The Sauvignon Blanc Bottle Mystery

I wasn't sure which forum to put this under, but it was on the BBC News so here it is.

Residents of Hotham and North Cave, in East Yorkshire, say bags full of empty wine bottles have been turning up on grass verges for months.
The bottles are mostly empty Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc bottles and have been dumped on verges and on a nearby hill.

Villa Maria is not one of the cheapest plonks at around £10.75 a bottle so who is the culprit dumping dozens of empty bottles and why there?

I admit Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc is our favourite tipple but, honestly, it's not us - we don't live near there and we only buy it when it's on offer!

I think it said found in just one day Allira May be disposing of them every time they (say) take the dog for a walk.
I didn't see that they were dumped in bags.

Confess I only read it once though.

It seems very odd.

Why not just put them in the recycling at home, or the big bins at supermarkets?

It sounded like the bottles were from a pub or restaurant, not just casual drinking at home, judging by the quantities of empty (not cheap) bottles of wine.

I would agree if it were various wine bottles but one type only?
I think the culprit is Allira and she’s getting her denial in first😂
Hope the magistrate is kind to you Allira

😂😂😂

We put ours in the recycling bin. Only two or three a week 😇

I don't think I could carry a bag full of 48 bottles!

If this was April 1st I could understand it 😀

merlogran I feel rather sorry for the capybara, think they should let a male one free and let them live happily ever after.

It’s a very English sort of mystery isn’t it?😄

Or New Zealand 😁

No mention of a bag Allira!

"The most I've collected in one day is 48."

...maybe you know more than I do??

Oi! not Spaghetti 😁

There were shown on the BBC but I can't post them for some reason.

It's a vintage mystery - who is dumping dozens of sauvignon blanc bottles in the lanes between two pictureseque villages?

Residents of Hotham and North Cave, in East Yorkshire, say bags full of empty bottles have been turning up on grass verges for months.

From my earlier link.

Honest, Your Honour, it weren't me.

Maybe Fergie doesn’t want to risk being spotted at the bottle bank.

Nor in Yorkshire, either.

A previous neighbour was an alcoholic and when I put out the recycling bin I would pick up several bags of empty vodka bottles left down our joint drive. A mystery why he wouldn't do it himself. Did he really think he was hiding them, perhaps that was how his pickled brain worked.

Message from DD who said she recently saw some lovely art made from bottles in France - perhaps they can repurpose them and make something beautiful?

One of my favourites too.
I buy it when Sainsbury’s have 25 % off six bottles but not guilty of dumping my empties m’lud.
It is rather mysterious.

It’s my favourite too, so now there are 3 of us under the spotlight 😬

My favourite too. I’ve just bought 6 bottles. It was already reduced this week to £8 at Asda and then a further 25% off for 6, a bargain at £36. Couldn’t say no 😊
But it wasn’t me either

😲

Did they have a bumper year at Villa Maria last year?

Allira Sun 29-Mar-26 16:54:10

We went there a few years ago but since then, the company has been taken over, imports have increased and some of their wine is bottled here in Cheshire.
