Yet again I’ve just heard this pronounced ‘nucular’ - by a tv reporter. Why is it that so many seem incapable of pronouncing the word correctly?

I think aluminum was the original name given to the metal by Humphrey Davy, but he later referred to it as aluminium. The former became the official USA spelling and pronunciation while "English English" speakers use aluminium.

A lot of metals end in "ium", so maybe that is why aluminium was changed to fit in with the rest. The rest of us who would claim to speak British English say "aluminium" too, not just the English.

I feel sorry for all those poor souls suffering from Arthuritis.

What about those who suffer from chickenpox (they caught them at school) or have to have their appendix out (all of them)?

I cringe if a Countdown contestant says constonant for consonant.

And 'julery' instead of 'jewellery'. Can't they see there's a 'w' in there?

We are getting closer and closer, by the day, to a possible nuclear war, And all you think about is how it is pronounced? Really?

Oh yes, because we say 'Warwick' with a 'w' in the middle, of course. Most 'w's are not pronounced. Should we say 'Knee' with a ke, because there is a 'k'!

The one that annoys me is Alexander Armstrong on Pointless who always says 'geography' as 'joggraphy'. The 'geo' prefix has a meaning!

Sickth instead of sixth is my ‘favourite’.

And Bark instead of Bach - which I’ve heard more than once on the radio from people who really ought to know better.
