Full marks Government

I'm pleased to hear that our government is putting sanctions on dealing with Israeli West Bank settlers. It's so outrageously unfair for Israel to encroach on the West Bank in this way.

Moral cowardice has allowed atrocities to go on for too long. Constantly bowing to Trump for fear of what he may do allows these people to carry on killing.

Pro Palestine? I'm pro humanity, pro people.

What a disgusting government we have. There is one modern democracy in the Middle East where women and LGBT people are free. And Labour slap economic sanctions on them.

Disgusting? For standing up against illegal occupation and murder?

Miliband doesn’t go to synagogue so won’t have to face any worries or violence should it occur.

As do most MPs, I imagine he faces significant threats on a daily basis.

Miliband is right. This had to be done now before Israel builds hundreds more homes for Israelis on the West Bank ensuring there can never be a state of Palestine.
He called out the violence on the West Bank towards the Palestinians, which should shock any right minded person and the Israeli government turning a blind eye.
Some of his government live on the west bank and can see what is happening.

You think this gesture will stop anything?
It won’t do anything except annoy the Israeli government and close British embassies.

Casdon Wed 09-Sept-26 09:38:33

Yes, I do actually Oreo.

AGAA4 Wed 09-Sept-26 09:48:26

Oreo there are many other countries who are annoying the Israeli government not just the UK.

I don't think many have much respect for the Netanyahu regime.

Aveline Wed 09-Sept-26 09:55:40

Respect has to be earned. All Netanyahu has earned is opprobrium.

Lovetopaint037 Wed 09-Sept-26 10:14:22

Well done Milliband. This sits well with the fact that he is a British Jew whose parents escaped the Nazis. He stands side by side with the Jewish community in this country.

Sarnia Wed 09-Sept-26 10:14:59

I have never seen the point of Ed Miliband but I thought he made a powerful speech yesterday.
Israel are bullies egged on by their best buddy in the US.
No bright ideas from the Board of Peace for ideas of how to solve the present situation and give the Palestinians a homeland of their own. The silence is deafening.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 09-Sept-26 10:22:11

The Palesrinians do not want peace we in the Wesr should stop deluding ourselves.

foxie48 Wed 09-Sept-26 10:36:47

I think most Palestinians want to live normal lives with freedom of movement, their own land and basic human rights unfortunately these things have been denied them by successive Israeli governments.

I agree that Hamas may not want peace but they are not all Palestinians.
It seems that Israel don't want peace or the aggression would have stopped a long time ago.

Suggesting not going to synagogue will stop anti semites attacking Milliband isn’t supported by history is it. He identified himself as a British Jew, he referred to the Hooocaust and its impact on his family

You’re missing the point. The world isn’t all in black and white, and we should not tolerate genocide by an ally any more than by an enemy,

FriedGreenTomatoes2

I agree Grantanow
The Palestinians do not want peace ever it’s not in their DNA

What on earth qualifies anybody to make these statements?

It's beyond belief really.

The suffering is so great.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 09-Sept-26 11:36:01

FriedGreenTomatoes, I wouldn't want to speculate on the DNA of an entire group of people, but would like to point, respectfully, to the history of the Jewish people, as recorded in what Christians call the Old Testament.
The books list a series of disagreements with their neighbours, some of them fairly brutal.

They didn’t want to be turfed out of their own country, made to live in what even Cameron described as a ghetto only to be squeezed out of that, too….

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 09-Sept-26 13:11:15

Milliband is technically not Jewish. His father was Jewish, but not his mother.

Furthermore, Milliband has described himself as atheist in the past.

I don’t trust him as far as I could throw him.

The Chief rabbi is a man of the people and knows what he is talking about. He is an intelligent and articulate scholar.

greyfur16 Wed 09-Sept-26 13:28:39

How can you speak on behalf of thousands and thousands of people who you claim have unrest in their DNA? Does this apply to the 20, 000 children who have lost their lives?

It's an appalling attitude.

Milliband is a diversion from a very unpleasant thing you posted.

How dare you decide who is Jewish enough. Miliband had relatives who died in the Holocaust, as did I. And I don’t practice the Jewish faith so maybe I am not Jewish enough despite having relatives killed in the Holocaust.
I suggest you think again.

Fallingstar Wed 09-Sept-26 13:32:01

I found your comment offensive but will not report it.

foxie48 Wed 09-Sept-26 13:32:58

FGT both his parents are Jewish and came from Polish Jewish families. He may be a secular Jew, nearly half the Israeli Jews describe themselves as "secular" so it is far from unusual. Unfortunately being a secular Jew did not protect Jews in Poland or anywhere else that the Nazis spread their tentacles.
fwiw I am technically Jewish because my maternal grandmother also came from a family of Polish Jews but married a gentile. I've never been into a synagogue, I am an atheist but had I lived in Poland during the last war I would have been sent to the gas chamber. Does that make me untrustworthy?

Casdon Wed 09-Sept-26 13:41:33

Do you realise that is defamation FriedGreen Tomatoes2? If I were you I’d be asking for it to be removed.
