Interesting.
And the children starting school here.

Galaxy Sat 22-Aug-26 19:53:30

Why does paddyann continually use old in her description of people on here. Does this mean she would use it about other characteristics such as sexuality, race etc. It is beyond weird.

Casdon Sat 22-Aug-26 19:53:45

It’s a good job that some posters aren’t on Oprah themselves I think.

Witzend Sat 22-Aug-26 19:53:48

TBH I wish they’d just stay in California.

JenniRen Sat 22-Aug-26 20:13:25

"Why are Kate n Will good and H and M bad."

Perhaps because one couple has very openly trashed their family's reputation in public and the other couple has not?
Whingeing poor me, poor me?
It does not endear them to anyone.
It was planned and very unkind. Is jealousy at the bottom of all this?

However, I hope they can reconcile with both families before it's too late for King Charles and Mr Markle.
Their young children deserve better.

"I read some of these threads for entertainment…who knew so many old women could be so bitter and so vile about a young family that not one of you actually know?"

I'm not sure why a young person would come on Gransnet.
Am I missing something? The young people in my family have probably never heard of it, they're more into Instagram, Snapchat I think.

Harry and Meghan are now middle-aged, although they are older parents of young children.

So many nasty comments on here and in the press. We should welcome this family and their 2 little children. Can you imagine what the children will feel in a strange country, new school and people putting hate comments about their parents? Harry told it how he saw it in Spare and interviews rightly or wrongly. He has a lot of compassion and started the invictus games for disabled veteran. Megan was constantly criticised in the press even about touching her stomach when she was pregnant and how she held her baby.
William criticised her to Harry and attacked Harry for defending his wife. William has a nasty temper but is portrayed as a Saint in the tabloids.
I'm hoping the whole RF will put the past to rest and welcome them home. Be kind and mean it.

JenniRen Sat 22-Aug-26 20:32:09

Why should we welcome them?

They either come here or not, it's irrelevant to me personally, I care not.
However, as the King is our Head of State with duties to carry out, it is our business and I hope a reconciliation is taking place, and with William and Catherine too, although some of what has been said may be difficult to overcome.

Things that gave been said cannot be unsaid.

^The public plays a part also- when it laps it all up and speculates endlessly on social media what they are doing, going to do, what their motivations are, what their reasons are for life decisions they make, dredging up past perceived crimes and misdemeanours- on and on and on.

And GN is part of that public.

They’ll be fine, as anyone who grew up in a service family will attest. It’s no big deal being moved at short notice when you are too young to appreciate the whys and wherefores. It’s not as if they’re fleeing from bombs.

Pot, kettle, black, Galaxy? Or maybe it takes one to know one? grin

JenniRen Sat 22-Aug-26 22:29:44

That was uncalled for.

Gango Sat 22-Aug-26 22:33:16

Wow paddyann54
I don’t care what happens behind closed doors but trashing your own family and then playing the victim is too much
The US have found them out so now they come home to look for sympathy and handouts here

MissAdventure Sat 22-Aug-26 22:42:53

And guess what would have happened if they hadn't come here?
Oh, deary me - they'd be wrong!(again)

Says who?

MissAdventure Sat 22-Aug-26 22:49:33

Me.

JenniRen Sat 22-Aug-26 23:15:23

Not me. I thought they'd be happy in the States, pity it's going wrong.

Gango Sat 22-Aug-26 23:49:32

So MissAdventure you think trashing your family for profit isn’t wrong?
Or that those affected shouldn’t be aggrieved?
Just imagine the liberal outrage if William had wrote a book lambasting his brother and his self absorbed American wife. I’m sure the outrage from montecino would have been epic
“Poor private us (H & M) have been singled out possibly because of Harry’s hair colour …” boo hoo

MissAdventure Sun 23-Aug-26 00:04:39

No, I don't think it's right, but they aren't my family, so...
They're all their own people, and capable of dealing with wayward members in their own ways, as they always have. Privately.

eazybee Sun 23-Aug-26 07:10:18

Front page picture cf H&M on the Telegraph for the fourth day in succession plus several articles within the paper.
Numerous complaints to the newspaper which they completely ignore.
The uninformed speculation about how other members of the royal family will react is not private but splashed through the paper in numerous separate articles. It is descending into a tabloid.

Rejected, too controversial even for Netflix, she will of course find someone to employ her but not in a staring role.

Oh, Oprah, doing her trademark "Gosh! I am ever so shocked" facial contortions when she interviewed Harry and Meg (well Meg really - Harry just sat like a bump on a log. He had his orders.)

The whole interview was extremely choreographed.

There was a time that actresses were only tolerated by the Royals if they were mistresses.........Edward VII was notorious.

NotSpaghetti Sun 23-Aug-26 07:47:40

All the royal couples have gone through a "bad" phase as Iam said. Women entering the family have been the subject of often quite nasty stuff.

Even the saint Diana was, I seem to remember, a poor wee virgin lamb led to slaughter to produce heirs amidst all the brouhaha of the royal wedding. She was chased by the press from the beginning.

Catherine was constantly ridiculed for her trolley dolly heritage, the clothes she modeled "throwing herself " at William- there were photos of them when not doing public appearances, drone photos in the windows of her house I seem to remember. I don't think any royal women have an easy ride.

And of course Camilla is still spoken of in derogatory terms.

The difference is, Meghan and Harry have poked the bear, - and alarmingly so - if only they had sat back and waited...

Public opinion seems to be far worse of Meghan and Harry than on GN.

I feel like there are several posters who are quite out of step on this subject,

fancythat Sun 23-Aug-26 08:10:14

Apparently, if she was in a West End show, people would go and watch her.

If on that Netflix film, apparently not.

I would probably watch the film, if it was my sort of thing.

MartavTaurus Sun 23-Aug-26 08:32:38

If Meghan were in a West End show, I might well go to watch. She'd be playing a part after all, that's fine.
If she were prattling on about herself on Netflix, then I'd give it a miss..
