Interesting.
And the children starting school here.

I only hope that neither of them carry on their 'ooh, look what we are doing so marvellous' and let William and Kate get on with the proper job of being working royals. How Kate must feel with her 'sister-in-law' returning to the UK. I am sure she can do without out it, especially seeing that she has been unwell herself and has a job to do as future queen in waiting. How do Harry and Meghan sleep at night?

Do you attach any credence to the rumours that they worry what D Trump may do about them as he gets mote and more irrational?
Questions apparently about the Prince’s visa application.

Yes, I think that is an important factor. It gives Trump power over their lives, and a weapon to use against the UK should he choose to do so.

I do hope they can have a relatively quiet life in some big country house behind a large gate, but I don't think your press will let them.

Think it is the Sussex family who court publicity Canadiangran not the other way round.

Whatever the circumstances are for them returning to the UK, looking at it 'family-wise', the King will get to know his grandchildren.

The return of Prince Harry and family have been the top news item on every news bulletin since Wednesday evening.

They have been front page news in newspapers.

Countless social media posts, for and against GN included.

The press and social media are like a starving dog with a bone.

David49 Fri 21-Aug-26 09:28:50

Of course we don't have to watch it but the appetite for salacious revelations is immense, it would get attention, "what is she going to do next"

Maybe a cameo on an existing soap to judge reaction, more likely a new production, every time Meghan's name gets mentioned, good or bad, it gets linked to the soap, free publicity like that is priceless.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 21-Aug-26 09:29:12

Even the BBC is playing the game.

It is speculating about Meghan’s future.

A period of quiet would not go amiss.

eazybee Fri 21-Aug-26 09:31:54

Whatever the reason behind the imminent arrival of H&M it will have been decided for their own advantage, no-one else's.

I would like to believe that a quiet private life is their intention, I will applaud them when it happens.

But if you have a national soap opera ( and in my view that is what the royal family is) the media and the public are going to comment on it.

Royal family has been made into, they didn't want it.

MarieElla Fri 21-Aug-26 09:57:07

I think their publicist has put out the suggestion that Meghan is moving here for an acting role in order to be offered one?

TerriBull Fri 21-Aug-26 10:03:48

Twas ever thus! It's nothing new, George 1V was a source of lampooning 200 or so years ago when salacious caricatures appeared. It did seem he was a figure of mockery. Certain members of the royal family's lives back in time have played out in not a dissimilar way as they do today. It's usually corresponds in how they live/d as to notoriety and courting publicity. However, it's fair to say there are those that don't fall into either of those categories. And of course today we have the Great Satan of social media.......and well those who put it all out there can hardly complain about intrusion.

Questions apparently about the Prince’s visa application.

I do think this may be playing a part, maybe the primary reason. We know Harry has publicly stated he took drugs and this has been hanging over them for a while.

There are so many factors both pushing them out of the US and pulling them towards the UK, but we can't be sure whether one was the deciding factor or several things combined.

25Avalon Fri 21-Aug-26 10:25:04

Some say Harry realised after his father’s cancer diagnosis that the King is not going to be around for ever and he wants to heal the rift. That could be an element but what about Meghan’s father? He is not a well man and has never seen his grandchildren.

I commented upthread, similarly.

A Google search indicates that the State Department is currently 'actively' reviewing Harry's Visa file. Trump repeatedly targeted his Visa status during his rallies - he doesn't like Meghan who publicly criticised him in the past.

Most people are aware of the US' very strict policy on illicit drugs (and I don't criticise them for it) - Harry is facing questions as to whether he lied on his immigration papers.

I suspect this might well be something the couple considered when making the decision to return, but that's simply speculation on my part because, unlike a few others on here, I don't know what motivated him, or her.

Trump had them in his sights at one time. He has bigger fish to fry at the moment though, but who knows when he might veer off track and show a renewed interest in them.

fancythat Fri 21-Aug-26 10:29:33

We may never know the real reason. Unless they let us know. And they do tend to not keep things hidden.

I think schooling may well have played a part.
Are the schools in the US not up to much??

LemonJam Fri 21-Aug-26 10:32:36

The past as someone said is a foreign country, or words to that effect. For positive change everyone needs to move on. As far as I can see all current drama about H and M's decision to set up a home in the UK is being initiated and driven by the media and high level speculation.

Like us all, H and M are entitled to choose where they would like to live, for their own personal reasons and for their family's benefit. Their children will start a new school and they will find a house to suit their needs. I hope their children settle and are happy- as you would wish for all children and all families.

Meghan will or will not find a role and act again. As it was her previous profession that's entirely possible. She will succeed or fail according to her talents- as is the case for all actors.

Harry will able to see his father more with his children- nice for them both. Attachment between them is understandable and a strong human instinct for both of them as it is for us all, even when relationships have been damaged. Many families have falls outs.

William and Harry may or may not reconcile- that depends on both of them, not just Harry. If the media is to be believed, William is stubborn, still feels bitter and angry and is not minded to forgive, forget or reconcile. If that is the case and remains the case H and W will not reconcile- simple as. There would need to be a wish to reconcile by both and give and take on both sides.

All of this will happen with or without press intrusion. Less press intrusion less drama. More press intrusion more drama. I

What do I think? I continue to be stunned by the level of anger expressed by some towards two people they’ve never met. How thoughts and feelings are projected on to them. The complete disregard for human compassion and acceptance that family dynamics are complex. Estrangement is hugely painful for anyone involved. Each participant is likely to have a different view and as Her Maj commented, recollections my vary
Demonising one side or another is not constructive. Simplifying complex problems enhances unhealthy polarisation

There seems to be a massive amount of guessing what others are feeling, in this post.

You do have a few points.
I think social media is to blame for polarisation.

For me, the couple repeatedly "show themselves up", as a relative would say.

Perhaps she’ll turn up in Eastenders or Coronation Street!🤣🤣

I don’t watch either, but please let it be Coronation Street.
The thought of Romesh Ranganathan prancing through EastEnders or any other BBC programme I’m paying my licence fee for, holding Megan‘s hand saying “What has the BBC done for you?”
makes me cringe.

That wont stop. It will intensify.

Which is probabkly my biggest surprise that they have come back over.
That and security concerns which were supposed to be oh so important.

To be fair, they may well be in danger.
Especially if they keep on about the issue so publically and so often publically.

I think too much is made of the King ‘getting to know his GC’.

He is a very busy man, has his own health concerns, how much does he actually see of George, Charlotte, Louis and don’t forget Camilla has GC also.

I suspect Charles probably sees as much of them as he wants, probably holidays at Balmoral and Sandringham are good opportunities to mix.

Will H&M be popping up there with children same time as everyone else?

hmm

fancythat Fri 21-Aug-26 10:38:24
