Let’s not “prejudge” the local election results, let’s wait and actually see what happens. I don’t believe Reform as quite as popular as some would believe, certainly not in many of the councils where they became extremely inexperienced and somewhat niave counsellors, many of whom subsequently stepped down.

Btw, neither the Labour Party nor Labour supporters “hate pubs”, I find that comment very amusing!

I would like my grandchildren to emigrate as far from this country as possible, New Zealand would be good.

You do realise that that would make your GC immigrants, the very people that Goodwin loathes.

29% of NZ's population are imigrants. 16% of the UK's population are immigrants.

My daughter is a teacher, as were many of our family, not myself, I’m retired though and I very much “live in the real world”, to infer any one demographic here as not living in the “real world” is simply rude, imo.

Presumably the title is a reference to Birth of a Nation, a very famous film that gives a racist and simplistic view of how ‘the white man’ civilised America, with dreadful depictions of people of colour as unintelligent sexual predators, and the KKK as the heroes of the hour? A coincidence if not.

That’s one reason why I won’t be reading it. Another is the overhyped blurb - anyone claiming to give an ‘unflinching look at reality’ is suggesting that those who disagree are cowardly and don’t know what is ‘real’. That’s not promising an unbiased account either, so it doesn’t sound like my cup of tea.

There’s enough ill-informed prejudice available online, neatly packaged in bite-size chunks - no need to plough through a book written by someone who believes he has the key to reality.

Thank you for replying, I am interested in what you mean by ill informed prejudice. It does come across as you meaning anyone who disagrees with you! I know that most on this kind of forum of N&P are not likely to agree with me. I assume there are a lot of retired teachers etc. in the real world the overwhelming feeling is of a government who puts its citizens last. One of the reasons why Labour hate pubs is that they are places people meet to talk.

It seems there's now a majority of people out there who feel disillusioned and under valued in this country, (just not on GN).
The reason being, that this government appears to be seeking to strongly align themselves with the views and opinions of minorities.

I have no problem with inclusion, but I don't want peferential treatment given to others when the views of the people are dismissed or ignored. And thats how it feels. It hasn't reached suicidal proportions yet, but it has reached not satisfactory or fail levels.

If we have a draconian regime of censorship how come this book has been published and featured in a daily newspaper ?

I did wonder that myself, given the stifling of free speech. If I put what I thought I am sure I would be banned from this site and possibly imprisoned to boot!

Why should I want to read a book - never mind shell out for - a book packed with racism and discourses I am already well familiar with and utterly, profoundly disagree with - ie could have been written in the 1930's?

Selective data and basically a well trodden path.

I imagine he will have a fan base who will read his book. Am afraid it really doesn’t appeal to me.
Am all for people having political views but when I make my own I try to do as much objective research as possible, hard because there is bias everywhere, but I try.

This from someone who supports the policies of the last government that brought us to this demise.

I personally prefer more centrist, less biased views. I feel the same way about far left commentators.
