Why is Israel bombing Lebanon?

Trump describes it as a skirmish. Are 4 million displaced people a skirmish?

Are there terrorists imbedded in every street, in every home?

It's utterly wrong.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 08-Apr-26 16:41:19

Shades of Gaza.

lixy Wed 08-Apr-26 16:44:26

Because Hezbollah continue to fire rockets into Northern Israel.

valdavi Wed 08-Apr-26 16:47:38

Israel is always preoccupied with their threatening neighbours. Can you think of any place worse in the world to have as a neighbouring country than Israel?
There are not terrorists in every home, even in the hezbollah areas.32-33% of the Lebanese population are Christian.

Hope this doesn't not destroy the 'truce'.

Yes, sadly this definitely has potential to destroy the current fragile ceasefire truce between Iran and US/Israel- see number one condition on Iran's list:

"The 10-point plan for the conditional ceasefire, according to Iran published at 00:20, according to an Iranian state broadcaster:
1)Complete cessation of the war on Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen
2) Complete and permanent cessation of the war on Iran with 3) no time limit
4) Ending all conflicts in the region in their entirety
5) Reopening the Strait of Hormuz
6) Establishing a protocol and conditions to ensure freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
7) Full payment of compensation for reconstruction costs to Iran
8) Full commitment to lifting sanctions on Iran
9) Release of Iranian funds and frozen assets held by the United States
10) Iran fully commits to not seeking possession of any nuclear weapons

Immediate ceasefire takes effect on all fronts immediately upon approval of the above conditions".

Iran has now stopped transit though the Strait of Hormuz because Israel continues to bomb Lebanon.

It was never going to work from the get go!

Israel and latterly Trump state Lebanon was not included in the ceasefire agreement, but Pakistan, (who brokered the deal), and Iran state it was part of the ceasefire agreement.

OP…. Because Lebanon is a hotbed of terrorism, Hezbollah tell the weak Lebanese government what to do, and they constantly fire missiles into Israel and have done for many years.

sixandahalf Wed 08-Apr-26 17:39:08

But the hot bed contains civilians. And the bombig will create another generation of terrorists.

Oreo Wed 08-Apr-26 17:50:37

So allow Hezbollah to proliferate and get stronger and do more damage and embed themselves even more? I think not.

Maremia Wed 08-Apr-26 17:53:47

So, some Posters approve of breaking the truce?

Hezbollah represent a significant minority in Lebanon, and they have some influence but they certainly do not 'Tell the Lebanese government what to do', any more than any minority party does in any state.

valdavi Wed 08-Apr-26 17:57:14

Tbh, if it wasn't for our traditional pro-USA, pro-Israeli bias, Israel could certainly be described as a hotbed of terrorism judging by the terror and misery they have illegally brought to many civilians who live in neighbouring states.'By their actions you shall judge them'

Smileless2012 Wed 08-Apr-26 17:59:23

Even if Israel had been 'at the table' and agreed to the cease fire they'd have broken it just as they did with Gaza.

Smileless2012 Wed 08-Apr-26 18:00:20

I agree valdavi.

Wyllow3 Wed 08-Apr-26 18:03:50

The current regime in Israel is hand in glove with Trump, this regime must have been included in discussions, surely?

Unfortunately if you lie down with dogs you get up with fleas.
Israel could finance Lebanon to rid them of Hezbollah but Lebanon is a failed state as far as corruption goes.

LemonJam Wed 08-Apr-26 18:31:44

Common sense informs the view the current fragile "truce'- conditional ceasefire will only work if Trump and Netanyahu continue negotiation/diplomacy efforts together, in agreement and Iran is negotiating with Trump and Netanyahu as an entity.

I do not have high hopes sadly. Plus Israel is not to be trusted when it comes to cease fire agreements as others have posted....

Maremia Wed 08-Apr-26 18:43:05

Actually petra, that is an idea. Especially if, as you suspect there is corruption.
Pay to get rid.

Well you’re wrong there as Hezbollah is already in the government and the gov is scared of them and can’t go against them.

So Israel is justified in killing Lebanese citizens who don't support Hezbollah, even though supporters are in a minority? Hmm ...

It doesn't really seem a good way to win people over to the Israeli cause and it certainly won't stamp out hatred towards people who destroy their country.

If I were a cynic, I'd think it's war for the sake of it. There are better ways of defending your country rather than ensuring that your closest neighbours hate you in perpetuity, especially when you have the support of the richest country on earth.

MayBee70 Wed 08-Apr-26 19:18:44

Israel have got away with what they have done ( and are still doing) to the Palestinians so they think that, with Trump on their side they can do whatever they like.

Vile.

paddyann54 Wed 08-Apr-26 20:00:51

Someone needs to stop Netanyahu and his vileIDF NOW
There will be no peace in the Middle East with Zionists in charge in Israel
As for Trump he thinks he’s John Wayne in every old war film in the past …sadly he thinks because he’s American he can do as he pleases….seems he can..nobody has the guts to stand up against him
