I saw "double jabber" in the title of one of the threads this morning and seriously thought it was about Boris Johnson and his ever growing family. ??

???

Thanks for that - I’ve now got coffee all down my clean top! grin

I don’t much care what terms people use. I quite like anti-vaxx. You don’t often get to type two ‘X’s in life!

winterwhite Mon 02-Aug-21 13:40:44

That was uncalled for, Kamiso.

JaneJudge Mon 02-Aug-21 12:26:29

Yes I find it annoying too and more annoyingly I've found myself bloody saying it

Kamiso Mon 02-Aug-21 12:25:00

Really can’t get my knickers* in a twist over nothing much at all. As long as I know what they mean. I accept that we are all different and had very different educational experiences.

I would hate to make others feel awkward or shamed into not posting because of pedantics.

I often wonder if the pedants are trying to cover up low self esteem by nitpicking at those they consider to be inferior?

*I haven’t actually worn any knickers since my vulvectomy and nerve damage nearly twenty years ago.

The word jab in lieu of vaccination is irritating enough but now ' double jabber' has crept into daily speech. Does anyone else find this annoying

nope

Xpost with your comment winterwhite ?

Tbh I have adopted the “double vaxxed” description and quite like it. Jab (or the North-of-the-Border jag) is also less fussy to say than vaccination or inoculation. It’s a new vocabulary for our new pandemic age. Double jabber sounds like the person administering the jab twice, so should be jabee, surely? Or double jabbed at least. Nothing wrong with new words.

winterwhite Mon 02-Aug-21 11:09:33

'Double jabber' ought literally to mean the one who gives the jabs, surely? This has been invented by newspaper subeditors.

Alegrias1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:58:47

How common.

Imagine being Scottish and using our own words for things hmm

Luckygirl Mon 02-Aug-21 09:56:08

Jab is bad enough ....... Nicola Sturgeon sag "jag"!

Pammie1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:12:53

@Alegrias1 I will forevermore think of Boris as ‘double jabber’. Appropriate in more ways than one I think !!

Alegrias1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:09:34

No worries Pammie1 I now quite like the various variations on my username ?

Pammie1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:08:18

Bloody Autocorrect - I meant Algrias1. Anyone know what ‘Algeria’s are ???!!!

Thanks Algerias - just choked on my weetabix reading that !!?

Pammie1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:05:23

@MawBe. I quite like ‘Anti Vaxx’ too and autocorrect has come up with some hilarious substitutes.

Pammie1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:04:29

It’s a bit irritating, but I suppose whatever works to encourage more people to be vaccinated, is to be embraced.

MawBe Mon 02-Aug-21 09:02:57

On the other hand, I rather like the “Anti-Vaxx” neologism even if my autocorrect insists I mean Vauxhall grin
