I shudder at the thought. I really hope she was spared her father’s perverse proclivities. But unfortunately, if she did experience such horror you can bet your pension that certain members of Gransnet and Mumsnet will blame her or accuse her of lying on a pedophile for publicity.

The scariest part about people who sexually exploit children is that you can never truly know how many victims they have. The extent often dies in the dark because most don’t want to relive and rehash their childhood abuse. Family members are the easiest victims to abuse due to access and trust. Thomas Markle’s other children aren’t exactly upstanding citizens for the most part. It makes me wonder what damage was done behind closed doors to lead them down the paths they chose. So far we know at least 2 of his children want nothing much to do with him. That’s too much of a coincidence for me. Even without these particularly revolting accusations, he wouldn’t be a father I’d want around me in adulthood. Certainly wouldn’t allow him access to my children if I were Meghan or the others.

So it seems a letter in 2018 did exist?

This is what SKY News are reporting about the 2018 letter.

“The letter was sent to Meghan in the summer of 2018 after her wedding to Prince Harry in May that year.

It is understood the Metropolitan Police has not previously, nor is the force currently, investigating Mr Markle.

In addition, officers are conducting an internal inquiry to confirm if the 2018 letter was passed on by the royal protection unit.

Sky News understands it would be possible for a letter of this kind to be passed on as its contents could have implications for the couple's security.”

Let’s be very clear (as clear as the muddied waters I helped muddy!), I thought the Sun interviewed Markle Junior, and it is he who broke both the story and reported his father to the police.

All Meghan has done is issue a statement today, in response to the Sun publishing the brother’s story last night?

On the BBC: the MET stated they have not, and aren’t currently, investigating Markle senior. They are looking into claims of a letter shared with Meghan, as per her statement.

Even if she knew about the accusations, what exactly was she supposed to do?
Investigate them herself? Hire private investigators? Seize his phone? Demand his phone records? Publicly announce what was happening in an investigation by authorities and taint it? Then the hateful people, much like those finding fault in her in this matter, would have said they are slandering the wretched man for publicity.

Some of you are reaching so hard to find wrongdoing on her part here I’m surprised you all haven’t pulled a muscle.
She is not responsible for him. There is zero evidence she had actual evidence of his accused crimes, even if she were personally aware of the accusations.

If the accusations are true, this poor example of a father was so arrogant to court attention knowing he was committing the worst crimes against innocent children. I don’t care if he allegedly only viewed indecent images. Every part of the predator cycle contributes to life-long damage child victims will face. Sex tourism in the Philippines is a well-known and widespread issue. I’m sure like most predators he didn’t think he’d get caught.

I am confused. Didn’t she write a letter and an email to her father after she knew about this accusation The letter caused a court case. Saying she hasn’t had contact with her father because she knew…I don’t understand.

Likewise. I can’t give a timeline as this is constantly being updated. It’s gone worldwide apparently.
However, the Sun is leading with this. They were with junior when he signed a statement apparently. Pictures on the Sun.

The Daily Mail, on the other hand, have given articles from senior, the sister and, just now, the MET.

All this would have passed me by but for the awful weather and being a couch potato today!

So why did the Philippine Police write to the Met Police who then informed Meghan of what was happening in 2018?

No, these are two separate issues.
Meghan claims regarding the MET and a letter date from 2018 after her wedding. After she cut her father off because she didn’t want him at the wedding.
The MET have made a statement today saying they’re looking into this letter she claims to have received. They seem to be unaware of it.

Secondly, the boxes and images were found in July this year by junior after senior moved back to America. So he claims. Now after the uproar this has generated the Phillipines and the FBI are investigating. So far, he has not been arrested or charged.

Two separate but nevertheless confusing issues.

I think the 2018 thing from the Met police has nothing to do with the Philippines, I’m sorry I made the connection which wasn’t there.

So to be clear, this is what I understand, which may or may not be accurate.

2018 incident via our police, standalone and not connected with the Philippines.

New incident, connected with the Philippines happened sometime between Jan 2025 and Jul my 2026, it’s an unclear to me.

Easier on the oars. I understood that Mr Markle senior was already an old and sick man in 2018. And not living in the Philippines? These images could have been in their box for years and I suppose may not necessarily have belonged to him in the first place. Nor does it seem to be suggested that he made the images.
I think that if I’d been in Meghan’s situation I would have lain low too. Anyway I think it very understandable. It is nothing to do with her, though perhaps a bit odder that she saw fit to be so vocal about the shortcomings of her husband’s family.

It does all sound very strange and no, apparently Mr Markle did not move to the Philippines until 2025. Perhaps more facts may come to light as the investigation continues. It is taking an extraordinarily long time.

Even if Meghan was made aware in 2018, I don't see why it was up to her to make this public as these were allegations only.

If she was informed by the Met Police then the reason she has estranged her father and the children have not met him becomes clearer.

I’ve just read that senior supported junior financially for most of his life until July when he apparently found issues with his bank account. At that point he stopped bailing junior out. In July junior reported this find of boxes of images etc. the sister has corroborated this version of events.

Time will tell. At least the publicity will force law enforcement to investigate as there is such interest and outrage about this. If he is charged then we may know more.
