Just seen in the news that the Met re deploying 4,000 extra police officers in London tomorrow, including armoured vehicles on standby.

If they are that concerned why haven’t they taken action to stop these marches or made them into standing rally’s in contained areas?

Our beautiful capital city once more rendered a no go zone.

Added into the mix it’s also the F A Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

All in the week when London has been named the number one city in the world for culture 🤦‍♀️

Lizziedrip's post regarded men dressing up as Muslim women to mock women Muslims as a whole group - I honestly couldn't see how your post related to that.

Of course all agree with the Afghanistan situation

but if we dont hear of all the different ways Muslim women (or Sikh women, or Christian women, or Buddhist women, for that matter)

...can be, then people will conflate and generalise.

sixandahalf Mon 18-May-26 19:17:19

I am seriously stunned by some footage I have just seen. People dressed in burqas, removing them infront of a baying mob of flag wavers.

How can anybody possibly think this is alright?

LizzieDrip Mon 18-May-26 19:48:37

GG if you’ve watched the video from the rally and you think it’s acceptable, that’s up to you.

I think it’s disgusting, both to Muslims AND women. Islamophobia and misogyny in one - Yaxley-Lennon must be so proud!

Wyllow it’s actually women dressed as Muslim women.

It’s so offensive!

Maremia Mon 18-May-26 20:12:37

Yes, and it was part of the so called 'entertainment'.

Where have I said it’s acceptable?

In bad test, definitely.

Not comparable to what happens to women around the world at the hands of predominantly Muslim men, keeping women in their place which I think it’s abhorrent in the 21st century.

It's disgraceful behaviour. Those who follow Yaxley-Lennon on these marches are as bad as he is as are those who approve of his marches.

JaneJudge Mon 18-May-26 20:27:53

I don’t follow him, I just bump into him occasionally
I wouldn’t notice him really as he’s so very small

I do not approve of his marches, then again I do not approve of the pro-Palestine, or the ludicrous save the planet ones.

I do however believe in a modern democracy if people want to march they have the right to do so.

LizzieDrip Mon 18-May-26 20:36:14

GG … in ‘bad taste’? Well, if that’s your view🤷‍♀️

I consider it to be inciting hate towards Muslim women, so hardly helping the plight of oppressed women in Afghanistan.

Also, this thread is about the Yaxley-Lennon rally, not about the abhorrent treatment of women in Afghanistan.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 18-May-26 20:37:29

The save the planet mob haven’t worked out that causing damage will not get people on their side.

Which is why I think they are ludicrous.

You posted about dehumanising women

I happen to think that there are far worse things happening to women around the world today, yesterday and tomorrow.

Wyllow3 Mon 18-May-26 20:42:40

It's even worse when mock other women. Disgusted.

GG, Men try to control women in many societies, haven't most of us as women experienced that in our own lifetimes? Have you never been bullied, assulted, taunted?

Atm it.s happening in very obvious ways in the USA.

Of course I dont support what happens in the worse of Muslim societies, but its happened historically in many. Not all. Rape in marriage wasn't changed in the UK until 1989 (Scotland) and 1991 (England and Wales). A woman died in Northern Ireland in 2012 becuase she was forbidden an abortion.

Africa is interesting, there are both patriarchal and matriarchal societies and its nothing to do with a Muslim tradition, tho it is in some.

For example: (AI summary of what I know from a personal testimony)

"Christian women in Eritrea do not have control over their lives; they face severe restrictions dictated by a highly authoritarian state and patriarchal cultural norms.

Rather than having autonomy, their daily lives, freedom, and movements are heavily controlled by male-dominated authority, deeply compounded by severe government-driven human rights abuses"

(I know a cleaner at my gym who managed to escape the husband and got to the UK). FGM is part of a Christian as well as other traditions.

The practice of Sati fortunately in India has now largely died out and made a crime.

what I'm saying is: it happens all over the world, in different cultures but some societies at this point in history practice it at an appalling level as in Afghanistan.

But it's not ALL muslim societies not ALL Muslims. Egypt is in a process of change, as are the Muslim women that I know personally in the UK, where there is radical change.

So do I, but this thread is about what happened at the Yaxley-Lennon rally on Saturday.

Being pedantic, ^this thread is actually about, the Unite the Kingdom and pro-Palestine marches along with the F A Cup
Final all on the same day.

The amount of extra police officers needed, and our capital city once again becoming a no go zone

LizzieDrip Mon 18-May-26 20:59:54

Muslim women were only mocked in front of baying racists at one of those three events.

Maremia Mon 18-May-26 21:01:43

Yes, and not about how women are treated worldwide.
For anyone concerned about the treatment of women, anywhere, Stephen Yaxley Lennon is not the solution.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 18-May-26 21:17:10

Muslim women were only mocked in front of baying racists at one of those three events.

How about the treatment of Jewish women…

LizzieDrip Mon 18-May-26 21:27:58

I haven’t heard of Jewish women being publicly mocked at any of Saturday’s three events, so I can’t comment.

However, if they were, then I’d be equally disgusted. Why would I think any differently?

I happen to think that any woman being mocked, belittled and used in front of a baying crowd is utterly disgraceful.

Oreo yes 👏👏👏

I have been saying the same for months, if not the last couple of years, an on posts on GN

To sneer at people expressing their views, and then ignore them don’t be surprised when Nigel Farage or even Polanski has the sway in parliament or worse case scenario the keys to No.10…

I do not believe that even one person is sneering at anyone, not anyone on here nor anyone on those marches.

Some of us simply don’t believe that anyone who doesn’t follow the ethos of those organising Unite the Nation (whatever that even means) would march alongside them.

I, for one, am far more fearful of Farage, Lowe, YL and their chums than is ever be of Muslims/Jews/Sikhs or Asylum Seekers.

Cossy Mon 18-May-26 21:39:22

Oreo

Before the 1990’s only small scale gatherings would have been the norm, involving Palestinians but they have grown to contain CND, Muslims not from the Middle East, the far left , Unions and many others.

Really, you cannot have it both ways, first of all it’s fine for all and any groups to join YL’s march, because apparently no one is listening to their fears and are sneering at them, but now other groups shouldn’t be allowed to join the pro-Palestine marches?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 18-May-26 21:45:33

Cossy I am not a Tommy Robinson supporter, no way.

I am just trying to understand why people do follow him.

My feelings are they feel unheard and totally misrepresented by politicians.

Cossy Mon 18-May-26 21:45:41

But I do agree GG13, if that's your meaning, that chanting hatred, whoever it is, should be legally challenged.

It should and I’m guessing that’s why arrests happened in both groups, as it should do.

I’m not for one moment suggesting that you are and I completely accept that people living in our country are disenchanted with our govt, feel “left” out and want better for themselves and their families.

But what I cannot fathom, and despite asking several times, nobody seems to be able to explain what their fears are for our country and themselves?

Maybe they follow him because they want to rid the country of all Muslims, which is what he always claims is his mission. No need to look for any other reason.
