What I think will happen tomorrow

That the SNP will do well
That Labour in Wales will do well
That Laurence Fox and Shaun Bailey will be humiliated in London
That my local council will stay LD
That Labour will hang onto its Mayors and do badly elsewhere

This is not a difficult prediction

GrannyGravy13 Wed 05-May-21 21:20:18

The turn out will be low.

Doodledog Wed 05-May-21 21:22:10

I don't know about suziewoozie's local council, but otherwise I predict that she is right, and will add that, for reasons I can never fathom, my local council will stay Tory.

Alegrias1 Wed 05-May-21 21:25:21

Sounds pretty likely to me. Although I have never heard of Shaun Bailey.

Should I be embarrassed?

Urmstongran Wed 05-May-21 21:28:01

Hartlepool will turn Tory.
The SNP will romp it.
As will Sadiq Khan.

maddyone Wed 05-May-21 21:29:20

I don’t know who Shaun Bailey is either. We’ll have to be embarrassed together Alegrias.

Doodledog Wed 05-May-21 21:36:49

The SNP might not romp it. There is the new Alba party to consider. I think there will be a pro-independence alliance, though.

Urmstongran Wed 05-May-21 21:37:12

He is the Tory candidate up against Sadiq Khan for Mayor of London.

Regards Labour.
The people aren't abandoning Labour, its Labour who have abandoned them. If you are a white, able-bodied heterosexual you may as well be invisible. If you like your country you have no place in the Labour movement. Same if you respect our Armed Forces, voted Leave, think gender is a biological fact rather than a state of mind, aren't ashamed of our history and rather like the idea of deporting foreign rapists and murderers.

Labour have become the vehicle for every woke crackpot movement in the country and as a result they no longer resonate with the more properly adjusted working classes who are less concerned about taking a knee than jobs, good schools and safe streets.

Labour needs a clear out if they are to survive. Time to get back to their roots.

Alegrias1 Wed 05-May-21 21:40:53

Thanks "Urmstongran". maddyone ?

If Alba make any headway I'll eat my hat. Alex maybe, not much more.

I haven’t heard anything about “ social distancing”. Think I read something about “take your own pencil” but not recently
Anyone else heard anything. I think that points to a low turn out.

MerylStreep Wed 05-May-21 21:49:05

Urmstongran
For all the reasons you’ve given I hope they are crushed. They hate everything we stand for.

Ilovecheese Wed 05-May-21 21:49:26

Andy Burnam will be returned as Greater Manchester mayor.

Devorgilla Wed 05-May-21 21:57:08

There was a massive campaign to return a postal vote so, if more people did that, the turnout will be lower. Yes, you are encouraged to take your own pencil, but pens are also allowed now.
I can't really see that social distancing will loom large as I have never, in my entire voting life, been in an overcrowded polling station.
Even if Labour does not make great gains I am rooting for Keir to hang in as leader as I do not believe the pandemic has given him a fair shot at leadership. Now that everything is opening up again I think we will see a much stronger campaign. And Boris can't dine out on the vaccine roll out and Brexit forever.

Gannygangan Wed 05-May-21 22:01:39

I didn't know who Shaun was either.

I'm sure turn out will be low, whatever the weather.

People seem convinced that Hartlepool will turn blue but polls are often wrong.

SNP will do well I would have thought. Despite murmurings in some media outlets that they might not.

suziewoozie Wed 05-May-21 22:15:09

What is turnout like in Scottish Parliament elections normally?

MaizieD Wed 05-May-21 22:18:34

Labour have become the vehicle for every woke crackpot movement in the country and as a result they no longer resonate with the more properly adjusted working classes who are less concerned about taking a knee than jobs, good schools and safe streets.

Good Lord, Ug, whatever are you smoking?

I know a fair few Labour voters and I've yet to meet any who fit your fantasy.

suziewoozie Wed 05-May-21 22:18:42

In my council elections turn out varies between wards between late 30s and early 50s % . I think that might be on the high side?

Urmstongran Wed 05-May-21 22:32:24

Bristol, as an example MaizieD. Labour majority. Labour mayor. Statue toppling. Many others.

Alegrias1 Wed 05-May-21 22:35:09

Last time it was about 55% suzie

suziewoozie Wed 05-May-21 22:36:27

I only know who Shaun is because I live so near London. He really is hopeless

AmberSpyglass Wed 05-May-21 22:39:40

I find Labour to be right of centre, wishy washy and they’ve abandoned any sense of progressiveness. As a queer socialist, I wouldn’t dream of voting for them anymore unless it was tactically - luckily that’s not an issue in Scotland.

AmberSpyglass Wed 05-May-21 22:40:15

In fact, most of the woke crackpot movements I’m involved with wouldn’t be seen dead voting Labour!

suziewoozie Wed 05-May-21 22:41:17

55% ? Is that all ? Anyone know of any studies on turnout and whether non voters are different from voters ( other than not voting of course). I think age is definitely relevant isn’t it?

What a load of tosh.

I do think they have people who take some things to extreme but there is a lot of TNP talk in that post and it's not as if the Tories don't have their extremist is it.
