Superficiality?

I think there's a good mix of serious and light hearted threads.

I find that there are few posts that interest me but we are all different in our passions, likes and dislikes. There are some threads I do enjoy and others I just ignore!

Although I read many of the more serious threads, they often get very heated; too much for my liking, so I tend not to jump in.

I come here for lighter chat and entertainment, as well as a moan every once in a while.

Perhaps if you start some serious threads, CountessFosco, you might get some serious answers.

I think did give a serious answer on your Snoring thread, I think, although it was rather startling to read the heading.

A Philosophy forum was suggested but never appeared.

We've often had interesting threads over the years on philosophy, religion, education, and many other serious subjects.
Just start them.

I mostly agree, CountessFosco. Most of it is superficial, and if it's serious, it ends up in an argument with personal insults getting slung around.

A shame. This site is a great resource, but at times, it's like being at school.

Things are quiet at present. What do you have in mind? Start a thread!

Personal insults are so boring

As are derailing threads by people pushing their own agenda on to them because they don't understand boundaries and think themselves too special and important to respect them

I'm sure some of my more frivolous comments aren't always appreciated, but what harm does a little lightning the mood do? I am VERY serious about décor, fine foods, animals ? (and the environment).
I would be nothing other than serious if a poster were suffering or discussing major tragedies,(Ukraine, floods, fires etc.) A time, a place.
Personal indults are definitely the death of many interesting threads.

Do you mean serious as in discussing weighty topics with facts and figures, in depth reviews etc., or do you mean serious as in people baring their souls CountessFosco?

Yes, there is. What is a serious matter causing distress, perhaps sleepless nights, and anxiety to one person might seem mundane, trivial and nothing to make a fuss about to others. This makes us who we are, individuals with varying strengths and weaknesses experiences the highs and lows that life throws at us. Perish the though that we might be the be the source of superficial nonsense!

It could end in divorce (or worse).

Exactly Polly what's serious to one may not be serious to another and with so many threads to choose from, if there's anything you don't like or agree with, you don't have to participate.
