Arguments with son and I don't know what to do?
I am thinking of switching my bank. Anyone done it?
Not really a scam or fraud, but I wasn't sure where else to put it.

I have just seen a report from BBC online that French students are striking and protesting in several places across France.
They are complaining about lack of teachers, conditions in school etc. Some have started fires outside school buildings.
Seems education is a victim of circumstances elsewhere not just UK

MawsRosie
Black person, is that the correct term?
No I don’t think it is.Well you tell me because the goal posts are forever changing.
Don't want to be accused of teaching a grandmother to suck eggs, but as you both are asking the questions so may not be aware:
The term 'black person" signifies a racial classification on physical characteristics like skin colour. It does not signify ethnicity or a nationality.
I posted before seeing your 20.47 post MT62- thanks for our update.
I have never used the term black person
Apologies for any confusion MawsRosie.
My post at 20.52 was in direct response to MT62's 20.40 post - confusion caused by using 'both' Its clear now on it was MT62 who posted "Black person is that the correct term"

I don’t in general but when the image appeared on my screen I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, & just described the person in the moment.
If it had of been someone white, I would have described that person as white guy! Sorry if it offended anyone.
So Mawsrosie if you were ever attacked by a person, said person was black, how would you describe that person to the police?

@ lemonjam I certainly didn’t ask any such question.
And MT62 if you mean no offence you should not use offensive language..

If you can be specific regarding a persons ethnic heritage eg “mixed race”, you should be so, but the expression “person of colour” is currently seen as acceptable
Now I thought that was one expression you can’t use today ‘ person of colour’.
I thought black people just want to be referred as that ‘black’.
Don’t they call it ‘ black lives matter’? They don’t say people of colour lives matter, do they?
Anyway what found more disturbing on here that not one person apart from oldfrill said how disturbing that video was, of the lady having her face burnt with a ready made blow torch. More bothered that I got someone’s ethnicity wrong, or lumped them all as one group.
Having seen the video I read "lovely people" as relating (cynically) to the violent student rioters in that video, it didn't occur to me, that in relation to the video, it was meant as a racist remark.
It's not derogatory to call a Black person Black, or a White person White. Person of Color (sic) will be old hat pretty soon, like BAME/BME.
Any videos anyone watched of all and any protesters wearing a mask/hood/ hiding their faces, using a weapon, operating in a group and causing injury/ fires/ burns are always disturbing- goes without saying.
There have been plenty of arrests.
I'd never seen a video where a 15 year old set fire to an aerosol spray and directed the huge flame directly into someone's face. I think it was the fact I knew he was 15 that made it much more shocking than those run of the mill videos you seem used to.
Anyone would find such a video of a 15 year old disturbing.
"Of Colour"
Is PC nonsense it describes nobody, a person is White, Black, Asian, Oriental maybe a few others, none are derogatory just a factual appearance.
Fot me, I hadn't seen the video when I replied, so had no idea if it were true. Of course it is disturbing.
Forgive me if my mind flashed back to my own experiences in France with the lawyer speaking about Africans, but that's how my brain worked initially.
By the way, in France these people are called Les Noirs or Les personnes Noires de France. That is the correct terminology.

It’s all gone quiet now but originally students were saying they were fed up with overcrowded classes due to the large number of immigrant kids in French schools.
I read that too.

Instead of condemning another poster for use of the wrong word describing an attacker why haven't you condemned the attacker MawsRosie

I think this thread is getting unnecessarily tetchy, and yes there has been mention of the above in French reports. Of course, it then appears for English speaking people, like posters here, to read.
However, a lot is being lost in translation, and unless you are familiar with the history and make-up of the Parisian banlieues then wording becomes misconstrued or twisted. I mentioned earlier that Créteil, where the riots started, has a population of 25% immigrants, and that teachers leave almost as soon as they arrive due to the challenges they face.
Immigrant pupils require far more support, which isn't forthcoming, so other pupils do inevitably attach some of this blame to the overcrowding in their own lycées.
Ce n'est pas compliqué to see how and why. That's your answer.

I didn’t see this on tv, I was working, sounds terrible! That poor woman.
Was the perpetrator a student?
Don’t worry MT62 and I would have used the word black too in describing him, and nobody wants to be referred to as a person of colour, black people prefer the word black to euphemisms…..as in Black Lives Matter.

Are you referring to me oldfrill.
I don’t watch violent videos.
It was a clip that just popped up & I was absolutely horrified, especially of the fireman being set on fire.
I presumed you had seen the clip.
I was being actually being sarcastic’ about the violent people being lovely people’ nothing to do with the ethnicity of a person.
I would say the exact same sentence if it was violent hooligans this country.
