A judge has halted construction on trumps 'most beautiful in the world' ballroom.

Wyllow3 Tue 31-Mar-26 21:29:28

Nice one!

Naturally it was to be

The finest Building of its kind anywhere in the World".

Just think of the amount of money for this vanity project, how it could have been spent on improving school or medical facilities.

Its being privately funded, or so is the claim, but it seems to be the donors are just glorifying themselves, (you can be sure there will be a plaque, and possibly rooms named after the millionaire donors)
and if they have that money to spare....

It will indeed be interesting to see what happens, at an appeal - wondering if the Supreme Court gets involved, where they would stand.... and indeed, how Congress would vote.

MaizieD Tue 31-Mar-26 22:07:40

Will he take any notice at all of this ruling?

Fallingstar Tue 31-Mar-26 22:12:44

Well, dictators love vanity projects. Usually tacky and overblown. I imagine the King will be horrified, he has quite well known views on people savaging historical buildings. Tbh I imagine the King will spend most of his visit feeling either horrified or extremely irritated.

If I remember a report correctly, the arsehole had several magnolia trees that had been planted in memorial to previous Presidents and Jackie Kennedy felled to make way for his no doubt gold and shiny monstrosity.
Ignorant man.

There need to be more rulings! Let's have the biggest, brightest most brilliant rulings ever! Millions of lovely rulings that he can take with him and stick on his walls in Mar a Lago... and leave the world alone...

Unlikely.

He'll arrange for the judge to be sacked, probably for being "un-American" and being a "fake judge" handing down "fake justice".

"Tacky and overblown" doesn't come close if it's anything like the Las Vegas Trump Casino. Now demolished, btw.

I imagine it being Mar-o-Lago 2.

Excellent thought, keepingquiet!

Oh, it must be so crushing for people in the US who loved the White House and its elegant historical design, the thoughtfulness and small changes made by previous presidents...to have it ripped down by someone who is just like Hitler and Mussolini, in that they had to build monumental architecture to imprint their presence forever.

Goodness knows what a psychiatrist would say (I daresay many are doing).

Last night they replayed Simon Schama's Richard 3rd in the History of Britain series,

and the similarities struck me: in the end he was removed by a group of powerful barons (think other powerful US oligarchy figures) because in the end he was acting against their interests.

The judge ruling is just a law formality and it might delay the project but not stop it because the ballroom was just going on top of a secure military installation which will be an improvement to the government office. I am sure it will get approved.

No amount of money could improve the US education system, unfortunately.

imaround Wed 01-Apr-26 16:09:52

He is sitting at the Supreme Court today while they are arguing Birthright Citizenship. The first time a sitting President has done so. The rest of them felt it was important to maintain the separation of powers. Guess he isn't concerned about that. angry

(I have a feeling this is a threat to those Justices. Intimidation, if you will)

Based on what I can see, it isn't going well for him.

He also signed an EO yesterday to take over elections nationwide. Which is not legal and he can't do that.

He seems desperate.

Actually, it's not.

He now has to get Congress and The National Planning Commission's approval to build. That will take some time.

That is not his house. He doesn't get to make changes without input.

I wish he was in the biggest best and most brilliant prison cell somewhere deep underground

One more before I get on with my day. May I present, Trump's Presidential Library.

If it's like planning here, there are powers to demolish where the building hasn't got the neccessary permissions. Which threat would stop any "ultra-secret" underground bunker uses going ahead, if they even exist except in Trump's head.

Maremia Wed 01-Apr-26 17:57:36

Thank you Rosie, this is a most welcome Thread to read.

Macaydia Fri 03-Apr-26 08:35:38

Every US president has made changes to the White House to suit their personal preferences. Most upgrades were not paid for with tax funds. An upgrade to the politicians' bunker is overdue. Putting a ballroom on top is a DT idea and being paid for by the CEOs of the top tech companies. Maybe it includes room reservations.

I dont care if the congress is not involved in this. I do care that the congress is not involved in the current war.

Construction continues. Killings continue.

Maremia Fri 03-Apr-26 12:01:34

And Pam Bondi has been sacked.
Wish that would be a warning to all who enable him.
You are expendable.
Trump has loyalty to no one.

JenniferEccles Fri 03-Apr-26 13:49:40

Out of interest I looked up to see if any other presidents had altered the White House and the answer is yes, virtually every one has, both structurally and internally.
They made changes according to their own personal taste, so Trump it appears is just following a tradition.

Details are online.
