Having made the decision to return, Harry is again prattling on about security again, expecting it to be funded by us. Surely he should have sorted that out before deciding to return!
As far as Meghan’s return to acting, if she was to appear in the West End isn’t she worried that she might be pelted with rotten tomatoes?

1st paragraph - it a bit feels like they are leaving in a hurry.

2nd paragraph - read somewhere that last time, there was a 40 page document on their security risks.
And that it goes from 1-7, and at one point it was 7.

I would have thought, being on stage, would up their security risk by quite a lot.

The strong desire to vilify this family whatever they might do is frankly extremely unhealthy. It makes me shudder. What purpose does it serve? Who gains from it? As well as causing pain to the victims it is not an asset to the perpetrators.

Exactly, Luckygirl. This is what happened as soon as Harry met Meghan and they both have participated in reviling their families , both sides, enthusiastically since their marriage. It has rebounded on the perpetrators, and as usual their expressed intentions are proving to be either false or unrealistic, and also divisive.
I liked the GB News take on it this morning: 'well at least it has given desperate reporters in the dog days of the summer new material to write about.'

Grace Kelly made a successful transition from actress to princess. There's an example for Meghan to follow.

If I wanted to find the antithesis of the elegant and beautiful Grace Kelly then Meghan would fit the bill. Megan wants to cherry pick the parts of being a princess that she wants, the rest of it is not for her.

It appears that Netflix have pulled the plug on Meghan's return to acting according to Tina Brown, former editor-in-chief of The New Yorker and Vanity Fair.

All the royal couples have gone through a "bad" phase as Iam said. Women entering the family have been the subject of often quite nasty stuff.

Even the saint Diana was, I seem to remember, a poor wee virgin lamb led to slaughter to produce heirs amidst all the brouhaha of the royal wedding. She was chased by the press from the beginning.

Catherine was constantly ridiculed for her trolley dolly heritage, the clothes she modeled "throwing herself " at William- there were photos of them when not doing public appearances, drone photos in the windows of her house I seem to remember. I don't think any royal women have an easy ride.

And of course Camilla is still spoken of in derogatory terms.

The difference is, Meghan and Harry have poked the bear, - and alarmingly so - if only they had sat back and waited...

Well said.
Catherine's family were put through the wringer, even more than the Markle family.

The others have kept their heads down and got on with the jobs they are required to carry out.

And when William met Catherine too.

At least Andrew is having a break from publicity. He must be relieved. Every cloud and all that!

The difference is, Meghan and Harry have poked the bear - Charles too poked the bear when he was young. Now he can do no wrong .........

" jesuswept" isn't nice really.

ExDancer Sun 23-Aug-26 12:43:45

I wasn't comparing the two MarieElla (Lord forbid) but holding her up as a shining example of how to behave correctly.

The difference is, Meghan and Harry have poked the bear ??
confused
And that is a good thing?

MarieElla Sun 23-Aug-26 13:06:33

greyfur16 Jesuswept is an expression I've been using since a teen.
It's commonly used by practicing catholics and ex catholics, as I am.
Best not tell a grown woman that something isn't nice.
It's your opinion and my expression to use as and when I want to.
Now, back to Meghan and Harry.

It shiws that public opinion can be altered.

Sometimes by a change in behaviour.
Sometimes when public opinion catches up with the people it scorned - as in Charles much mocked concern for the environment.

The opportunity is there for Harry and Meghan perhaps. I just don't know what careers they could follow that don't rely on the Royal connection. And that comes with publicity and press.

How rude. Best not to tell a grown woman what she finds offensive.

MarieElla Sun 23-Aug-26 13:41:12

Not rude..blunt.
You're offended by 'jesuswept' is your issue and you don't get to tell someone (other than a child, perhaps) not to use it....that "it isn't nice really" is passive aggressive and quite comical that you think it appropriate to say to another grown up.

merlotgran Sun 23-Aug-26 13:50:56

Camilla worked hard for years to redeem herself with the British public and prove herself to be the loyal and constant support that Charles needs.
I think Harry and Meghan are expecting something a little quicker than that!

We shall see…..

David49 Sun 23-Aug-26 13:53:35

"Catherine's family were put through the wringer, even more than the Markle family."

Catherine's family knew what to expect and knew how to handle it, Catherine accepted that she would be part of the family and would be well down the hierarchy for many years.

Meghan wanted to be the star and have her own separate life the wedding set the tone and it all went downill from there.

😂 Can’t believe there are 18 pages on this!
Have we got nothing better to do with our time?
I only read the first 2 and last one and decided I’d read enough! 🤣

I laughed MarieElla. It's an expression I use all the time! Carry on regardless.

Meghan wanted to be the star

How do people think they know these things or can insert themselves in someone else's mind?

I also dont think it was due to colour ( although of course, for a small percentage that would be the case) I think if anything it was the profound difference between American and British culture.

I absolutely agree, there is a nuanced difference between American and British culture, there's a superficiality of how some wealthier elements of American society present. Particularly prevalent in California and parts of the east coast.

I also agree there would have definitely been an element of targeted abuse toward Meghan because she is bi racial. On the whole I think most of the public were rooting for her at the outset, they turned out to cheer her on. With the thoughts that she could be someone who could kick over the traces of the old order and break down some previous barriers. Gradually it all went south the whys and the wherefores well chewed over. I'd say the catalyst for no going back would be the Oprah interview with Oprah's own collusion being so transparent in the faux shock it came across as rehearsed to the enth degree in the underlying objective. The public aren't stupid it was quite evident that this had all the hallmarks of a cynical manipulation to present a one sided argument knowing there would be no right of reply, without any acknowledgement, there are generally two sides to how family dynamics play out, everybody is aware of that because it resonates in families far and wide. That was just a type of elevated mud slinging that any ordinary Joe might use towards adversary on say FB possibly couched in a more restrained style but still underpins "I'm going for the jugular"

The US may have gone down the road of embracing H&M initially once the interview had been followed up by the book they too became aware of the interminable moaning coming out of the Sussex camp, whilst living a life of enviable luxury. Meanwhile, in the same sunshine state where these enclaves of wealth exist, there's a parallel universe of the burgeoning tent cities and a harsh economic climate. Hence the lampooning backlash that came down the line firstly from South Park, which is a bit of an institution for high lighting double standards and media hypocrisy. Most damning of all was possibly "the grifters" comment by the Spotify executive.

Preaching to the world weary with platitudes, psychobabble and scrambled word salad, is all pretty meaningless, whilst simultaneously giving glimpses into an idealised luxury lifestyle.

Galaxy Sun 23-Aug-26 14:29:20

I mean I sort of dont blame her if ever I ended up in the royal family I would be a complete nightmare grin but I agree it was never going to work.

TerriBull Sun 23-Aug-26 14:31:28

It's not for the faint hearted! I think Chelsea Davy and Cressida Bonus saw the limitations and both opted for something else.

MarieElla Sun 23-Aug-26 14:35:43

Boz wink
It really is unbelievable that so many stories have been printed about them since their announcement on Thursday.
I find it all to be a great distraction, especially as I'm going going through a difficult time with an elderly parent.
