Farage, Reform, their plans, why bother?

Farage and Reform constantly appear to need media attention.

They appear to seek this with a series of very controversial and some ridiculous plans, all aimed either at migrants, mainly, but not limited to, Asylum Seekets, but also now (surprise surprise) those on disability benefits.

But why?

Why does he constantly seek attention? Why does he put forward frankly unrealistic, non-legal solutions to problems and issues that he and his party have blown out of all normal proportion.

Are AS arriving on small boats a problem, yes. Is the number of young people unemployed an issue, yes.

However, if both of these issues/problems were to disappear tomorrow, would that mean we and the rest of the country would all be suddenly alright and the cost of living drop?

In my humble opinion this is a resounding no!

So my question remains. Why? Why come up with ridiculous, uncosted, unplanned so called “solutions”?

Why oh why he is constantly harping on about Asylum Seekers, who make up approx 1% of our population, and now people on disability benefits?

I’m not saying we shouldn’t all work towards resolving these issues, they exist, they require resolutions.

BUT, in the real world, on a day to day basis there are many many other issues which deserve time, effort and money.

I truly abhor the way he tells half a story, most of us are not personally affected by migration of any type. Please don’t tell me that the majority of those arriving here are fit and healthy young men in their thirties, then in the same breath claim they take up valuable places in schools, GP surgeries and hospitals.

PIP, the non-means tested benefit is claimed by both working and no -working people.

Universal Credit, the means tested benefit, is paid to both working and non-working people.

Come on Farage, at least tell the whole story, the entire truth and facts. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Cosy - “pregnant people”????? Did you mean women??

Probably these women have paid into the NHS.
No other country provides such comprehensive dental treatment to the ‘asylum seekers’. e.g. Germany will only provide emergency treatment for acute pain.

No wonder people are considering Reform

Primrose, can you give reference for your post stating " people on not so small boats see a dentist in forty eight hours", please?

This is probably based on more bald-faced lies from Rupert Lowe as told to Joe Rogan and which the British Dental Association has refuted.

www.bda.org/news-and-opinion/news/facts-over-myths-tackling-migration-and-the-crisis-in-dentistry/

I don’t think it is just me who is tired of this platform being used repeatedly to spread misinformation.

Asylum seekers who are receiving some financial support are entitled to apply for an HC2 certificate which gives some help with dental care but there is no fast track.

Farage wants to withdraw all welfare payments to asylum seekers. I hope his followers won’t mind stepping over skeletal corpses in the streets everytime they go out.

Shouldn’t be many to step over ‘in your words’ as lot won’t come if there aren’t many perks.
Before you say anything, if they are desperately fleeing war torn countries, which a lot aren’t, why do they not settle in the first safe country they land in. That’s what I can’t get my head round.

Is Farage still planning to give our money to that abhorrent regime in Afghanistan, so they will take immigrants?
How low can you go?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 17-Aug-26 18:06:02

They are tearing themselves apart - hopefully they will be soon in pieces.

However they do receive completely free dental treatment including dentures, bridges & crowns - all of which, even with a NHS dentist we have to pay for

As do pregnant people and some on certain benefits.

You are making a confusing point, the people you list are not illegal immigrants.

I’ve just seen that Channel 5 have announced a 60 minute documentary, to be shown on Saturday. May be illuminating.

It’s been explained so many times that you really should have got your head round it by now. Under international law asylum seekers are not obliged to stop in the first safe country they reach.

The ones who come to the UK have many reasons for doing so, among them being able to speak English or having friends or relatives already here. Or being convinced by the lies of the people smugglers; perhaps even by the lies perpetrated by the UK right wingers who insist that they will be given generous benefits, free housing and free dental care…

Farage tries hard to make more divisions between groups of people and gives headlines that he cannot back up by truth. He obviously likes to copy ideas including talking rubbish, lying and being totally untrustworthy, even to stick to what has been said a week before, which the self satisfying, lunatic Trump spouts, They both think that they can make promises that they have no intention of fulfilling and have no worries about what they offer as they are quite prepared to change their minds, so long as it suits them.

