You give your guisers money, OP? I have never heard of that .Don't put out a pumpkin if you don't want guisers. It's not compulsory, you know.

You’re a little ray of sunshine OP ☀️
No money requested or given here, just excited littlies in costume with parents excited to be out in the dark and allowed to have sweets!

I am pleasantly surprised so many houses in my area have been "dressed" for Halloween.
I have always put out Pumpkins, Bats, lights etc since my Kids were little and still do.

Every other year when they were small,we would to turn our double Garage into a Spooky Grotto for all the children in the area.
Other Parents helped with food, drink etc they all had a fabulous time, running around dressed up and a nice memory. It's one fun day.

I always understood if your house is "dresses" in some way, they are happy
for doors to knock for " Trick or treat". Never have we been asked for money. I turn it all off about 7 pm, by then we would have run out of sweets.

This year I have my little Granddaughters staying, so my DD is bringing her 4 year old here, we can dress them up, then we will all go out Trick or Treating then back here for Spooky food (curtesy of M&S).

When did this "festival" get so very out of hand? And, tbh, it's an almost legitimate excuse to go scrounging - but try to get away with handing Trick or Treaters a fistful of Quality Street. They. Want. Hard. Cash!

Where do you live FFS? We just have a tub of sweets by the front door and hand them out. Nobody has complained or demanded money with menaces, so far.

I’m sad that I’m on quite an isolated development with no little ones to call. Where DD1 lives has an amazing night with hundreds of families, in costume, turning out to fill the streets. Unfortunately she’s away, so we won’t be joining in this year. DD2 and family are joining Nursery friends on another new development where Halloween in celebrated in a child friendly way. No money changes hands, the little ones just take a single sweet from the basket on offer.

Cash? Not round our way. It's all sweets. Ww2 your post nearly had me in tears. It's so true!

I'm ready for the little rapscallions to come pestering. I don't use cash anyway, so never have any in the house. The rascals will have to make do with the homemade goodies I baked yesterday, and if they don't want them, I'll just eat the lot.

Pedants’ corner?
Or Moaning Miseries’ United?
Never mind, saw my first Christmas Ad on TV recently, once Hallowe’en is over, we can moan about that.

We await with pleasure as the two tinies from next door come trooping in dressed up with mum in tow.

Then in turn they will be standing at their bedroom window on Saturday when my family make merry in the garden with chimera, roasted marshmallows, and fireworks.

Exciting time of year for children! Although my G-children are in their twenties, but insist on carrying on with the tradition. They now bring their girlfriends.

Such things memories are made of, which will be remembered long after we are gone.

They most definitely aren’t scroungers in my street. Cute children dressed up with mums and dads in tow. I love it!

Life is miserable for many at the moment, halloween’s current popularity I think reflects people want some escapism and fun.

Don’t have decorations up (I’m sure you don’t by your post) and keep your hall light off, I’m sure you won’t be bothered.
