Mr Trump Can't Shut This War Down........

.......even if he wants to because he's lost control of Netanyahu.

The Israeli military is going berserk with the full blessing of Netanyahu. The US giving him support was a disastrous mis-calculation and now Israel seemingly doesn't need Trump anymore.

If he thought he would have the Iran business done and dusted in about a week, and he would come out of it as King of the World........well, his biggest mistake (among many) so far.

But if they were stopped, because the entire Strait was closed, then the huge economic impact on China and India might drawn them into the war as defendants of Iran against USA, Israel.

I assumed it might be the opposite.
Now I am not so sure.

Why would they then defend Iran?
To get their oil out?

Maremia Mon 23-Mar-26 10:11:24

Hadn't thought of that angle butterandjam.

Trump's threat to Iran that they have 48 hours to open the Strait has resulted in Iran saying if Trump takes action they will close the strait to all shipping.

That may be beneficial to the US and others?

Then India and China etc acnnot get their oil either?

Or have I got that wrong?

Chinese and Indian ships have not been stopped from entering the strait.
No country that supports Iran has been stopped.

But if they were stopped, because the entire Strait was closed, then the huge economic impact on China and India might drawn them into the war as defendants of Iran against USA, Israel.

So maybe the subtext of Iran's threat is a message to Trump " We don't have any nuclear weapons , but we have friends who do."

Neither of whom are about to let Empire USA take control of Iran's oil and gas assets like it has in Venezuela.

That was really to Fallingstar.

I cant see how he can have planned much when in January he was talking about Greenland, striked Venezuela, and there was talk about Cuba etc.

The Cubans are suffering as a result of the oil embargo and additional tariffs on countries which export oil to Cuba.

Trump wants regime change there too but so far hasn't gone in with missiles, thankfully. However, the peop,e are starving and desperate.

Is there nowhere that is safe from his meddling?

We bought in our oil a few months early.
Trump was jumping about talking about 5 different countries.
I didnt like the way it was going.
Assumed he was going to strike somewhere.
And it would have oil price implications at the very least.
He cannot be trusted. And is volatile.

Wasnt really expecting him to strike Iran, compared to the other 4 or so.
But this one had less implications and choices for eg NATO to make, than others might have done.

AGAA4 Mon 23-Mar-26 09:43:10

For every action there is a reaction. Trump blurts out another threat and Iran respond with their own threats.
This could go on ad infinitum until someone concedes defeat.
That should be Trump but he will retreat saying he has won in his usual arrogant way.

Fallingstar Mon 23-Mar-26 09:35:17

I fear that we are not the only ones second guessing what will happen, I firmly believe that Trump hasn’t a clue either. This whole war feels like a jumped up and cobbled together plan that was bound to go horribly wrong. So nobody knows why it had to begin and nobody knows how it will end.

Maremia Mon 23-Mar-26 09:28:30

It could also mean developing an argument that Posters are calling out as bogus.

AGAA4 Mon 23-Mar-26 09:19:42

petra If Trump attacks the gas field Iran have said it will close the strait completely. As of now countries friendly to Iran can pass through safely but that may change.

ronib Mon 23-Mar-26 08:30:56

I think it means developing an argument nanna8 in a way certain posters don’t understand/like?? Tough

nanna8 Mon 23-Mar-26 08:28:28

Yes, what is playing out ? Never heard that phrase but I suspect it is catty.

I’ve reached the conclusion that ronib is playing out

I’ve reached the conclusion that you are correct. In fact I have thought that for some few months.

AGAA4 Mon 23-Mar-26 08:04:53

There's nobody who does shoddy as well as Trump nanna8. He is the very best at shoddy. He is the most shoddy person that the world has ever known.

nanna8 Mon 23-Mar-26 04:36:28

Why should any one of us give answers? We are not politicians in positions of power . They are supposed to be the ones with the answers. Clearly they have no clue, any of them. What a shoddy bunch they are and that is why we are in such a mess.

Casdon Sun 22-Mar-26 21:15:46

I’m not the one who thinks that Iran has the missiles capable of bombing the UK, so I won’t be going anywhere. It’s ronib who is thinking of relocating to the Outer Hebrides. She will enjoy railing against the other islanders I’m sure, it’s an SNP stronghold.

Wow Casdon…. You think I should give answers???
I am sitting tight over the next few days. I suggest you do the same before jumping in…. Or leaving the country…. Maybe move to Scotland?

😂The Outer Hebrides maybe.

I've heard that Muckle Flugga is nice at this time of year.
Pack your thermals, though.

I hadn’t realised that the government had issued any new advice apart from saying we as a country can’t be hit with a ballistic missile? Given that we don’t have an iron dome, it’s not very helpful because we can be … let’s wait and see what next week brings…..

ronib you provide no evidence to support your assertion, so what you say is not credible.
I also think you are confusing guidance for preparedness for citizens in the event of emergencies with the current situation in Iran. What is it you think you need to be told additionally as a citizen that is specific to this situation?

valdavi Sun 22-Mar-26 18:39:17

It’s a bit premature to agree with anyone LJ but don’t let that stop you. It’s an incredibly tense and unknown situation and your faith in this government is perhaps misplaced? Steve is not credible.

I don't find Israeli spokesmen credible either.
