I'm pleased to hear that our government is putting sanctions on dealing with Israeli West Bank settlers. It's so outrageously unfair for Israel to encroach on the West Bank in this way.

FGT not sure where you’re getting your information from regarding Milliband’s mother, but I think you need to check your sources carefully before making such potentially offensive statements:

“Ed Miliband's mother, Marion Kozak, was Jewish. [1] (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2026/06/04/marion-kozak-david-ed-miliband-holocaust-human-rights-cnd/)

Background Holocaust Survivor:
Born Dobra Jenta Kozak in Częstochowa, Poland, she came from a Jewish family and survived the Holocaust as a child hidden by Polish nuns and others.”

Would like to add that there are many people in the UK who identify as Jewish who don’t support what is happening in Israel, and disagree with the Chief Rabbi.
Including my family and other Jewish people we know, even relatives in Israel.
So Ed Miliband is not alone in this, far from it.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Sept-26 13:56:57

Oh fgt your posts are getting out of control. I cant believe that you hate so much. It is sad to see.

Iam64 Wed 09-Sept-26 14:01:40

Ed Milliband is Jewish . I pointed out earlier,as have a number of ptges, that being a non religious Jew wouldn’t have saved him from concentration camps.

I was relieved to hear him speak so clearly and to refer to his family experience of the Holocaust.

I have friends who don’t practice their faith but the are no less Jewish than others who go to synagogue

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Sept-26 14:01:45

fallingstar my jewish friends all without exception absolutely abhore the Israeli goverment and its actions.

AGAA4 Wed 09-Sept-26 14:02:27

I hope FGT is alright. I know she is often very candid but haven't seen her be so offensive before.
Maybe having a bad day. It happens.

And of course there are many who do support Israel and agree with the Chief Rabbi, including myself and family.
Both in Israel, here in the UK, Other countries in Europe and in the US.
Just pointing this out for balance.

Milliband is technically not Jewish. His father was Jewish, but not his mother.

Furthermore, Milliband has described himself as atheist in the past.

I don’t trust him as far as I could throw him.

The Chief rabbi is a man of the people and knows what he is talking about. He is an intelligent and articulate scholar.

Yes, in fact both Miliband's parents were Jewish, his mother lost many members of her family in the Holocaust including her father.

His father served in the Royal Navy during WW2 as a Chief Petty Officer.

I should imagine that Ed Miliband found imposing sanctions on the Israeli Government a very difficult thing to do, particularly as his grandmother was given sanctuary there after the war.

That’s a very personal remark about another poster.I have seen some really offensive stuff from time to time on this forum and saying that Miliband’s Mum wasn’t Jewish ( I have no knowledge on that) may be wrong fact wise but isn’t offensive.

Fallingstar Wed 09-Sept-26 14:35:18

@Oreo

“ And of course there are many who do support Israel and agree with the Chief Rabbi, including myself and family.

Of course. We are just ordinary people afterall with differing opinions.

Casdon Wed 09-Sept-26 14:37:32

Offensive remarks, yes, but I’ve never seen somebody’s religious background and family questioned in that way before Oreo, it was a serious error of judgment on FGT2’s part to post it, and she needs to request it be taken down.

AGAA4 Wed 09-Sept-26 14:40:18

Oreo only your opinion. You can't tell others what they should or should not find offensive.

Oreo Wed 09-Sept-26 14:40:32

We are indeed Fallingstar but sometimes these differences need pointing out and there aren’t many Jewish posters on here ( there are a few who pm me but don’t say on the open forum that they are).😃

Oreo Wed 09-Sept-26 14:41:05

AGAA4

Oreo only your opinion. You can't tell others what they should or should not find offensive.

In that case neither can you!

LizzieDrip Wed 09-Sept-26 14:48:10

Apart from anything else, the statement made by FGT about Milliband’s mother is incorrect. His mother was Jewish.

AGAA4 Wed 09-Sept-26 14:55:59

Oreo I was concerned for FGT as I know she's not long been through a similar bad time that I went through with my DH and believe me you can feel really not right for a long time. I just thought it wasn't like her to post in that way.
I found the post offensive as did others. If you thought it was ok then that's your opinion as I said.

Oreo Wed 09-Sept-26 15:05:48

And we all have different opinions AGAA4 so if you find something offensive I can not find it offensive.
Lizziedrip has it right when she says it was ‘incorrect’.
Incorrect is a long way from offensive.

Oreo Wed 09-Sept-26 15:08:12

Plus it isn’t right to say you are ‘concerned’ about a poster when you happen to disagree with them, now I really do find that offensive.
A pleasant pm to them is the way to go and not plastering concern all over a public forum.

MawsRosie Wed 09-Sept-26 15:26:25

I thought David Milliband's speech was excellent and long overdue. I am also pleased that eleven other countries have also made similar decisions, on the same day! I heard Lord Levy being interviewed this evening and thought he added a very thoughtful commentary to the decision made by the Labour govt. This is not about antisemitism, it is about injustice to Palestinians being sanctioned by the current Israeli govt and hopefully, anyone with half a brain cell will recognise this
I agree, but NB it was his brother Ed Milliband who is Foreign Secretary, not David.

AGAA4 Wed 09-Sept-26 15:28:11

"plastering concern all over a public forum" . Methinks that is an exaggeration. You are not the moderators so are in no position to scold posters or advise on what they should be doing

.

AGAA4 Wed 09-Sept-26 15:29:15

That was for Oreo

foxie48 Wed 09-Sept-26 15:31:59

I have those all the time 🤣

greyfur16 Wed 09-Sept-26 15:51:25

Saying Palestinians don't want peace and its in their DNA is very offensive indeed.

The Milliband thing is just a side show.

TakeThat7 Wed 09-Sept-26 16:28:03

I'm glad David Milliband and Burnham have spoken out about the settlers in Gaza they have been destroying the homes of people in Gaza and taking their land for too long No way is it antisemitism it's anti extreme cruelty by the Israelis involved the cruelty should be highlighted and stopped by whatever way it can be
