I’ve heard it twice now - I hope I’m not the only one to be 😱!
One simply doesn’t expect it from Waitrose, does one? 😉

If it was for Aldi, one might find it more believable. smile

Pass me the smelling salts 😲

You've upset Kevin the Carrot now.

Georgesgran Mon 21-Oct-24 15:10:08

Yes, yes, yes Witzend. I thought it was me and I’d been saying it incorrectly all these years.
Seriously though, it really grates.

Remember the old Glaswegian teachers' joke?

"Please, miss, the bell has went."

"No, it hasn't, Wullie."

"It has so, miss,"

"No, you can't say the bell has went. The bell has gone."

"Where the goodness did it go to, miss?"

Or Asda. I still haven’t entirely recovered from seeing a printed sign about a special offer for New Zeeland Chedder. Being a pedant can be woefully hard on the blood pressure.

You should try being a pedent like someone in the YouTube comments, it might make life easier. They were complaining about someone else's spelling and noted that it was hard being a bit of a pedent... 😄

🤣 Talking of Waitrose, there was a security guard- type who used to try un-obtrusively ( very badly!!) to follow me around our local Waitrose.
I'm not the shoplifting sort (#obviously!) but he had decided I fitted the brief!!!! My children tell me it was down to my unique dress sense! Whatever that means!!!🥳🤡🙈

Were you wearing a voluminous dress with lots of large pockets? 😁

The Range opened a new store near me and I visited for the first time this morning.
I won't be going back if I can help it. In the entrance there were Christmas decorations. The sign beside Father Christmas in his sleigh read Santa Clause in his sleigh.
I'm afraid that I made several people smile at my indignation.

You should have bought a bottle of Tippex and applied it.

Could have been worse:
Santa Clause in his slay.

I've been closely followed round Waitrose because I have a big old-skool wicker shopping trolley and I load my potential purchases into there before going to the till, rather than park the thing and take a trolley. The chap seemed very disappointed that I paid for every item!

The elves are of course subordinate clauses..

Well, in a world where Marks and Spencer no longer use the word lingerie, but have a large sign saying knickers, it should not come as a surprise.

Musicgirl Tue 22-Oct-24 14:35:31

Also, in a café in one branch of M and S, we were shocked at a sign on a coffee machine telling us that that one of the filters aren't working.

The Benenden Health radio ad (Absolute Radio) drives me crazy. "Healthcare done different" Shouting "differently" at the radio has not made any difference!

Lizzie44 Tue 22-Oct-24 14:50:46

Anything goes these days. Even the BBC is happy to use different "to" rather than "from".
Thanks Rosies Maw 2, I love the elves as subordinate clauses and will always think of them thus from now on.
