GB news made a loss of £42.5 million in 2024 but continues to be the mouthpiece of Reform. Owned mainly by Paul Marshall, who is a key financial supporter of Reform and the hedge fund "Legatum" based in Dubai, founded and owned by Christopher Chandler. Do have a look at CC, he's had a very interesting business life being a huge investor in Russia's Gazprom, the Russian state owned gas company and is said to have links to Russian intelligence (unproven), he also has bought huge amounts of property in Hong Kong since it transitioned to China. The question I ask myself is why does a NZ business man bankroll a media organisation that is focused on British politics, it's certainly not to make money?

Well, Farage is in the headlines of some newspapers this morning, he is to be investigated and if he really didn’t turn up yesterday for the Kings Speech, he’s an utter disgrace (some of us already knew this!)

The thing that worries me Graphite is that Farage’s supporters / admirers don’t give a sh** about his murky world, dealings & collaborations.

Many actually admire him for it!

We’ve already had comment on GN saying that, because we know Farage is a grifter, that’s OK … we know what we’re getting. He’s ‘honest’ about his ‘depravity’ so, no problem!!!

I believe many people feel like this … sadly!

Our ring-wing dominated media give him an easy ride because they believe he stands for their interests but when it comes right down to it, the only person who will ever matter to a narcissist like Farage is Farage.

While the whole UkiP/Brexit/Reform vehicle and the people involved in it are loathsome, I was struck by something Catherine Blaiklock tweeted yesterday:

The main things I learnt working with @Nigel_Farage

1. His word is not his bond.
2. He does not write emails - no paper trail.
3. He has zero ability to do any detail: 1-hour meetings turn into 56 minutes of Nigel talking about Nigel and 4 mins on the subject the meeting was about.
4. Nigel has no real friends - everyone and everything is expendable.
5. Nigel has enormous energy, but a lot of it is wasted because he drinks and parties too much.
6. Nigel is not an intellectual.
7. Nigel has spies.
8. Nigel loves money and spends it like water.
9. Nigel surrounds himself with rather facile young men like the convicted posh George [Cottrell].
10. Nigel does not really like working if it is not him being a showman - I cannot even imagine him reading a policy paper.
11. Nigel dictates tweets [to someone else].
12. Nigel has a powerful lawyer behind the scenes who keeps files on people.
13. Nigel is vicious - the plastic sheen is a facade that cons so many people.
14. No idea if Nigel actually has any morality or values or what he believes in except fame and money.

So much of this this reminds me of that Max Hastings wrote about Johnson, saying that he was totally unfit to be PM - and how right he was.

And so the key to this game is failure. Johnson does not set out to fail per se. Rather, failure is just another route to winning. He fails to prove the failure won’t hurt him. He sabotages things because he can.

This thinking sounds perverse because it is. It must be understood within the framework, not of governing, but of a game with one necessary victor. Success, stability and predictability are boring. Why not see how far you can push the people who support you? If you can still win with the most danger, the most excitement, inflicting the most damage, why not try?

With Farage, it is all sounding dangerously familiar and people are falling for it all over again.

Be it on their own heads. Those who voted for Reform will get that man you described Graphite. I just hope the rest of us don't have to suffer him in the future.

So far Farage has proved adept at avoiding any accountability, from questions about the failure of Brexit to the recent suggestion of corruption.

He recently withdrew from a meeting in Sunderland where he insisted (quite illegally) that all questions from the press were entered in to be approved.

One day he will be tackled, I look forward to it.

It is indeed frightening, as once in control we will all suffer. Unfortunately, I think those who admire him will suffer most.

If the purchase of the property concluded in May 2024- not sure how that fits with the Guardian's claim that Farage received the sum "within weeks of standing for the GE in July 2024.

What we do know is, that whatever date in 2024, if before 3 June 2024, Farage received this £5million sum, he was NOT in front line politics. Since 2021 he had been a TV and radio broadcaster, notably for GB news and LBC as he stepped back from front line politics in 2021.

On 23 May 2024, (after the house purchase concluded?) Farage publicly stated he would NOT stand for Reform in the forthcoming UK GE, just hours before the Reform leader, Richard Tice, announced the Reform GE campaign. Farage said he wanted to be free to support Trump's campaign in the US. This Farage is still NOT in UK front line politics as at 23 May 2024.

The investigation will no doubt establish the date Harborne gave Farage £5 million pounds, as alleged between 23 May and 3 June 2024. The Guardian infers it was given between these dates.

Farage, allegedly after receiving the £5million sum, then did a double take and assumed office as Leader of Reform UK on 3 June 2024 and Richard Tice stepped down( was kicked out?) from his Reform leadership role. Lo and behold, on the same day Farage announced he would be standing for election as MP for Clacton.

Farage then became an MP for Clacton on 4 July 2024. He is required to declare all donations, payments etc for the period 5 July 2023 to 4 July 2024. The rules are quite clear I doubt about personal gift payments these must also be declared. At this stage he also became eligible for stage funded security in line with all MPs and Party leaders.

May 2026, 2 years later Frage is found out not to have declared the £5 million payment he admits he received fromm Harborne. He states it was an "unconditional, one off, non political, personal gift, to pay for his personal security after he was reportedly denied state- funded protection. If personal non political there is no reason for the state to funded his personal security at the time the sum was received, so the excuse does not stack up.

All will become clear- hopefully.

Farage's latest explanation for the £5 million gift was that it was a reward for his long-term (27 years) campaigning for Brexit.
