Should The King’s visit to America be postponed?

I think the King should go. I have every confidence he will handle Trump in an appropriate manner. Most people will ignore what Trump has to say about it the King's my friend, he's a good man, he agrees with me afterwards.

As far as I know, all the previous USA presidents, Republicans and Democrats, have behaved impeccably when visiting or receiving royalty.

On his visits, Trump paid no attention to royal etiquette. He barged in front of the Queen Elizabeth and on a later visit King Charles.He slapped Catherine Duchess of Cambridge on the back and generally behaved like a buffoon.

None of the above bodes well for him being able to handle a royal visit. Rumour has it that King Charles really doesn't want to go.

Having said that, many Americans are not Trump supporters and still wish to maintain cordial relations with the UK. For many Americans, the royal family still commands affection and respect and no doubt they would be very disappointed if the visit were cancelled. After all, this is a momentous occasion celebrating a very important event in the history of the USA.

One of two things could have happened by the expected visit in July.

The first which at present looks very unlikely, is that the war has stopped and negotiations are underway. In which case I think a visit may go ahead

The second, which at present is fearfully likely, is that the war has escalated. A visit I think will be much more problematic, because hopefully Europe will have made it very clear that they have no intention of joining in for fear of a global war. Trump will be no doubt shouting the odds and being rude, which will make it very difficult for Charles.

It’s customary for the visiting dignitary to walk in front when invited to review the troops.
Trump being tall and the late queen so tiny made it an awkward exchange. Thats all.

I think Charles can handle Trump.
But due to the current climate, I think the king should turn him down.

I imagine if we could hear what the King says in private about Trump it would probably be deleted by the mods on here.
Like most other people who are privileged enough to serve in public office he will see him as an uncouth and highly dangerous oaf, but am sure he can bite his lip when meeting him for unlike Trump, no matter how he feels about people he will not resort to ‘loudmouthed moron in the pub’ remarks. Strangely Trump doesn’t drink so no blaming it in that. Drugs maybe??

Back in 2004 when I lived in Norway and became interested in 'Scandi' politics, the then Swedish PM, Göran Persson, was allegedly heavily reliant on painkillers for hip pain. He was waiting for hip-replacement surgery. Being a staunch supporter of Sweden's welfare state, he insisted on remaining in the standard public healthcare queue. He had no private healthcare insurance and didn't ask that his surgery be 'expedited' up the queue. He was visibly hindered by his condition, limping around during public engagements.

His critics argued that a national leader’s health was a matter of national security!

As he was on "strong painkillers" (opiates?) - they might have had a point!

Some countries take these issues more seriously than others it seems...

I don’t think his disinhibited speech is a result of drugs, it’s just the way he is.😂

Oreo yes, I agree, he’s disinhibited, I suspect adhd along with his narcissistic personality disorder. But those marks o his hand suggest some kind of drip meds. Few people of his age would have the energy and focus needed in his job without stimulants

Just hope that the Uk doesn’t have to call on the USA any time soon. We have to hope that the royal visit calms the situation down a bit. I imagine that a change of prime minister would help the special relationship. It might help us too.

The chance of any meaningful and reliable help coming from Trump is laughable. He is mentally deranged. Cancelling would become a problem given Trumps temper tantrums so probably to attend and hope it doesn’t exhaust KC3 too much having to deal with the orange wind bag.

There are a lot of Republicans and most Democrats who are absolutely horrified by the damage Trump is doing to the Nato relationship. We just have to weather the storm until he has gone. Even a lot of the Republicans who are publicly backing him now are just brown nosing because they know that they will be bullied out of their roles if they stand up to their dictator boss.
