I have just been watching frightening flooding currently happening in Nepal. Bridges washed away and buildings destroyed. Many tourists, including British and Australian missing. Pray for these people if you are a believe ,it is really bad.

I have just seen it, it looks terrifying, those poor people.

And in a country poorly equipped to deal with disasters.

AGAA4 Wed 26-Aug-26 16:29:25

It was horrifying watching that flooding. A disaster for those poor people affected by it.

Fallingstar Wed 26-Aug-26 16:34:48

Good grief it was so rapid and destructive, I still feel shaken watching the cctv footage. Poor Nepal and poor loved ones now seeking their missing relatives and friends and fearing the worst.

BlueBelle Wed 26-Aug-26 16:36:27

One of my granddaughters was climbing there a short while ago 😢

It looks truly horrific.

It’s truly awful, so much mud as well as water, people didn’t stand a chance.
There will need to be worldwide help sent to them.

Cossy Wed 26-Aug-26 18:44:04

How be utterly awful.

Hope as many people as possible can be rescued and homes salvaged.

🙏🤞

BlueBelle Wed 26-Aug-26 20:13:39

Yes she’s not there now Oreo
The speed, the strength, and not a well off country, but such nice people.
A dreadful tragedy

Maremia Wed 26-Aug-26 22:08:02

It was shocking to see.

Sueinkent Wed 26-Aug-26 22:27:05

Really horrifying. The result of decades of deforestation by the Chinese I fear.

lovethepuppies Wed 26-Aug-26 23:05:22

I saw the footage. Horrible. Those poor people affected by it.

MT62 Wed 26-Aug-26 23:36:07

Terrible. Just caught up with it.
That woman in the bulldozer, she looked shell shocked.
I pray there aren’t too many casualties.

Climate change may be relevant to this awful tragedy.

nanna8 Thu 27-Aug-26 08:22:44

They think at this stage it may have been caused by a melting glacier crashing down which may or may not have been a result of warmer weather up there. Awful, awful tragedy. We know someone whose family lives in the area, just praying they are safe. They are missionaries.

Casdon Thu 27-Aug-26 08:33:14

It is awful. The devastation caused will take months to clear, they desperately need outside help, and in Tibet too.

There is a blockage lodged upstream on the Nepal-China border river, it seems to be possible that it's not over yet. According to Qianggong Zhang, (head of climate and environmental risks, at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development) a second flood may well occur.

The Red Cross is apparently helping via its partners (there international offices?) in the area.

Here's a link to their donations page in case anyone wants to donate to their disaster fund.

There is an option on the page to make a one-off donation.

Climate change disaster.

Melting and collapse of a glacier.

pably15 Thu 27-Aug-26 09:33:12

it was terrible, how frightening for them, there are so many disasters happening around the world.

Sarnia Thu 27-Aug-26 09:58:26

They say that seeing is believing but watching the sheer scale and force of this devastation, you could be forgiven for thinking you were watching a disaster film.
It brings it home very powerfully just how generations have mistreated our planet.

Until individuals accept that they have to change their lifestyles then this will only get worse.

Do we have the right to jump on an aeroplane whenever we fancy; or to eat produce out of season that has to be flown in; or to shop with Shein/Temu?

People hold their hands up in horror when these dreadful things happen but few are prepared to alter their life in any way that might help.

And I am tired of the argument that says we should not bother just because others do not. We might as well choose to shoplift because someone else does it so what the heck ......

Stop flying unless it is essential; buy British.

Basgetti Thu 27-Aug-26 10:35:36

Unless the world somehow pulls together in a concerted effort - highly unlikely just now, I think - humanity is sadly going to have to accept such awful events as the new norm.

Luckygirl3 Thu 27-Aug-26 10:45:05

I agree that the world needs to pull together, but making that happen is too far on the horizon.

We need to set an example and do whatever we possibly can. We cannot shrug our shoulders and regard it as someone else's problem.
