Still people can comment if they like.

Indeed. That's up to them.

This is the first time I've ever heard of her being referred to as "Annie".

Primrose53 Thu 13-Aug-26 21:04:58

I still feel shocked about her murder and I believe there is a lot to come out yet. RIP Anne.

Your really surprised that no one has commented
I’m really surprised that you got her name wrong.
She was never called Annie

M0nica Thu 13-Aug-26 21:37:36

What was there to comment on? It was a private funeral at a catholic monastery. She was a practising catholic.

The press have given it muted coverage in respect to her family and the tragic cause of her death. There will be a public memorial service in London later this year.

What is there to comment about?

Plevey08 Thu 13-Aug-26 22:12:51

Some harsh comments! I know many people within families and others, who use a slightly different name in an affectionate way to those they think highly of.

MT62 Thu 13-Aug-26 22:24:23

What has no one replying got to do with me calling her Annie.
Sorry my mistake.

merlotgran Thu 13-Aug-26 22:25:02

They’re not harsh comments. It’s respectful to get somebody’s name right especially when referring to their funeral.

Ann Widdecombe was a stickler for etiquette and good manners.

Sorry to Petra, you don’t sound like a fan of hers.

Everyone would have known who you meant MT62. Yes it was a tragic end to her life . I didn't know her funeral was today. Don't let a spelling problem worry you. With it being a private funeral I'm sure those who mourned her loss cared very much.

MawsRosie Thu 13-Aug-26 22:37:40

Were we on close enough terms to refer to her as Annie?
I would not have presumed.
Ann Widdecombe RIP

MartavTaurus Thu 13-Aug-26 22:41:28

Ididn't know her funeral was today.
It was yesterday, Wednesday 12th. See above.

The thing is, on a site where accuracy, stats, evidence etc are demanded by so many posters, it's inevitable that other posters will automatically correct mistakes in names and dates.

Plevey08 Thu 13-Aug-26 22:41:38

MT62 has apologised

Her close friends called her Widdy!

Such a sad end to what was an impressive life.

Plevey08 Thu 13-Aug-26 22:46:01

I stand corrected. Sometimes the context and harmless content is the more important MartavTaurus. Especially if they seem upset.

The stained glass window at Buckfast Abbey.

RIP Ann Widdecombe