Those who have family members already working, claiming in this country, why would they let their family members take that dangerous route, on a dangerous dinghy. Why not give them the airfare MaizieD

If they are already being processed when they come off the boat, what is the difference coming by plane.
I mean they seem have money to pay these smugglers.
Also they do receive free dental care- maybe not within 48 hrs, only in extreme pain.
I looked it up.

I think many people Will Bother, because although it it may astonish you many people are Not At All Impressed by Andrew Burnham.

In my view there are way too many people who think Farage is the second coming of the Messiah. I fully accept he is a good salesman but when he was a MEP he seldom attended the European Parliament and rarely voted. Maybe the UK would have had a better deal if he had attended ?
look at his own declaration on the parliamentary website of income . Could he cope on a PM's salary ?

Good points.

MT62 Tue 18-Aug-26 09:18:49

I don’t know what the answer is to sorting out the migration crisis but I can guarantee 100% the people of Piddington won’t be voting for labour any time soon.

My post is about FARAGE

Just Farage, those of you who despise and abhor Asylum Seekers, writing most of them off as dangerous grifters/scammers, actually do not see the irony of your beliefs, do you?

I simply wanted to discuss Farage and his ideals, values and policies.

As far as I can see, his entire plans simply revolve around penalising vulnerable people, black, white, British, non-British, low paid, unwell, unemployed.

His entire rhetoric punishes those who cannot or will not help themselves.

I simply cannot understand why anyone, other than the super-rich, would support him.

His nasty divisive digs at anyone who doesn’t fit his idea of a true Brit/Patriot, and his smug speeches claiming to support “patriots” is frankly laughable and honestly, I’m pretty bored with him blaming migrants and those on benefits for all our country woes.

What we actually need, regardless of our own values and opinions, is to come together, it doesn’t matter which colour politics we support, what matters, more than anything at all ever, is that we come together and work together to level the playing fields, give all of our citizens the same equal chances at improving their lives and giving their families the best chances to live their best lives, building resilience, remembering that actually we are all, to some extent, responsible for our own destinies.

Support people, not tear them apart, accept personal responsibility, not blame others.

Anyone who still believes the extremely elite, extremely wealthy Farage, is a man of the people, should check themselves in immediately to the nearest asylum.

Btw, yes I want a sensible, swift resolution to those arriving by illegal means to our, and any other country. I acknowledge it’s an issue and a problem.

I want this done legally and fairly and I genuinely believe most of them are “genuine asylum seekers”, just look at the countries most of them are coming from.

I'm 61 I'm up at 5am to head out to work. I'm tired after working hard from 15 years old. I keep going because I've got self respect and wouldn't dream of sponging off the tax payer.
Too many people taking out and not enough paying in. So yes I do agree with a lot of what NF says...I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing about people who choose not to work handed benefits. Everybody should make a contribution to society including AS but from what I've seen locally they are just sat around. Why don't they participate in local litter picks? Maybe give something back to the community. I think I've done my bit over the years I feel worn out.

I agree with most of what you say.

Like most GNs here, I worked full time, taking short breaks for maternity leave, ranging from 6 weeks to 5 months. I fully retired at 64, having started paid work in my teens.

I absolutely agree that anyone capable of working, should work, unless of course, they are in a situation where they are able to be self-sufficient/supported whilst not claiming benefits.

However, having worked in the benefit system from 2009-2022 I can assure in the half dozen jobcentres I physically worked in and the projects in which I was involved across my entire county, and nationally, I can say with some knowledge and experience, that the majority of benefit claimants do not live the lives portrayed by our right wing press and many are actually actually seeking work (as they should be).

I think most Asylum Seekers would absolutely love to do paid or unpaid work, they are currently prohibited, by laws, from doing this.

I’d love them to be doing supervised volunteering.

Keeping them occupied and speeding up their applications as well as doing all we can to limit their numbers, would be a great and positive way forward.

Ironically almost 50% of those people living in Farage’s constituency are in receipt of benefits of some kind. Our biggest bill from the DWP, is state pension.

Yes I have also worked in a benefit office and I don't have the same view as you.
When you have worked hard all your life and paid your taxes you in the very least expect good public services and being able to see a Dr when you need one in a reasonable time frame. That's just not happening at the moment is it? None of this is NF's doing. Because I agree with some of his policies, I, according to you need to check into an Asylum.
