Bearded Lecturer - Wearing Large Fake Breasts

This was posted on MN a couple of days ago, but obviously the DM have picked the story up, well it's not the sort of thing The Guardian or The Independent report on.

Insane! An Oxford lecturer to all intents a physically, hairy geezer of a bloke publicly addresses his audience wearing giant fake breasts, it comes across as a taunt and somehow subliminally threatening. I mean what's he supposed to be, apart from gross??? Even the very feminine trans women such as Paris Lees might feel a certain amount of disquiet in hirsute men presenting as something they're clearly not. This individual is just so insulting in how he undermines women and makes a mockery of the female form. I gather some women are not happy and have written to St Hilda's over concerns that the hairy man's behaviour who would blend in well with ZZ Top, not that they pretended to be anything other than men, "violates women's dignity" and somehow his audience are expected to act as if his personal freak show is somehow normal. As yet the college have not acted on these complaints.

And the smirk in all the pictures!!! Inappropriate clothing for work even if he WERE a woman

At a time when wolf whistlers may be sanctioned, the behaviour by this man displays a different type of misogyny and very confrontational. Does it not occur to him how offensive his appearance must be to the women around him. Very ego driven so probably doesn't care.

I've Googled this person. His name is Matt Rattley, and apparently complaints about him looking like this while lecturing to (some very young) women have gone on for about a year, with no comment or action from the university apart from confirming 'professional standards and respect for students' are imperative, but that they cannot comment on individual cases!
I fear this person is on a self-publicity binge, and cares not a bit about their students' feelings. This surely must have a detrimental effect on their work - my heart goes out to them.

Definitely something not right there.

Could you please attach a link to the article and/or picture, please? It's a bit hard to comment without seeing either...

Sorry, petra, our posts crossed!

He’s a man who disrespects females. Just like TW, but without a frock to go with his . . .

Grandmabatty Sat 31-Oct-26 16:00:42

I have been reading about this individual for some time. It is a fetish and the university are going along with it. It's about power. Completely inappropriate. If a woman was to go to her work like that, there would be consequences.

AGAA4 Sat 31-Oct-26 16:04:14

Hopefully parents will complain and they will be forced to do something.
The man is an offensive joke.

But he is in a frock, and lipstick and nail polish, along with his long wispy beard and fast vanishing hair. And the giant fake boobs tucked into his low neckline frock.
I think all the students should attend his lecture and laugh at him.

Allsorts Sat 31-Oct-26 16:34:26

He should be in an asylum. What is the matter with the spineless University? All the students should attend the lecture and all then walk out. Parents should write objecting.

Oreo Sat 31-Oct-26 16:36:07

Universities are frightened to death of being called transphobic and this bozo is playing to the gallery.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 31-Oct-26 16:42:31

Just another example of a woman hating man, they are crawling out from their caves at an alarming rate.

Why are universities and other work places accommodating these individuals, could it be a way to undermine women…

Tworedroses Sat 31-Oct-26 16:50:06

He is an utter pervert. He should be locked up never mind teaching at Oxford. This country is a joke. 🤬

Chestnut Sat 31-Oct-26 17:01:18

I agree with all the above comments (naturally) and with the guy who runs the website. Just awful and beyond disgusting. Oxford is allowing their University to be an international laughing stock.

The students or their parents should be up in arms. As he said, they pay a fortune to go to Oxford, only to be faced with this nonsense. What is wrong with them allowing this to continue? I would be staging a walk-out to show the college this freak show is unacceptable.

This is Oxford university the students are adults, the parents have no sway.

Couldn’t agree more

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 31-Oct-26 17:08:35

I wouldn’t mind betting the students (some anyway) are wary of complaining.

There’s a time and a place mate to ‘get them out for the boys’ and a schoolroom isn’t one of them.

As my mother would’ve said ‘it’s not big and it’s not clever’.

Ach, he wants the attention. Bet a woman would’ve been told to show less cleavage in the workplace. I think he’s disgusting.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 31-Oct-26 17:10:34

To be honest he belongs in a circus as ‘the bearded lady’.
Roll up folks.

TerriBull Sat 31-Oct-26 17:24:57

Yes I agree it's up to the students themselves to complain in a university setting, although I did read somewhere he taught A level students, maybe in normal attire. Presenting himself as a quasi half woman half man is clearly some sort of fetish on his part. It's hard to believe that this could be allowed in the workplace it's simply unacceptable at a time when there is a supposed drive to stop hatred against women which at times comes across as somewhat selective imo.

Like many on here MN is often the place to go to find out just what so many women have to put up with, mainly a younger demographic who are out in the cut and thrust so their perspective is possibly different from ours. Another current thread along with this matter, is a woman who was attending an event in Brighton, queuing for the women's loos, a long one, in that line were four trans women, needless to say no queue for the men's where they easily could have gone, rather proving they're just being difficult and provocative knowing they're not supposed to go into women only spaces. The poster had her child with her so didn't want to get herself into a situation. I'm wondering what difference in real life has the ruling had on those determined to flout it. I've read of situations in the NHS, in the aftermath of it being passed, where staff have been told "use the facilities you feel most comfortable with" Comfortable for them means the opposite for women who do not wish to be put in potentially uncomfortable situations.

surfsup Sat 31-Oct-26 17:27:12

It’s sexual fetish and it’s disgraceful that Oxford allow this.

MollyNew Sat 31-Oct-26 17:30:18

I'm all for "live and let live" but this is ridiculous. How can this individual expect to be taken seriously as an academic? He is not dressed appropriately for a learning environment. As FGT2 says, it is attention seeking and the University should have a word with him, surely they have a dress code for staff?
