Let's start a blitz on bad grammar - nationwide

How about 'you know' at the end of every sentence? No, I don't know, presumably that is why I am being told.

And the one that really depresses me is different to - "No, different FROM" I shout at the radio several times a day!

And where did the use of 'mine' and 'yours' to denote homes come from. As in "shall we have coffee at mine or yours?"

The problem seems to start in schools with teachers ignoring basic grammar and punctuation and concentrating on"the content" of essays. I'm sorry if I offend any teachers (or ex teachers) but surely emphasis needs to be put on the importance of grammar and punctuation at an early age? There is a shop in my town that offers "Euro's at an unbeatable rate" and I couldn't resist going in and asking what the euro was offering. I might as well have been speaking a foreign language, and even after I had explained about the apostrophe I still felt that my pearls of wisdom had fallen on incredibly stoney ground!

Me too, not a day goes by without less being substituted for fewer. Very soon it will disappear altogether. And what about alright instead of all right!

I mourn the death of the adverb and the 'or not' in whether or not, To me the sentence always sounds unfinished

the one that really makes me mad is use of 'less' for 'fewer' as in newsreaders (and anyone else) who say less police, less friends, (the supermarket) 'less than 10 items' errrgh!!

Misuse of the expression "to pressurise someone", rather than "to pressure someone" (ie into doing something). To pressurise means to insert a bicycle pump into an orifice, and inflate.....ouch!

...and how about, "I'll give you a bell...(telephone call)

What about 'for free' and what is an 'invite'?

If I get one more card with 'thankyou' (one word) written on it I may actually vomit on the sender.

...and then there is the constant use of the word "like"...And she said, like, so I thought, like, it was, like...I may have to scream, like!!!

Despairing...do not forget "heads up", as in "give you a heads up".

Oh What Joy! A pedants' corner. (Note correct use of apostrophe) I think we are an endangered species - but can be Grumpy Old Grannies with much relish on this site. Look forward to it.

I think they say 'sikth' instead of sixth.

And what about people who say 'can I get' rather than 'can I have' or 'may I have' or even 'two [insert desired item] please' when ordering coffee, sandwiches etc?

Ah, there will be so much to add to this thread! Although my personal hatred is for 'yeah?' on the end of every statement

Have to say though, I've never heard anyone on tv say 'sith' - will be paying close attention tonight now!
