They will be no more at risk than the Prince and Princess of Wales' children are in, and have been since their education started

So Harry and family are coming back!
(924 Posts)Interesting.
And the children starting school here.
I am not so sure about that.
There are many who dont like them[controversial people[and dare I say it think Ann Widecombe]].
Plus apparently what he wrote in the, was it the Spare book, about his days in the army.
Both may up their security risk. More than the Wales.
Perhaps Harry should have given more thought to ‘security risk’ when he wrote his book.
Haven’t forgotten Meghan, in the infamous Oprah interview, saying how Archie had been denied security, (he was hardly going to be out and about as a working royal), wasn’t going to be given a title (yes, he could have had one, just not the one she wanted), and of course, the old chestnut about how ‘dark’ his skin would be.
Drama queen.
Perhaps Harry should have stayed in the US
Does nobody else think it strange that Harry’s demand for armed police security seems to centre on protecting his children from paparazzi, rather than from actual bodily harm?
‘ Harry’s argument was that bringing his wife and children to Britain without the appropriate police protection would put them at risk because the photographers and press would know they were in the country and could pursue them. He described the problem in terms of the family being a target and said that he did not feel able to bring his children to Britain under the existing security arrangements.‘
And from ‘a source close to Harry’( I know, I know)
In June 2026, when his request for police protection for the planned family visit was refused, reports quoted a source close to Harry saying he was “distraught” and would not expose his children to being “chased by paparazzi wherever they go from the moment they step off the plane.”
So Harry’s argument isn’t merely:
“There might be someone who wants to attack my children.”
It also encompasses:
“Without police protection, photographers could pursue my children as soon as they arrive in Britain.”
Public money being used to protect someone’s life is rather different from protecting them from having their photograph taken, is it not?
"Public money being used to protect someone’s life is rather different from protecting them from having their photograph taken, is it not?"
Spot on, Daddima.
What are highly trained armed police protection officers supposed to do if they spot a photographer from one of the tabloids trying to take a photo of Archie on his first day at school? Arrest them? Shoot them?
No-one would want to see them harmed in any way but the security services will be well aware of any imminent threats to their lives and would act accordingly.

Going back to security, I still fail to understand what the real risk is and why it is apparently worse here than in the US.
H himself was in Afghanistan, and I believe made some rather boasting claims about it in his book for which he has only himself to blame. Is this what’s at the bottom of it? Let him make what arrangements he likes and at his own expense in that case.
The Sussexes would have had armed security in USA. Harry isn't allowed to pay for armed security in the UK (he has asked/offered). There have been terrorist threats against him (and his family) and he is subject to stalkers.
Firearms are easily available in the UK.
As the King's sons l believe they should be treated similarly with respect to armed protection unless they choose otherwise. If anything happens to the Sussexes because they don't have armed protection it will be unforgivable,.

This is the problem, because of that some protection will be provided and we will not hear what
If Harry has genuine concerns about the level of security for him and his family in the UK, why on earth did they come back knowing the level of security that would be available?
IMO he's using the children as a means to emotionally blackmail his father and/or the authorities which for me is reprehensible.
This should all have been sorted out before they came back.
They knew it was unlikely that they would get armed security and also that they would not be allowed to pay for it.
They should have stayed in America until it was clear what would be happening.
They are pot stirrers.

You’re probably right but I think Archie and Lili should have the same (discreet) protection as their cousins. Never mind who is right or wrong. You can’t use the safety of any of the King’s grandchildren to make a point.
If there’s a risk it’s the same for all of them.

This is absolutely what I think.
In addition his comments about his time in Afghanistan were unforgiveable, have possibly increased the risk to him and therefore he must stay away.
You can't use the safety of any of the King's grandchildren to make a point which is precisely what Harry is doing with his own children; reprehensible.
I don't know when private schools start their terms; state schools have already gone back. I hope for the sake of the children, the innocent pawns in all this, there will not be a tantrum on the first day of term about being unable to send his children to school without armed protection.
eazybee, my DGS's state school goes back next week. Term dates vary from LA to LA. Private schools usually go back a week later than state schools.

I think risk is higher for Harry's family[much of it his own doing].
Do the Wales' have armed protection currently?

I believe the King and Queen and the Wales family have 24 hour armed protection. The Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh have it whilst working.
Also a high profile royal wedding whether or not the bride/groom normally receives it would have armed protection officers at strategic points throughout the event - and I assume this would be the same for events like Trooping the Colour, Remembrance Sunday and things like the Jubilee/Coronation concerts.
It's not a strighforways Yes they do and No they don't - I'm not sure about other working Royals
*straightforward, not straightforways
I presume that on Thursday, 10th September, there will be the usual official picture of Prince George starting at Eton College
Maybe all the paparazzi will be too busy next week, setting up their stall in Windsor, to worry about seeking out H & M's children in the countryside!
You can be sure that the active Royals have comprehensive protection both visible and discrete

Of course they do, but I'm not sure it's armed protection. There are so few "working" members now - I think the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra get police protection when on official duties but it may not be armed.
But their security is decided upon on a day to day basis depending on various factors. It's the Monarch and Consort and the heir and family who receive 24 hour armed protection right now.
So much bombast as usual.
So much speculation generated as to whether H had returned (almost) unannounced to Britain aiming at a reconciliation, resuming royal duties, a job for Meghan, education for the children.
Then the same old, same old, straight for the jugular: 'where is the protection due to me because I am the son of the King and therefore Very Important.'
That has got me thinking as to how important he actually is, if he is not a working Royal.
And where that leaves his children.
I suppose, working or not, they are all whatever they still are, in line to the throne
And if Meghan is not a working Royal.

I don't think it's so much that they are important, after all the Duchess of Kent managed to live quietly and unobtrusively (and worked as a teacher).
It's more that they have made themselves so high profile and have upset and annoyed so many people.
