Click on the picture to hear his words. I am confused. Johnson is saying that Membership of the EU will be good for Ukraine. James O'brien is discussing this on LBC just now so perhaps someone will phone in to explain Johnson's thinking.

I bet O’Brien’s in his element.
I’ve been trying to cut down on LBC, but I’ve just switched it on

Fleurpepper Fri 03-Feb-23 10:36:20

he is just unbelievable!

Wyllow3 Fri 03-Feb-23 10:37:54

Oh, good for Ukraine but not for us? angry

BJ should out his brain in gear before opening mouth.
Its just more self aggrandisement, its not his place!

FannyCornforth Fri 03-Feb-23 10:38:39

Ooh! He’s got a ‘leave him alone, he’s doing his best’ caller on 🙄

Whitewavemark2 Fri 03-Feb-23 10:40:55

Idiot.

The EU has shuttled back on Ukraines membership and has let it be known to Zelensky that they are cooling.

Is this Johnson thinking he has some clout? If I was Zelensky I would not welcome Johnson’s interference.

WW I read somewhere yesterday that Zelenskyy said that Johnson should not be PM again

There is a meeting in Kyiv today of all the EU leaders and President Zelensky.

Unfortunately Ukraine still has plenty of oligarchs and too corrupt to join the EU in the near future.

Yes

I read that Zelensky is working on this. There's been a whole slew of sackings and 'resignations' recently.

In the Guardian yesterday, I think....

ExperiencedNotOld Fri 03-Feb-23 12:08:27

Joining the EU was an aim held before the war, and would only be of benefit AFTER it was over
Membership of NATO is what’s really desired, but that won’t happen either as the ramifications on existing members would be too great to bear.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 03-Feb-23 12:08:56

Yes, the head of tax has been found guilty of corruption I think.

Riverwalk Fri 03-Feb-23 12:10:08

I imagine Zelensky was obliged to do that by Western financial donors - a serious amount of money is going into the country and they don't want it embezzled. No doubt that will be another scandal for the future - along the lines of Iraq.

Grantanow Fri 03-Feb-23 12:32:18

Grandstanding. He should lose the Tory whip. He knows it would take some 10 years to process Ukraine - there are others in the queue, the EU would face massive reconstruction costs for Ukraine and poorer countries like Portugal would become net contributors rather than beneficiaries. He's on manoeuvres.

A man to be watched. I always think about how his brother Joe got out of the Government when he came to be P.M. may be afraid of being accused of nepotism or maybe knows something the wider public doesn't.

Parsley3 Fri 03-Feb-23 12:51:55

It seems to me to be the efforts of a desperate man to get back into the public eye.

Casdon Fri 03-Feb-23 13:30:32

He’s beginning to remind me of Katie Price, increasingly desperate steps to keep his profile in the media lest we forget. As if.

MaizieD Fri 03-Feb-23 13:44:17

Not a peep about this on the BBC?

Parsley3 Fri 03-Feb-23 13:48:12

James O'brien did say that it is not being reported and I could only find the clip I posted. It may only become an issue if Johnson tries to come back as Mr GotBrexitDone at the next General Election.

NannyJan53 Fri 03-Feb-23 13:48:21

You really couldn't make it up could you! I think he just wings it from day to day

MaizieD Fri 03-Feb-23 13:49:59

Not a peep about this on the BBC?

Or in the right wing media...

I've just searched for it...

Was happy to accept a peerage from his brother though.

I'd forgotten this gem - remember when Bozzer wanted Turkey to join the EU?

Seems extraordinary now, and a reminder how this political chancer changed sides to bolster his own career.

Just in case you didn't know:
