So the latest from Trump is that the UK and other European countries should go to the Straits of Hormuz and fight for their own oil because he isn’t going to help them anymore if they don’t help him.
So a quick translation of Trump speak for yourself -

I started an illegal war and don’t know how to get out of it so am blaming everyone else and expecting them to clean up the mess I made.’

* meant to say you not yourself 🧐

Oreo Tue 31-Mar-26 13:08:11

I don’t think we need it do we? Our oil comes from the US and Norway and the North Sea.

Fallingstar Tue 31-Mar-26 13:09:06

I hope so Oreo.

keepingquiet Tue 31-Mar-26 13:16:17

Ignore him. He'll change his mind...TACO.

fancythat Tue 31-Mar-26 13:20:26

For those who think the Uk is so big, or big with others,... well here we go.

NotSpaghetti Tue 31-Mar-26 13:27:25

His problem is NATO not "helping" his illegal war.
Now he wants to punish NATI.
🤷‍♀️

NotSpaghetti Tue 31-Mar-26 13:27:39

*NATO

He doesn't understand NATO who act in defence not to attack other countries. He is a very ignorant man.

He has to get out of this war as he knows he is in trouble. He is not fit to be president on so many levels.

fancythat Tue 31-Mar-26 13:47:14

NATO and its' citizens have been very ungrateful. In the past and now.
We reap what we sow.

Having said that, yes, Trump does not understand things he ought to.

He has done some very serious miscalculations.

So true.
And all the peevish comments he keeps making about many European leaders including Starmer are unprofessional and childish. He sounds like a wagon losing its wheels atm not a president of a super power and certainly not like an ally.

What do you mean by this?
Nato is a defensive alliance and always has been.
I think it's obvious trump expected Iran to roll over in the same way as Venezuela. Hes being fed the 'success' by Hesgeth etc in the form of made up films. He is out of his depth, has been from the start, and others are pulling the strings. As is usual for him, he blames others rather than himself.

fancythat Tue 31-Mar-26 14:14:36

The funding that the US puts into NATO all the time.
I have mentioned it on other threads.
Some posters wont be too keen for me to mention it again!

And if you are on n&p, there is thread after thread, post after post, of how we can manage without the US.
I even started a thread about it - cant remember exact name. It will be about 5 threads down on the n&p forum.

LemonJam Tue 31-Mar-26 14:15:35

Trump's position, words, goals and threats in relation to Iran have changed on an almost daily basis over the past month.

I doubt for a second any country will take him at his "current word" and just go and take what oil they want.

Hesgeth also issued a statement saying this war will end only on US terms- on that basis they are not even close....

Grandmabatty Tue 31-Mar-26 14:21:09

But that doesn't really address your point that nato should be grateful. All the countries involved in nato contribute financially. That's been made clear. What was also made clear is that Nato is a defensive organisation. It does not support countries who attack. So are you saying we should all be grateful to USA for being part of this and should support them by sending our young people to take part in a war ethics we didn't start?
Nato supported USA wholesale when the Twin Towers fell. Trump appears to have forgotten that when he was busy crowing at the time that Trump Towers would be the tallest building in NY.

Grandmabatty Tue 31-Mar-26 14:21:39

Ethics should not be there!

You’re right Grandmabatty as far as Trump is concerned ethics are most definitely not there. 🤣

The Americans came into WW1 pretty damn late and only joined WW2 - also late - because of Pearl Harbour.

And contrary to what Mister Trump chooses to believe, John Wayne did not win the war single-handed although that's the narrative pumped out by Hollywood in several of his second-rate films.

Wayne also managed to avoid military service, so patriotic was he......

Next step Trump stops the US oil supply to the UK

AGAA4 Tue 31-Mar-26 14:48:09

We should not be grateful to the US. If you listen to Trump then I suppose you would reach that conclusion but I think most of us know he lies.
To Trump and Hegseth Pope Leo has a message. 'God doesn't listen to the prayers of those who wage war'.
Both of them are supposed Christians.
I think they have broken most of the commandments.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 31-Mar-26 14:50:56

This was, of course, a predictable outcome of Mr Trump's behaviours. The rest of the West will be left to shovel this gentleman's ...um..excrement.
The alternative is for him to acknowledge that he's made an error (unlikely) or send many of his military to die ( likely to be unpopular).
Mr Hegseth is keen on the second strategy, but even the POTUS can see that dead soldiers are not a sign of winning.

I have answered all those points on various threads.

I did think about starting a thread with all my points.
But that might not be popular!

Not sure what to do now.

Yes.

I have said that elsewhere.

He could help Russia/Iran, anyone he wants.

If he is not a freind to the Uk, is he an enemy?

How far do we want to go with all of this?
Finanical considerations. Not to mention, do we want our own dead grandkids, men and women?
And how many?

A lot of poeple seem to want to take it far.
But they are the ones that have spoken.
What about those who havent?
Are they a [often] silent, majority?
As we often see when it comes to the actual polling day.
