Just seen in the news that the Met re deploying 4,000 extra police officers in London tomorrow, including armoured vehicles on standby.

If they are that concerned why haven’t they taken action to stop these marches or made them into standing rally’s in contained areas?

Our beautiful capital city once more rendered a no go zone.

Added into the mix it’s also the F A Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

All in the week when London has been named the number one city in the world for culture 🤦‍♀️

I wonder why it has to be compared to the noting hill carnival

there is a proportion of organised crime at large scale events including county lines/knife crime.

Also, the number of people attending the Carnival is in the millions, 2 million over 2 days, not a few thousand.

We went through all this last year after the first Yaxley Lennon march. It's percentages that are significant, not numbers. zzzz...

That sounds like a s**t stirring comment to me sixandahalf
Actually numbers do matter as in it shows strength of feeling about a matter.

Of course numbers matter. To think otherwise would be naïve.

I expect the Government is taking note and their advisers and analysts are working out why and how to calm what is growing unrest in the country.

This doesn't mean that people, marchers, are Yaxley-Lennon supporters, it means they are dissatisfied with the status quo.

Hmm ... I really can't understand why anybody would associate themselves with the march if they weren't supportive if Yaxley-Lennon's methods of solving the dissatisfaction.

PS. I'm not very satisfied with the way things are going in the country, but I wouldn't go on that match - ever!

Allira Sun 17-May-26 12:00:04

Well, me neither but I can understand how other people might think even if I don't agree.

Perhaps some cannot, who knows.

Thank you NotSpaghetti, for posting the Led By Donkeys video that was shown beside the Unite march.

Maremia Sun 17-May-26 12:23:51

Posters, you may view it, if you wish, on page 7 of this Thread, at 08.03.

Maremia Sun 17-May-26 12:25:40

By watching for yourself the reaction of the marchers, you may see just how racist those marchers are.

Sorry, but I don’t believe everything I see on the internet - too much fake news, AI generated nonsense. Especially when it’s put out by organizations who have agendas.

I haven't seen the news- was there actually any trouble?

I still haven't heard that there was any trouble?

People who attended the demo say the MSM massively underestimated the number of people attending.

The Met Police say 150,000 marched for Unite the Kingdom and 5,000 for the counter protest. They also said the march passed “largely without significant incident”. They say there were 31 arrests. Pretty good result then. I am sure if there was any major stuff like violence it would have made headline news.

As a matter of interest, how would those attending know? I doubt very much that they were in any position to count how many people were there.

The police chose an officer to count them all!

Seriously, exact numbers can never be known but trust me the security services have ways of estimating roughly how many people were there.

The fact that there was only low level disruption shows what a good job the police did, but also how these things can be blown up out of all proportion to the impact they have.

You can’t not believe or dispute photographs of British citizens who were originally immigrants winning medals and being celebrated in public in the UK for their achievements. That’s what the Led By Donkeys screen showed.

Why does it matter how many people attended?

It's almost as if some posters are sympathetic. Surely not.

Maybe you should ask Casdon on Page 6 @ 22.02 who first mentioned numbers. Clearly numbers matter to her.

JaneJudge Sun 17-May-26 13:22:45

I bet little Stephen doesn't have a flag outside his house

I always want to see and talk about facts rather than personal views. Numbers do matter to me for marches, because they are an indicator of how popular the cause is, is that wrong in some way?

Here is the breakdown of arrests, hot off the press.
news.sky.com/story/police-share-breakdown-of-43-arrests-made-during-two-rival-london-protests-13544988

twaddle Sun 17-May-26 13:53:10

"Between 15,000 and 20,000 people attended the pro-Palestine event, while some 60,000 people are estimated to have joined Tommy Robinson's march, the Met said." (according to Sky)

That's about 75,000-80,000 people.

Meanwhile, there were 22 arrests at the cup final. Wembley has a capacity of 90,000, so there were just over twice as many non-cup final arrests per head of those attending.

Well, now we know. Why did we want to know?

I think they use drone/helicopter footage. They know how many people will fill certain areas and they can make a fairly accurate guess. They don't do it on the ground by counting people and somebody in the crowd wouldn't know.

Maremia Sun 17-May-26 13:55:19

Why would Stephen have a flag outside his house in SPAIN?

Maremia Sun 17-May-26 13:58:37

Let's all be Patriots and join a march dissing our lovely country, led by a man who lives in SPAIN?

Maremia Sun 17-May-26 13:59:58

He is such a Patriot, he can't even commit to Britain.

Both cause organisers inflated their numbers, because it is important to them how many attend as a sign of the popularity of their cause. Both causes had less than half the number of marchers than for their marches last year, as I mentioned earlier. I believe that is significant.

JaneJudge Sun 17-May-26 14:01:18

he doesn't live in Spain, certainly not full time anyway

Are there any outstanding charges against him? If so, I don't understand why he wasn't arrested as soon as he arrived here.

Maremia Sun 17-May-26 14:15:59

He has committed crimes, and has served terms in prison.
Who would follow a man like that?
