Watched George Clarke in Amazing Spaces, he said of a house in Canada " It's very unique "
No George it's either unique or it isn't, there are no shades of this.

grin

He should have settled for unusual.

kittylester Mon 02-Jan-17 18:29:43

I'm always shouting at the telly about it. Very unique, almost unique, totally unique, more or less unique!angry

Antonia Mon 02-Jan-17 19:07:39

Exactly. It is either unique or it isn't. And I am unanimous in this!

tchgrin DH is always shouting at tv about unique , it seems to be the only thing he is pedantic about.I just sing 'Let It Go' at him.

Christinefrance Mon 02-Jan-17 19:46:34

No rosesarered your husband is right , it is so irritating.

SueDonim Mon 02-Jan-17 20:41:33

'One of the only...' always annoys me. It's either 'the only' or 'one of only two/five/nineteen'.

Return back - grrrrrr. .......

Indinana Mon 02-Jan-17 23:27:34

I bought a box of drawstring teabags once. It stated on the box that it contained 80 unique drawstring teabags grin grin grin

ninathenana Mon 02-Jan-17 23:36:28

Uniquely different. angry

moobox Tue 03-Jan-17 10:24:10

Let's have less moans on here. Who said that? Should have been fewer - like at Morrisons - should be 10 items or fewer - grrrr

grabba Tue 03-Jan-17 10:25:10

I get annoyed when supposedly educated people use this expression too.

Skweek1 Tue 03-Jan-17 10:27:26

Hold on, Indinana - when you've removed 30 equally unique drawstring teabags from the box, that is surely a breach of the trade description act in that there aren't 80 bags in there. If I were you, I would complain to the manufacturers that you found one which was less unique than the others!

Lilyflower Tue 03-Jan-17 10:30:11

Like being a bit dead or qquite pregnant!

Lilyflower Tue 03-Jan-17 10:30:26

Quite not qquite!

Galen Tue 03-Jan-17 10:50:36

We had a night sister at one hospital who if she said ' someone looks a bit poorly' had to be interpreted as meaning they were in cardiac arrest!

goose1964 Tue 03-Jan-17 11:01:06

it's often used instead of individual

amt101 Tue 03-Jan-17 11:09:09

I get so cross at nucular instead of nuclear and furoreeee instead of furore.

Tudorrose Tue 03-Jan-17 11:19:48

This is my all time pet hate. I am surprised how many, presumably well educated, TV presenters qualify unique. My DH says he wishes that was the only thing on TV which annoys him. He likes about 1% of programmes

grandMattie Tue 03-Jan-17 11:20:37

And - fairly sterile [for germs]
Discrete and discreet?
"Each one to be identical" [to what???]
Grrr....

Lincsblue Tue 03-Jan-17 12:04:10

I get annoyed at 'This is my best friend, and this is my other best friend'

Marnie Tue 03-Jan-17 12:24:29

My bugbear is Almost Exactly. It is either exactly or not

marionk Tue 03-Jan-17 12:27:33

110% anybody??? Percent indicates 100 surely so any number above this is rubbish, rant rant

Madmartha Tue 03-Jan-17 13:01:37

shtudents gets me going every time, and it's not even people with lisps

sue01 Tue 03-Jan-17 13:02:11

My absolute hate is ... arrrgggh I don't know if I can even bring myself to write it.... OK, here goes.....

"wrap up warm "

I simply cannot bear it !

It's an adverb for goodness sake! And the main culprits are the weather men and women on the BBC !!
