It upsets me to see the flag of my country despoiled in this way. Makes me think of the BNP and football hooligans.

I read about this crime last week and wasn’t surprised by the person accused! How interesting that it has not been headline news has it? You know, not plastered all over the front pages or on GB news ?? I wonder why not??

Having seen the play “ Punch” this crime resonates with me somewhat ! I am beginning to despair at the behaviour of certain elements of our society egged on by the likes of Tommy Robinson( not his real name) Reform and Restore !
They do not represent me or mine or my community !

A pub landlord on Facebook ( who had to remain anonymous for his own safety) said how much fear he was in from people like this.

How awful for the poor victim and his family.

It was, sadly, inevitable that someone who die by the hands of these awful bully boys.

Here we are this Sunday in our peaceful lodge in St Osyth, but to get here we had to drive through two villages emblazoned with tarry, torn flags at half mast on every other lamp post.

We are in the middle of Farage territory.

When are people going to wake up and understand Reform and Restore are not our friends, heroes or saviours?

Don't you think that it's our present circumstances that has brought such political parties to the fore front, I can see why people feel threatened by the so called boat people etc, that feel its their right to come here for an easy life of benefits and not contribute to the British society and in some instances don't even learn to speak our language.
What about the largely South Asian men plying our children with alcohol and drugs so that they can be passed around and repeatedly raped, I do not condone violence at all, there is ways and means to deal with these problems but enough is enough !!

I don't understand who you mean when you accuse people of blaming others. That's exactly what "Tommy and Nigel" and their followers always do. I do know the people who painted over the few flags which appeared on mini-roundabouts in my town. If I'd known they were doing it, I would have helped.

Of course scenarios like the ones you mention have been exploited by people with a racist agenda. Certain people have been scapegoated and efforts made to put the fear of God in some people. That's what has happened throughout history.

My daughter lives in Beeston Nottingham and she has a great high street at the bottom of her road. Our curry was the city of culture last year and has benefitted from the positive vibes.
My little town is holding a volunteers’ fair this week where I am proud to help out and maybe sign up for some more volunteering,
Our Saturday Park Run has over 500 participants on a regular basis. Everybody encourages you from the fastest runner to the little old walkers like my friend and I. Our community choir is thriving in four different towns and caters for all ages, abilities and is fully inclusive. My walking netball group has 35 registered members who play on a regular basis.
Does all of this sound like a “ broken” Britain.? No! Of course it doesn’t !

I've just been watching part of the victory parade for Arsenal in North London. As far as I know, there were no incidents or arrests. It was heartening to see people of all sorts of ethnicities celebrating together.

Like Susieq62, my community isn't "finished" either. There are loads of communal events planned for this summer.

Just last week The Guardian (26th) published an item using figures obtained through the Freedom of Information Act revealing that 21% or 949 persons involved in the 2024 riots (sparked off by the murder of the three girls in Southport) had since been reported to police for Domestic Violence activities.

These are men who claim to be patriotically protecting "our women and girls".

Whatever happened to "More in Common"?

Maybe it needs to be resurrected and events like communal picnics, fairs and music events need to be organised and advertised. The emphasis would be on inclusion and people of all ages and ethnicities enjoying themselves.

I'm not happy with them. A few months ago, I had to go to a town where they were flying from nearly every lamp post and I felt intimidated because I know the values of the people who hung them.

In the recent local elections, this town surprisingly didn't return any Reform councillors (which is against the general trend for the council). The online letters section of the local newspaper was full of posts demanding that the new (Conservative) council take down the flags now that it's been shown that Reform isn't a threat. People were frightened of the bully boys who hung them.

How do you know that people aren’t bothered by the flags? Unfortunately my main local supermarket is in a flag flying area. If I could go to one without them I would. And I loathe having to drive past them to visit my son.
