Childhood influences?

What on earth was it which influenced this girl to turn into a neo-Nazi? I really don't understand how a 19 year old can have so much hatred.

Would that be true of all the people who seem to dislike foreigners? Have they all had dysfunctional backgrounds and are they all vulnerable?

For one reason or other, I've known a number of people with extremely dysfunctional backgrounds and I can honestly say they haven't turned to having murderous, neo-Nazi thoughts.

To be honest, I find the link between a dysfunctional background and neo-Nazi tendencies a bit simplistic.

I have to agree.

I worked with chaotic and highly dis functional families and also went to school in a place that was very mixed in terms of finances and deprivation. None of the lovely girls I attended school have turned out to be neo Nazis (as far as I know), despite their dysfunctional
backgrounds

It's so obvious that it could be a very disturbed person mentally, there will have been an assessment. there has to be a disturbed mind in there somewhere, surely?

I'm picturing someone filled with rage for personal reasons (what ever they be)

who latches onto one of those "has all the answers" SM causes.

In her head the need for Power?

"things will be better in our society/I will feel better in myself by just getting rid of "all the enemy".

One report mentioned her mental health assessment. She has nothing which would be taken into account by any court. I found a number of reports about her homelessness. Her parents were unemployed and she was homeless for three years, living in various hotels. Nevertheless, the reports and pictures show a loving family. The relationship itself doesn't appear to have been dysfunctional. She didn't attend school for a number of years and there's no mention of social services involvement. Bristol City Council undoubtedly has some questions to answer. It's already been fined for its mishandling of their homelessness claim.

Nevertheless, there is no obvious reason why she should have directed her hatred towards Jews and Muslims. She must have been influenced by online sources. As you say, Wyllow, it's possible she latched on to one of the "has all the answers" sites. Her involvement with Patriotic Alternative would suggest that. I really wish I knew what could be done to alert people about these sites and people.

Here's another one:

There is no hint of a dysfunctional childhood, so where is the influence coming from?

This example very much shows 'dysfunction', a teen isolating in his bedroom , accessing all manner of vile and violent content.
In what culture/counrty/history has this ever been seen as a way to allow a child to develop?
Across all continents and beliefs youngsters have up until now mixed with others, had community & fun or worked.
The effect on the developing brain from constantly veiwing violent rants and disgusting content in isolation is surely going to affect the dopamine, seratoin etc and therefore alter the personality.
I think your example actually proves the point I was making. Pretty dyfunctional to let a child develop this behaviour, whatever the demography of the family in my opinion.

keepcalm, It's been informative finding out the bigger picture. The family can actually be Googled. I agree with you that the young woman's childhood has been disrupted and I'm not going to argue about dysfunctional. She did, at least, appear to have had supportive parents, which many children from dysfunctional families don't have. It's not an excuse.

Whatever the background, she was obviously vulnerable. She didn't attend school from the age of 14, although the reason for that isn't clear. By that time, the family did have secure housing and she could have attended school. I would hope that the local authority was involved if she was being home-schooled.

I guess my point is that the hatred of Jews and Muslims didn't come out of nowhere. She must have had access via social media, possibly while still under 16. Given the issues highlighted with the "Adolescence" film (and other examples), I hope the issue of teenage access to the internet is looked at yet again.

Not only that, but there needs to be a review of local authority and parental involvement. That could be said of a number of killers/attackers who have been in the news over the last year or so.

When I was working I drew attention to statutary services about a young man who was in danger of being radicalised by the far right. I was laughed at.
It is always the same- leave these kids alone until they do something really bad and then hold a serious case review. I wish I could believe it may ever change...
