Interesting.
And the children starting school here.

Rejected, too controversial even for Netflix, she will of course find someone to employ her but not in a staring role.

Public opinion seems to be far worse of Meghan and Harry than on GN.

I feel like there are several posters who are quite out of step on this subject,

Do you mean those of us who don’t post personal attacks on this couple, but particularly Megan are out of step.
If so, I too am Spartacus

fancythat Sun 23-Aug-26 08:43:29

No.

Those who believe they have not behaved badly.
And maybe can do no wrong.
And are innocent.
And think it is all the media. Or something.

David49 Sun 23-Aug-26 08:49:00

My own view is, they can come back here and live privately, fine, buy a house or an estate and live quietly. However with the acting ambitions they want to continue as celebrities, thats not going to happen.

For Harry to qualify as "prodigal" son he has to change so does his wife

fancythat Sun 23-Aug-26 08:51:44

They appear to have burnt their bridges even more than I suspected.
I am beginning to feel sorry for them.

But yes, they need to change behaviour.
And pretty quickly it seems.

fancythat Sun 23-Aug-26 08:54:21

Perhaps they will end up living in Portugal.
But I dont know how they will pay bills.

MarieElla Sun 23-Aug-26 08:55:39

It's likely a conversation was had about Meghan having a role in Guy Richie's film and they, or their publicist decided to 'leak' it and therefore, it was withdrawn due to it being far too early in the process.
Self sabotage?

Mollygo Sun 23-Aug-26 09:08:37

Several of famous people have trashed their families in print, or other media, writing about the perceived wrongs they have suffered.

I can’t find any references to them expecting or being given a welcome back into the family.

Estrangement is painful. Just read the threads on social media.

Would you welcome back family members who have publicly trashed you even in the smaller milieu where you live, or wider milieu where you are known if you are more famous?

Luckygirl3 Sun 23-Aug-26 09:19:17

Harry and William had ‘difficult’ childhoods. From what we know their different personalities, different family positions suggest these two boys now men have different views and had different experiences
It is important to remember this.

William has chosen one route in life on the basis of his experiences, Harry another on the basis of his. William has chosen to join the family business, Harry to branch out. Neither is wrong and both have the right to make that choice.

However with the acting ambitions they want to continue as celebrities ....
Acting is Meghan's profession. It is as simple as that.

Celebrity is a fact of their lives: he because he is the son of a king, and she because she is an actress. Both have had difficulties in their upbringing and are trying to raise their family as best they can. Why do people hate them for this?

None of us know what went on behind closed doors and it is naive to suggest that Harry's anger and hurt were without foundation and a figment of his imagination. We may not like how he expressed these but have to recognise the pain behind his response. He showed himself to be a good soldier and colleague, and he initiated the Invictus Games. All of us in our lives have a balance of decisions and actions that are never all on one side of the good/bad wise/unwise divide and hope that others will judge us with humanity.

The strong desire to vilify this family whatever they might do is frankly extremely unhealthy. It makes me shudder. What purpose does it serve? Who gains from it? As well as causing pain to the victims it is not an asset to the perpetrators.

icanhandthemback Sun 23-Aug-26 09:21:54

Wasn't there a book where Charles trashed his upbringing? Didn't both he and Diana give tv interviews which were shocking at the time? Time was a great healer when the news moved on. Unfortunately, none of them made the mistake of being born black.

Galaxy Sun 23-Aug-26 09:24:45

Many people loved Diana but many hated her. And actually for a time charles was very unpopular. If you create a soap opera then people will become heroes or villians.

Mollygo Sun 23-Aug-26 09:39:40

Why do people keep using the word hate rather than dislike?

e.g. Why do people hate them for this?

Has anyone on here actually said they hate H&M?

nanna8 Sun 23-Aug-26 09:43:12

But they didn’t just trash their family, they also lied. They courted publicity in the worst way possible. However ‘bad’ your family might be you don’t publicly put them through the wringer.

Lathyrus3 Sun 23-Aug-26 09:52:25

Not even a personal dislike really, since I dint know them.

More a general dislike of people who lie and make things up to get what they want or “win” without caring who they damage.

False people with no integrity.

I dont like them in real life or on Gransnet. 🤔

Galaxy Sun 23-Aug-26 09:57:05

I also dont think it was due to colour ( although of course, for a small percentage that would be the case) I think if anything it was the profound difference between American and British culture.

Sadgrandma Sun 23-Aug-26 10:01:13

Having made the decision to return, Harry is again prattling on about security again, expecting it to be funded by us. Surely he should have sorted that out before deciding to return!
As far as Meghan’s return to acting, if she was to appear in the West End isn’t she worried that she might be pelted with rotten tomatoes?

Usedtobeblonde Sun 23-Aug-26 10:10:17

I have recently been rewatching Castle, an American crime series, imagine my surprise when in one episode Meghan Markle played a small part, she turned out to be the villain.
It was in about 2012.
On the evidence of her acting ability in that I certainly wouldn’t pay to go and see her, she wasn’t good, she wasn’t bad, she was just another actress playing a small part and unremarkable.

Chestnut Sun 23-Aug-26 10:16:26

LemonJam Race and Gender Many sociologists and cultural commentators argue that misogynoir (misogyny directed at Black women) and overt or latent racism play a substantial role in the hostility she faces. As a biracial American woman entering a traditionally white, rigid British institution, she became a focal point for racial animus.
I don't believe the country as a whole showed her any racial hostility at the beginning. Look at the lavish wedding we gave her and Harry. We were happy to accept her into the Royal Family. It was her attitude and behaviour which soured the cream.

NotSpaghetti Sun 23-Aug-26 10:26:42

I don't think colour came into it.

But I would say that as a white person, probably.
... I may be blind but I honestly didn't even notice - and it was irrelevant to me anyway.

Luckygirl3 Sun 23-Aug-26 10:34:26

A good point was made upthread about Charles' revelations and criticisms as a young man via David Dimbleby of his cold childhood/parenting and adultery. Charles did not hold back about what he saw as his father's cruelty and his mother's emotional distance.

This caused shock and criticism at the time.

It closely parallels the Harry/Meghan scenario now - it is just the media methods that have changed.

The media slowly decided to rehabilitate Charles. I am sure the media will continue to tell us what we should think .......

Wherever they live I hope they can find happiness and peace.

There are two innocent children starting school in a new to them country, wishing them well.

Indeed so.

H has already stated that they want "round the clock; publicly funded police protection". Apparently they're not being completely clear about how long they expect to stay in the UK after all? They're trying to engineer by sleight of hand what they always wanted in the first place. They come and go as they please between houses in the USA, Portugal (why Portugal everyone? Nothing against it ; never been there; ) and the UK ; security funded by the British taxpayer; no Royal "work" as the others understand it.On reflection one of Prince Andrew's daughters has her base in Portugal doesn't she ? Is it Eugenie who is married to Jack Brooksbank? Is Portugal the new Monaco ?

David49 Sun 23-Aug-26 10:52:34

Harry has a wealthy parent they could live a normal quiet live comfortably he will pay, but if they continue to be wayward don't count on that they may yet get cut off completely.

If it was my son he would already have lost his title and any privileges.

Sadgrandma Sun 23-Aug-26 10:56:25

Yes Eugenie lives in Portugal most of the time but neither she or any of the other non-working royals such as Zara or Peter Phillips gets publicly funded security so why H & M think they should is beyond me.

ExDancer Sun 23-Aug-26 11:03:44

Grace Kelly made a successful transition from actress to princess. There's an example for Meghan to follow.

It is not beyond me.

They have been single-mindedly targeted by a hostile press.
