The other calculation to take into account is that the US also supplies most of the military equipment. What is supplied is sometimes older redundant weapons and when it's more up to date, Nato is effectively helping the US to produce it's own weapons more cheaply due to volume. Nato is a good customer of US based defence manufacturers. Also, because Nato relies on US surveillance equipment, it is basically tied into buying from the US. This is a valuable asset to America. It's not just all about the numbers on a spreadsheet!

I stand by my post fancythat that Trump is no asset to NATO. Being an asset is more than how much money is contributed. It's about working with other NATO members and not trying to drag them into an illegal war, and then bitching because you don't think they're doing enough to help you.

Why is he so disillusioned with the UK when according to Trump today, our air craft carriers are no better than toys, the war's all but over and he doesn't need them or us anyway.

These are the words of a money grabbing, war mongering, egotistical fool; not anyone who can realistically be regarded as an asset.

Would you be more than happy for him to withdraw the US from NATO.

NATO is not Europe. Trump has carried out action which was not in accordance with NATO’s defensive goals. If Trump opts to leave NATO it will continue, and the door will be open for the USA to rejoin when the toddler has gone.

Trump reminds me of those people who have a disagreement with someone and then do a character assassination on them.
He is a spiteful mean minded weak man who can't cope with stronger characters.

How will the world economy be the driver, if 70% of NATO funding disappears overnight?

Europe cannot make up that shortfall!

Iran has Trump in a stranglehold. He wants to find an off ramp and get out of this war. If he leaves Iran will claim victory even if Trump says he has won nobody will believe him.
I'm not sure what will happen if he abandons the war and leaves Iran in charge of the Strait of Hormuz.
Will he be held to account in the US for the mess he has made and loss of money?

I cant see Canada or somewhere making up a 70% funding shortfall.

I cant see all 31 Countries increasing their giving by at least 3 times the current amount.

Apparently there are no talks. Pakistan is acting as a messenger between the two countries, messages are not "talks". I sense there is continued stalemate.
