and causing chaos.

There will be unrest in the middle east for a long time after this totally unnecessary war and it will spread far and wide.
Trump's addled brain calls this winning.

wales786 Wed 11-Mar-26 13:40:45

It’s genuinely alarming that after so many misguided actions, not a single adviser seems able—or willing—to intervene and stop these decisions before they cause more damage.

😰😰 Very sad and scary times

Perhaps I have missed previous comments, but I am surprised that nearly all of the criticism is aimed at Trump & his cronies.
Much as this is deserved, Israel's role in this illegal conflict in Iran is often overlooked and their actions elsewhere ignored or sidelined.
These include major incursions into Lebanon (as mentioned by the OP).
Israeli airstrikes, shelling, and gunfire have continued across the Gaza Strip, in spite of the ceasefire agreement, resulting in significant civilian casualties.
In the West Bank three Palestinians have been killed in separate settler incidents in March.
Meantime, Netanyahu has received support for his actions from opposition politicians and opinion polls in Israel show overwhelming support. So, his chances of clinging on to power have just got considerably better.
Trump, and his cabal will eventually announce that they have achieved their objectives, making these up to suit the situation. But, the Middle East will be even more unstable and Israel will continue to carry out illegal operations with no consequences.

winterwhite Wed 11-Mar-26 14:32:01

Mawmac your final paragraph puts it in a nutshell.

WithNobsOnIt Wed 11-Mar-26 15:25:21

This war is all about keeping the Oil price high so the elites and banks can keep making even more money ad infinitum.

All Oil Sales world wide are paid for in US dollars and have been since the 1973's. Theso called petrodollar. Remember OPEC?.

Fallingstar Wed 11-Mar-26 15:44:45

Mawmac of course this is down to Israel, Netanyahu found a useful idiot in Trump who went along with his Bond Villain plans for the ME. But Trump, like other US presidents, had to option to rein Netanyahu in, this isn’t the first time Netanyahu threatened to hit Iran but other presidents used substantial leverage to convince him otherwise, knowing how much would be at risk in the region. So I suppose everyone is totally outraged by Trump because only he could have prevented this, and he didn’t. Now we are all left having to deal with the consequences.

USA found at fault in the bombing of the school.

I suppose they are taking lessons from Israel.

Mawmac, sadly true.

Maremia Wed 11-Mar-26 16:01:43

I think I'll re-read what that Ambassador Huckabee said.
Didn't take it all in at the time. Thought it was just 'ramblings', but maybe it was a statement of intent.

Pix5 Wed 11-Mar-26 16:31:51

This is just supposition. You have no factual proof of what Netanyahu wants or whether there are mines in the Straight of Hormuz. Whenever people write about the war or anything else, please write with actual fact rather than fiction. Some people are not capable of understanding which is which and take it out on the communities they deem are somehow involved in other countries. For example Muslims and Jews living in the diaspora.

I can only assume that either the advisors are so scared for their own skin that they are just yes men, or yes women, or they are as barking as Trump.

Maremia Wed 11-Mar-26 17:18:58

Integrity? It has been claimed that Eric and Donald Junior now run a company selling military drones...to the Pentagon.

Maremia Wed 11-Mar-26 20:48:34

Apparently, the Italians are not coming to the war zone, to support an illegal war.

mae13 Thu 12-Mar-26 02:42:39

Well, this is quite a puzzle.

Trump claims the war is over but "we haven't won enough".

But if this war really is over then why is the shooting and bombing still going on?

Fuhrer Trump needs to decide when a war truly is over and when it truly is not.
