Interesting.
And the children starting school here.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 24-Aug-26 11:44:19

This thread is entirely in lock step with the DM, which recently had the total of 15 pages about a couple and their children moving from the USA to the U.K.

Utterly mad

August is a slow month for news usually.
They probably deliberately announced it in August for that reason.
Who knows?
Maybe it's bern planned for a while.

You would hope so wouldn’t you?
Otherwise they might be off again before the kids grow out of their school uniforms. 😟

Wherever they live I hope they can find happiness and peace.

There are two innocent children starting school in a new to them country, wishing them well.

What a refreshing post.

In lockstep WWM2 yes....

GG13- your post, 4 days later and after over 500 posts so far- still remains the most refreshing.

Anniebach Mon 24-Aug-26 13:15:08

Surely no one thinks differently for the children, you think they read GransNet?

It's not for the faint hearted! I think Chelsea Davy and Cressida Bonus saw the limitations and both opted for something else.

As did Diana, Harry's Mother.

It's incomprehensible that Meghan didn't notice, and Harry didn't warn her.

He appears to be hellbent on revisiting his own childhood history and inflicting it on his own wife and children.

It took a very brave woman to take on Harry and all his problems.
Or one who was naïve and I don't see Meghan as naïve.

Oh gosh I think everyone on GN is far more caring and careful in their comments about royal / celebrity children these days. And rightly so! We used to have criticism of Archie's wonky eye, Louis' bad behaviour, possible autism, Harper Beckham's weight (fat), etc.
I hope the children will be very happy in their new environment.

But it will start when people get a full glimpse of these children.

It was Meghan who started all the nonsense about the children when for some peculiar reason she tried to falsify the date, time and place of their birth, followed by an attempt to make a great mystery out of the identity of the godparents, (nobody cared) then an appearance with baby at a royal gymkhana where several younger scions of the royal family were playing; spent most of the time in the car and then disappeared to a corner of the field with child trailing an enormous blanket.
All the shots of the back of the head which will only inspire enterprising photographers to go to extreme lengths in desperate attempts to capture a full face shot.
Unless she does what all the other RF members have done; allow several carefully monitored pictures of first day at school, and no more until they leave.
Meghan strikes me as a woman who demands absolute control of everything pertaining to her; was unable to thwart royal protocol so has retaliated consistently by causing as much upset from the sidelines as she can. I see this latest venture as just another attempt.

For the sake of the children, if they do start at new schools I sincerely hope they are allowed to stay there.

Royal children are Nanny raised, hence the good behaviour when on show; they are trained from birth (rightly or wrongly) to be well-behaved.
Notice how the Wales's children have neat and tidy clothes and well combed hair and quiet demeanour (even Louis).

Casdon Mon 24-Aug-26 15:38:40

I don’t understand why anybody would think we should see their children’s faces. They are not public property, it’s entirely up to their parents at the age they are to decide what is best for them. I think that is one decision people should not criticise.

Boz Mon 24-Aug-26 15:42:34

The thing is, Casdon, it creates a mystique that is resented, making people more determined to see the full picture.
It is playing a silly game imo.

Yes, they are indeed trained and appear for a very short time (a good thing)

Smileless2012 Mon 24-Aug-26 16:01:27

I agree Boz it is playing a silly game. Anyone who manages to get a photo of Archie and/or Lilli will be able to sell it for a fortune whereas if they monitored and controlled photographs as William and Catherine have done, there'd be no point in possibly hounding and stalking them.

merlotgran Mon 24-Aug-26 16:01:33

The late Queen said, ‘We have to be seen to be believed.’ That’s why there are occasional pictures of the children.
Harry and Meghan could argue that if they’re not working royals it doesn’t apply to them and it’s illegal to take photos of children without permission.

The trouble is it will just encourage more speculation and chit chat. Maybe they’ll post a picture of the children when they start their new school….or maybe they’ll won’t!

Casdon Mon 24-Aug-26 16:12:10

But their children have no royal role, nor will they, they aren’t celebrities themselves, just children, and a lot of celebrities protect their children by not showing their faces publicly.

I can see that the Sussexes have created a mystique by not allowing the children’s faces to be seen, but I don’t see why people have allowed that to become an issue - why do people actually care what they look like?

Heaven help them..

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 24-Aug-26 16:28:00

I don’t think we’ve seen the faces of Beatrice’s children.

Galaxy Mon 24-Aug-26 16:58:11

Lots of people are also being to understand the damage exposure of children in the media/ social media can do. I actually think one of the most damaging things that can happen to children is to be the children of famous people.

MarieElla Mon 24-Aug-26 17:03:07

Meghan and Harry could easily keep them out of photos like many other celebrities do. Just showing the back of their heads is silly. No need to show them at all.

paddyann54 Mon 24-Aug-26 17:26:13

Michael Jackson kept his children under cover ,and very well done to him.Theyhad a fairly normal life without the press ,were able to walk down streets without being recognised and seem, from recent interviews to be nice well adjusted young people .
Whats not to like? Their children their choice …OR they could parade them like children from a different time and invite everyone to view them and clap…..or boo as has happened.William and Kate using their children as PR objects?
Who do you think is right ?

I agree.

Can't imagine why anyone cares to the children's looks.

MartavTaurus Mon 24-Aug-26 17:29:12

So then, it would make more sense for M&H to choose Portugal over the UK. I'm not sure about the technicalities, but basically like in France, Portuguese paparazzi cannot legally take or publish photos of children without explicit parental consent. I think it's called droit à l'image or something, and that's why the Clooneys live in France where their children can't be photographed. Unlike in the UK, where it is considered fair game, say at an event.

Boz Mon 24-Aug-26 17:44:44

But the Clooneys have never titillated the public with silly photos; remember the Disneyland trip when the children's faces were hidden by mickey mouse or somesuch.
