US troops forced to act on the ground?

A drop in the ocean in the great schemes of things....but replicated by how many more

So the latest from Trump is that the UK and other European countries should go to the Straits of Hormuz and fight for their own oil because he isn’t going to help them anymore if they don’t help him.
So a quick translation of Trump speak for yourself -
I started an illegal war and don’t know how to get out of it so am blaming everyone else and expecting them to clean up the mess I made.’

I am glad that the Pope has come as close to speaking out against Trump as he is allowed to.
I'm sorry, but that made me laugh and wonder who, on earth, could be telling the Pope what he can and can't do..
Of course, he is no doubt guided by God...

We can't stop now, the Iranian people need their freedom too many have died to stop now. They aren't religious they don't want to be Muslim, can't believe it taken this long to get rid of the brutal regime. They are asking and thanking Trump for help.
I’ve read and listened to a lot of people reporting directly from Iran. Some brave souls are still getting info out of the country.
These people are reporting that for the majority who fought last year the fight in them has gone.
If there’s one evil thing that Trump has done is that he gave those people hope and then walked away 😥

What has Trump actually done to help? He’s damaged Iranian Infrastructure, killed a lot of those in power, but the regime hasn’t changed. As far as I can see looking at the protests and counter protests/mourners it looks a bit like the more passive divisions in the US! The Fundamental Iranian guard was always in charge…they are still there and there are thous@nds (millions?) of them . Trump went in for 2 things, he says, to stop nuclear enrichment ( which according to him he had wiped out with his bombing months ago!) and to seize their oil! Telling the Iranian people he would be coming to save them was a lie to ‘gain entry’! Nothing much has changed, and if he leaves soon as seems likely if he isn’t getting what he wants and the war is losing him votes, he will just have made the situation worse for the ordinary Iranians !

He doesn't understand NATO who act in defence not to attack other countries. He is a very ignorant man.
He has to get out of this war as he knows he is in trouble. He is not fit to be president on so many levels.
Maybe there ought to be a basic IQ, history & geography assessment for those standing for the highest office - one that can't be cirumvented by a paid proxy with a padded tummy and orange tan.
It will be extremely difficult for Trump to get out of NATO after having the USA had to agree to many sanctions when joining
It’s actually completely unbelievable that a few mad-men can actually cause such world-wide devastation, displacing so many citizens (yet more refugees no one will want to give a home), destabilising so many economies, murdering so many people.
It’s like some awful kind of Groundhog Day nightmare.
Just a few despot leaders, yet here we are, the rest of the world, waiting to see what happens next.
I have no answers, but a very small part of me says come on you other nations, get your SAS folk together and nuke the whole ruddy lot of ‘em! ( Trump et al, Netanyahu, Putin)

If he chooses to attack a NATO member next, he & his beloved country may have no choice in the matter?

Of course he could and might attack a NATO member but although he is talking about leaving NATO, it is not something he can do without the agreement of 2/3's of the Senate or Congress. Trump and his **se lickers might hate NATO but there are an awful lot of Americans who don't think the same way including elected members of the Republican Party or the Democratic Party. 2024 Legislation signed by Biden and rather ironically spearheaded by Rubio have at least ensured that Trump is restrained in this area.

It isnt to me.
Not once I could see that no one was really stopping Trump.
And I think it has not really even got going yet.
Well, there is the potential for far far more things yet.
As I said, not sure which thread, the Uk [let alone other countries] could look far different in even 6 months time.
Could anyone in America think he is sane? Still they kept Biden on with Akzeimers.

Well there he was on BBC News, being cheered at the Kennedy Center by an adoring crowd when he went to the opening night of Chicago. There were boos, apparently, but overwhelmingly it sounded like cheers.
We must remember, even though they speak a similar language, they are not British.
Toys and pram come to mind...only 3% or very little of our oil comes from ME!
He was the one bringing peace to the world, remember. Huh.
Unbelievable, yes but nobody actually believes it because Trump is so unpredictable, all we can hope is that the fighting is settled quickly.
He has assembled a large assault force, to be honest I would be surprised if he does not occupy one or more of the islands in the strait, despite declaring the war over.
Trump has said he will bomb Iran back to the stone age where it belongs.
This has been described as 'horrifying, vile and evil' by some Americans. Trump seems to be following Netanyahu's plan of razing a country to the ground and killing as many of its citizens as he can.
And now, Petra, he is vowing to reduce them “back to the stone ages, where they belong”.
That doddery old fool is despicable.
So yesterday he declared that having met the goals, the USA will soon pull out of the area - job done!
Be interested to hear what these goals are because
He hasn’t “saved” the Iranians from the tyrannical leadership.
He hasn’t got rid of the enriched uranium
He hasn’t achieved regime change
He hasn’t ensured that Hormuz is no longer dominated by a hostile regime.
He has however
Ensured that as a result of the severe hardship and suffering, the Iranian population will now hate America.
Entrenched the regime even further.
Ensured that the regime will go all out to produce a bomb pdq.
Educated the regime in understanding the power it has within the region and certainly by controlling The Straits.
This frankly has been worse than the world feared, as the only real achievement is world economic shock, the potential for terrorist attacks to have risen to severe, and untold needless deaths and suffering.

What is bothering me is, as David49 says on another thread, even the US cannot continue like it has been[expensive technology].
But, and I could be wrong[cue several posters jumping om me saying that], "boots on the ground" are so mcuh cheaper financially[hate even writing that[cue more words from people].
Trump could carry on the Iran war with boots on the ground for a very long time?
Not that he necessarily would.
I think memories of Vietnam still haunt the US.
But like everyone says, Trump changes his mind all the time.
This frankly has been worse than the world feared, ^
Most people are still totally underestimating things,
Almost totally.
Most people have nowhere near got their heads around he could switch sides to Putin. As a starter.
What for instance, if he fancies some assets that the Eastern Europeans have?
That is just an option off the top of my head[cue more jumping up and down from some posters].
Quite frankly, he has so much power, what could happen , even within 6 months, is mind boggling.
People saying[and I hear it in real life too], that Trump is mad, insane, whatever names, doesnt alter a thing.
Well, it makes them feel better.
The US citizens may be able, or choose, to do something.
I dont know.
I am likely not going to be on the forum much now until after Easter.
Even I dont feel very into Easter with what is going on.
But here we are. Holy Week.
So Happy Easter to all.
The Iran war cost the US almost $13 billion in the first week and 2 billion a day going forward.
Already unpopular with many in America if Trump sends in boots on the ground and young soldiers are coming back to their families in body bags or badly injured the tide could really turn on him.

Happy Easter, though we are not religious, we do respect those who are and I love Spring and all it brings.
We also love hot cross buns!
