‘I WOULD SAY’! It’s just so silly.

This phrase really annoys me! They could just say what they wanted instead of using this ridiculous phrase. To me, it’s like ‘squaring the circle’ (impossible)!

Are there any phrases that other find equally irritating. I’d like to put them in Room 101 but that’s a different thread!

My nerves grate when I hear young folk having a conversation and every other word is LIKE.

I heard a radio dj say yesterday. On air. Sorry can't remember her name but she said. 'That was so funny my ribs are literally splitting'.

Not a phrase, but the current, increasing habit of beginning a sentence with "So..."
No matter who it is, I switch off at that point.

'I, myelf',' 'at this moment in time' asked a question 'so.....blah blah' - can we not just start the answer?

helgawills, perhaps we had the same English teacher? I can still 54 years later hear Mrs Jones saying to a girl who said "at this moment of time" "what you mean, dear, is NOW, please don't talk like a politician"

'See you later'.

Son in law no. 2 said this to us as he left on the first occasion our daughter had brought him home to our house.

'Oh, will you be back later?', I enquired, to which he looked genuinely puzzled and gently explained that he would not.

We parted, me being thoroughly confused and sure that I had heard him correctly and he thinking I was an out of date old biddy!

I want to spontaneously combust when a sales assistant says to me 'Are you all right?' when I arrive at the cash till to pay for something.....

I want to shout 'No! my feet hurt, I haven't done my tax return and it's going to rain tomorrow! Aaaargh!'

The people who say My Bad on the TV (never heard it in real life) seem to be uncomfortable as if they are forcing themselves to say it. Dreadful.

Jean Ainsworth. I would say suggests an if or a but. Actually they are going to make a statement about something. What’s wrong with I think or I believe without the preface? It’s just nonsense.

It's just another way of making themselves sound interesting, intelligent etc. There’s just no need.

I like My Bad, it makes me laugh smile

Eloethan Wed 20-May-20 15:44:07

"My bad" is just awful.
"with the greatest respect" usually means quite the opposite

sazz1 Wed 20-May-20 16:27:00

Lessons will be learned
They never are

lilydily9 Wed 20-May-20 16:32:47

When someone ends a comment with 'just saying'. Yeah, we know that, you just said it!

Conni7 Wed 20-May-20 17:03:25

Never heard of my bad. I'm good, like, myself and ??, bored of, haitch, can I get, do you want it to go?, at this moment in time, fantastic.

FarNorth Wed 20-May-20 17:22:06

"entitled" being used to mean self-centred / selfish - confused

cas58 Wed 20-May-20 17:26:35

My worst is when people say obviously. No, it isn't.

I'll tell ya for why - well that just make me laugh! It's hilarious.

I think the laters comes from 50 Shades of Grey. He said that to the girl.

My bad - yes you are, now off with your head!

Artdecogran Wed 20-May-20 17:34:44

So, to sum up, it is what it is, my bad for literally screwing up.

Kim19 Wed 20-May-20 18:08:55

Try responding with 'I'm glad to hear that' when someone says 'no problem'. I've experienced many interesting responses but mostly one of confusion.

Nannee49 Wed 20-May-20 18:09:42

At the moment it's got to be "we're following the science" when "the science" changes daily...masks, no masks...and makes no logical sense whatsoever...cleaners not nans etc etc

Fennel Wed 20-May-20 18:17:59

Most of those - plus
right now - which is so obviously from the USA.
Why not just Now?
Or maybe currently, but not at this moment in time

pollyperkins Wed 20-May-20 18:33:29

‘Im nor being funny but...’ they usually are!

OmaforMaya Wed 20-May-20 19:14:07

I hate that too starting an answer with 'so'. Also using the word 'like' several times in the middle of a sentence or conversation. Young people do this all the time. ie "where do you go to college?" Answer: "So I like ...go to ???."They are all clones of each other ...no individuality amongst the youth today. They look the same and they sound the same. confused

Artdecogran Wed 20-May-20 19:15:35

‘I’m not racist...but...’ they the go on to be blatantly racist or homophobic or whatever else it is they have said their not.

Artdecogran Wed 20-May-20 19:16:27

They’re not ohh autocorrect ?

Jellybean345 Wed 20-May-20 19:48:14

The answer ‘I’m not bothered ‘If asked what they need or want .
Is that a yay or a nay ??
