So says Nadine Dorries who did hand back her severance pay of approx £17,000 whilst AR is refusing to give hers back. ND was given hers by mistake as those over 65 are not entitled to it but she did give it back.
This has been covered in all the papers and TV channels and I have yet to hear anybody say AR deserves to keep it.

Well said, Doodledog. I may have no time for AR's politics, but I think I know a witch hunt when I see one.

My problem with her is that she is under qualified for the position she holds. What experience does she have to be Housing Minister, twice she has been under investigation for ( you couldn't make it up) housing discrepancies.
Saying she's underqualified is just an opinion.
Saying she was investigated is true.
Suggesting those investigations found wrongdoing isn't. They were closed with no charges and no tax liability.
It might just be worth what makes a statement libellous. In England and Wales, for a libel claim, a claimant generally has to show that:
The statement was published to a third party.
It identified them.
It was defamatory.
It has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm to their reputation.
If someone repeatedly states as fact that:
"The investigations found wrongdoing."
when the investigations actually concluded with no charges, no prosecution, and no tax liability, then that statement is likely to be false. Falsely asserting that someone was officially found guilty of wrongdoing is the sort of statement that could be defamatory because it tends to lower their reputation. I don't think anyone will do anything about it but do you really want to put yourself in that situation?

I don't think it's nonsense in the real world (private sector) would you get a top job if you didn't have any experience, I don't think so.
No wonder the country is in such a state of decline.
What a very moving and apposite last paragraph there, Maizie. it's quite simple as regards the wooden spoon: it's entirely relevant to look at the discussion on the trouser suits in that light.
A heck of a lot happened in there, and some of it is being repeated - showing exactly what Maizie has just written. there is no getting away from it.
They are issues troubling and dividing a nation just as we write and appear in thread after thread.

Nonsense - what experience do any of the MPs have when they take up ministerial posts.
My DS works at a relatively high level in the EA and says there isn’t a single minister that has ever held that post who has had even a working understanding of the issues. Surprisingly though he said Gove has been the most successful at grasping some of the issues.
Estelle Morris had been a teacher in an inner-city comprehensive school for eighteen years. She was pretty well respected in our LA during the years of multiple initiatives.
I agree with others that this could find its way into the Daily Mail as the other notorious green trousers thread did.
Not great for Gransnet.

Ah sorry, guess you were talking about the Environment Agency.
😊 yes but apart from the odd one or two being the obvious exception, minister have very little first hand knowledge of their ministry when they first take office.
That is why I think that there is a strong argument for leaving ministers in post for the entirety of a government unless it is unavoidable (they are useless, or sick)
We suffer badly from short-termism in this country.

Yes, though I think it depends on the quality of the SoS or Minister and their abilty to learn quickly from the Private Office.
The last Coservative Defence minister (cannot remember his name and too lazy to look it up) was ex army.

Dan Jarvis was the last ex army Labour Minister for Defence after Healey resigned. It is a shame he didn't have longer.

Oh, the celebrated ‘some posters’ eh? The thread was there to comment on the trouser suit only, which many of us did, can’t remember if anyone actually liked it, lots of us didn’t like it.
A couple of posters only…said a few derogatory things about AR personally which were deleted. A huge wooden spoon was then brought into action by a few who decided that comments about what she was wearing weren’t going to be allowed ( by them).
It was a ridiculous suit, the colour was fine, the suit just wasn’t.
Posters are allowed to comment on sartorial choices worn by Ministers or anyone else for that matter, no matter what the wannabe thread police decide.
Comments on their character aren’t very pleasant but I have read attacks on politicians’ character loads of times on here.
If this particular thread makes the newspapers then it’s a bit of PR for the forum which doesn’t appear to have all that many members.

GSM was banned on the thread about electric hair tongs appearing in Downton Abbey.
😄😄
Why the laughing emojis? Other posters know that this was the thread where GSM was banned and not any other thread.
DaisyAnneReturns summed up what the issue is perfectly, at 7.45 this morning. That is exactly what this, and the green trouser suit thread, are about, although not everybody chooses to see it.

I'm looking forward to the much needed social/affordable housing across the country.
Feeling humble is not the same as being humiliated or debased.
You’re right, it isn’t and AR missed a chance to appeal to the public, she was entitled to the severance pay but a golden opportunity to show that she gave it back ( taxpayers money after all) and understood what many people are going through,
Belt tightening and all that. The kudos would have been worth it to any politician.

Two completely different things
One was a fashion thread, even if political disgruntlement appeared in it or personality angles ( threads do wander) and this one is political disgruntlement only.
Posters cannot and shouldn’t control threads.

You obviously have never worked in the same real world as me.
I’ve worked under quite a few who weren’t fit for the job.
I’m not talking about senior managers, I’m talking about people who were in a position where they had a chauffeur driven car at their disposal 24hrs a day.
It is perfectly reasonable to discuss the severance pay.
I think AR did some impressive work in her previous role, i also think she should have returned the severance pay.
If Angela Rayner had been from a middle class family, spoke with received pronunciation and wore well cut trouser suits this issue about her severance pay would not have been mentioned.

Nonsense. All the papers covered the green trouser suit story BEFORE it appeared on GN. It was a couple of sentences that made the DM afterwards alongside lengthy reviews of said trouser suit by columnists and fashion editors. It was no biggie.
Most politicians are scrutinised for their appearance so why should AR be any different? Look at poor old Boris (generally scruffy in his old swim shorts out jogging) Theresa May (huge necklaces and kitten heel shoes) , Rishi Sunak (tiny expensive clothes), Jeremy Corbyn, Diane Abbott, Tracey Brabin etc etc.

If she’d given it back, certain posters would have accused her of political opportunism, a gimmick, currying favour, so well off she didn’t need it etc etc . AR can’t win with some posters can she?
Nope I wouldn't have done that. It is the right thing to do.
You know AR is treated with much less respect than any of those you mention Primrose. My post above explains why.
