What phrases/sayings/words drive you mad? Mine are:

No problem
At the end of the day
Can't get my head around it
Showcasing (eg. she's showcasing her slim figure/dress/new style)

Can I get ..... instead of please may I have
On-trend .... really sets my teeth on edge

Sheilasue Thu 24-Jan-19 10:58:35

Lessons have been learned, that makes me so angry.
Don’t know if this applies but people sending you text where it’s all abrivated. I like to text the way I was learnt to write and spell.
Also my pet hate is: if you get my drift. I am guilty sometimes of saying it.

What about “ we are pregnant “? Drives me mad. She is pregnant , can’t be we are ( unless lesbian I suppose)

Here's another one - everything is 'Amazing!'
also 'My bad' my bad what - breath?

Shelagh6 Thu 24-Jan-19 11:12:39

Almost all of the! But especially:
‘Didn’t use to’ - it’s ‘use not to’
Like, like, like
Passed - it’s ‘dead’

But I am so annoyed by ‘have a nice day’ to want to shout....

I had occasion to ring some huge institution the other day and the young person kept saying 'that's absolutely fine' when it patently wasn't! And starting every sentence with "So...". Grrrr!

Mapleleaf Thu 24-Jan-19 11:15:26

Level playing field
It ticks all the boxes
Starting sentences with “so”
“Y’know”, “like” interspersed throughout a sentence
“I’m not being funny, but...”
“At the end of the day”
“”At this moment in time”

I’m sure there are many more, but that’s a few to be going on with!

I was once visited by a financial advisor who could NOT stop saying: "going forward". Happily for her, I do not live in Trump's America, so did not have easy access to a gun.

He was sat
Can I get...?
Passed (for passed on/away or died)
Plus (instead of also)
So - to begin a sentence

Oh and heard last night.....new innovation!

Ngaio1 Thu 24-Jan-19 11:20:36

Basically.
Registry Office instead of Register Office.
Sick to my stomach - you would hardly feel sick to your elbow!
Overly.
Hun.
Hubby.
Me and my ....... are going

TV documentaries where the presenter says " I want to find out ", I am assuming he/she already knows as they have produced a programme on the basis of having the knowledge. DH and I counted the number of times the presenter said it the other evening and it was seven times in the first five minutes.

Another one that annoys me is " coming up " before the advert break and then a recap after the advert break, I am capable of remembering for a few minutes. If they cut out the drivel they could show programmes in half the time.

Craftycat Thu 24-Jan-19 11:21:55

Starting a sentence with 'So'
Passed not died

gulligranny Thu 24-Jan-19 11:23:17

I am with Granny27 - bloody Haitch!

Deceiving instead of Deceptive

And, like Mapleleaf above, starting sentences with So

Ngaio1 Thu 24-Jan-19 11:24:34

I, personally or Personally, I- tautology.
Almost or nearly unique - item or name is either unique or not!
burglarized???

GrannyMosh Thu 24-Jan-19 11:25:10

"This is it" when people agree with you. One culprit I know uses it almost every other sentence!
"It is what it is". Really?

pita Thu 24-Jan-19 11:28:53

When I hear people say 'same exact' it grates like nails on a chalk board.

kackie Thu 24-Jan-19 11:31:22

Going on a journey!!!!!!!!

Cambia Thu 24-Jan-19 11:37:43

Back in the day
Bless

Esmerelda Thu 24-Jan-19 11:48:53

"To be perfectly honest" or "To be perfectly honest with you" ... which implies that the speaker is not honest the rest of the time. The same goes with "frank". Grrr!

farview Thu 24-Jan-19 11:50:47

Being told to...Wrap up warm by weather forecasters.....back goes the sundress into the wardrobe

Chino Thu 24-Jan-19 11:54:38

I hate the expression 'you guy's but my family can't understand why

missdeke Thu 24-Jan-19 11:56:18

So glad I'm not the only one with 'we are pregnant' on the list!

Myself when it should be me

The propensity for making new words instead of using the proper phrase, e.g. Brexit or Grexit.

knspol Thu 24-Jan-19 11:59:00

It is what it is.
'Myself' instead of 'me' or 'my'.
Sentences starting with so.
'Literally' wrongly used.
'Of' instead of 'have' eg 'I should of...'
So many others!

cheshiresmile25 Thu 24-Jan-19 12:02:21

Going forward
Don’t laugh.....
This will make you laugh......
I dread the laugh ones because there’s an expectation you’ll have to laugh whatever!
Wait up
Hi guys
