It is odd how we have to complicate things. I react every time I hear 'showcase'. It's no longer "we need to show...". It is "we need to showcase..."Why?

As a slight deviation, Carol Kirkwood , the weather lady on Breakfast tv always says , the evening period or the morning period. Why can she not say just the morning or evening. The use of period is unnecessary.

Think of all the Christmassy words that rhyme with time. Well rhyme for a start or rime.
Pantomime
Frosty clime
Misteltoe and wine.......?

Never Autumn time.

lemongrove Mon 11-Dec-17 16:01:07

I don’t think we say Winter time do we? Although...Spring time?

I loved that song in the Summer time (Mungo Jerry) wasn’t it late 60’s? Dah dah dah da dah etc.

Baggs Mon 11-Dec-17 15:57:27

Oh well, if it's to make a song fit a tune, that's different! grin ??

Do we have magazine articles on, "How to get your feet in trim for summer time"? How about if the cookery programmes promoted, "Winter time warmers"? It doesn't sound right either.

Or is that different from, "Summer time, when the living is eeeeaasy"?

In the summer time.....Mungo Jerry song from the early 70s.

Baggs Mon 11-Dec-17 13:32:34

No, I don't remember Mungo Jerry. I've never heard of Mungo Jerry. Should I have?

Alima Mon 11-Dec-17 13:12:43

Think it’s been like that for years. Remember Mungo Jerry?

Why are people saying wintertime instead of just winter? There's an example on Gransnet: a thread about living a happier healthier winter, but it seems we need to be told it's winter time.

Do we?
