Sympathy for Harry anyone?

Is there anyone left who has any sympathy for H&M after the recent pantomime? I’ve been in the ‘against’ camp since the birth of Archie when they deliberately misled the press and public with delayed announcements and made it clear they were doing things their way. Since then….well. I have a close friend who still thinks the sun shines out of Harry’s backside, he’s had a terrible upbringing and life, he should get an apology….I’m avoiding contact with her this week as I know she’ll have another excuse about him.

Typo - if I’d been raised

I feel for them as I would anyone having a hard time. Just being very rich and, in his case being in the public gaze most of your adult life, doesn't necessarily make you happy. They probably do their best, as do most parents and so does his father. Never forget they've been through the trauma of being sent away to public school. I do think it's mean not giving them protection as he's a target for sure, and by extension his young children as well. I'm sad the latest press case as amongst those who lost is Doreen Lawrence, who probably can't easily afford it.

No.

I'm not sure they suffered thw trauma of going away to public school. They went to Eaton and by their own accounts enjoyed themselves immensely

I agree with your friend OP. I seem to be one of the few people who actually LIKE Harry and Meghan.

I totally agree. There is too much bile thrown about by the British press
.

Not one iota.

He has made a good few bob over the last few years sueing Newspapers and living off the Windsor brand with Meggy and the kids

He was entitled to a court case ,and had a right to do. This particular gravy train seems to have now come to an end.

Is it possible to revoke his British Citizenship and line of succession? Probably not when your daddy is the King.

Yes I do feel quite sorry for him I think he’s grown up in an unenviable position, It’s well documented that the ‘Spare’ always has a difficult time and often doesn’t perform as expected (look no further than Margaret)
I think there has been a lot of nastiness in the right wing press picking up on every single thing down to practically the way he breathes This has got more marked with marrying Meghan and having the children. You only have to look at remarks on here
I think Charles and the rather saintly William have joined forces so he feels even less welcome and more pushed out
I don t think I d even bother coming over if it was me

I couldn’t agree more.

I have read ‘The Palace Papers’ by Tina Brown. I strongly believe Harry’s account of the appalling press intrusion into his life. I also believe he was sold down the river by his father in order to render Camilla acceptable to the public, who initially blamed her for Diana’s sad life, but now accept her as queen. . Nor can I expunge the memory of him as a bereaved and traumatised 12 year old boy being made to walk behind his mother’s coffin in front of the world’s ogling millions. He observed his mother being hounded to her death by the paparazzi and did what needed doing to prevent the same thing happening to his wife.

He wasn't forced "to walk behind his mother’s coffin in front of the world’s ogling millions." Both boys were asked whether they wanted to walk behind their mother's coffin. They could have declined. William said he would, so Harry said so too - not wanting to be outdone by his brother. They were not alone, their grandfather walked with them as support. Do you really think that William did not find it as painfiul as Harry? But he felt it as a tribute to his mother, while Harry still feels that it was imposed on him by his father - and somehow blames his brother too.

Harry's wife would not have been "hounded by the paparazzi" if she hadn't started her relationship with his parents by stating that she was "going in with all guns blazing" and feeding the media with stories of how dreadful her inlaws were. Of course the media was keen to get more of this sensational customer-attracting material about inlaw tension in high places!

Harry needs to grow up and take charge of his own career as an adult, instead of repeatedly recycling his sufferings as a victim of his privileged upbringing. The ex-servicemen in his own Invictus Games Foundation could tell worse tales. He would do well to remember the ending of the famous poem "Invictus", by By William Ernest Henley ^

" I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul."^

Actually I was interested enough in “the well documented “ claim that the “Spare always has a difficult time” to do a bit of research into the ‘Spares” of the past.

Going much further back than Margaret what I found was that past Spares were accepting of their place in the succession and successful in their own right.

Surprisingly several of them did eventually become King.

Personally I think you have to go all the way back to Henry the Eighth to find a similarly envious and discontented “Spare”.

So actually it’s not at all “well documented “. The evidence points otherwise.

Not the position, the personality.

It would appear that supporters of Harry tend to get their facts wrong and also tend to idolise Diana.

MissAdventure Thu 09-Jul-26 19:12:08

It would appear that supporters of the royals believe they are psychic; getting all het up about scenes they've no idea about.

Lathyrus3 Thu 09-Jul-26 19:19:50

I like facts.

That’s why I did a bit of research.

Applegran Thu 09-Jul-26 19:20:22

I do not really want to condemn him or the rest of the family.

Lallylou Thu 09-Jul-26 19:27:20

Those dear boys walked behind their mother's coffin. Silently and bravely.
Their mother adored her son's. Both equally.

King Charles should behave in a kindly manner towards his youngest son. He should behave with dignity and respect the woman he loves and who he married. The gutter press are despicable too but what does one expect. Bless their little grandchildren. Our late Queen loved Harry too. Megan did not realise for sure that it's very English to not use another relatives pet nickname or childhood name. Be kind to him and the little family he has created. Remember the Americans are just different from the Brits.

On any estrangement threads there are always really sad accounts . This is just another one.
Would either side of the estrangement really want the publicity that this topic engenders?
If you walked out, saying you wanted out of the family business, then publicised all your family’s personal disputes, would you truly expect to be welcomed back?

Izzipop Thu 09-Jul-26 19:42:51

Why hasn’t Meghans father seen his grandchildren
Why hasn’t M and H visited him as he has been very ill Afterall we r led to believe they had a wonderful relationship when he brought her up. Infact he paid for her to go to an exclusive school. Some thanks she has given him. So it’s of no surprise that H has done the same and copied her

Izzipop Thu 09-Jul-26 19:43:24

Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, severely strained his relationship with her by cooperating with tabloid media to stage paparazzi photos of his wedding preparations and repeatedly selling personal stories, letters, and interviews about her to the press against her specific wishes.

Nanacool Thu 09-Jul-26 21:11:47

Considering it was the Mail who was the main instigator in bringing her son's killers to justice I think she was misguided to say the least, in joining Harry, allegedly, when he contacted her to join him

valdali Thu 09-Jul-26 21:24:05

I can understand them not wanting to see Thomas Markle.

I like both Harry and William, I don't think William's saintly ie goody-goody, he's a bit earnest but that's not surprising given his role.

I hope it's Charles(no doubt at the behest of Palace staffers) who is dragging his feet on a reconcilliation, I'd like to think William would want his father and brother to see each other, but what do we know?

BrandyGran Thu 09-Jul-26 21:24:38

The king’s visit to USA was called “soft power”. It was very successful.
If Harry could sort out his security arrangements ie pay for extra protection himself, and bring his two little children , we would all fall in love with them ! Soft power would work again.

merlotgran Thu 09-Jul-26 21:40:29

It’s not that simple. Harry has already said he would pay for his own security but unlike in the USA, they would not be allowed to carry guns in the UK. Armed protection is only carried out by authorised police officers and you can’t just hire them.

JennyCee Thu 09-Jul-26 22:19:12

What damage was done to him with his mother”s funeral?
a child having to walk very near her coffin in view of the whole country. couldn’t have done that child any good whatsoever.
