The eighth day in a row of unbroken, dull, dreary grey cloud. Give me strength!

We have had beautiful sunny days here in Conwy, yesterday morning it was quite warm with blue sky. It was Guy Fawkes day, when I was a child we were wrapped up for the bonfire and fireworks, climate change.

Depressing isn't it! Watery sun in Edinburgh today, but cloudy and grey

leeds22 Wed 06-Nov-24 12:33:35

North Yorkshire here - the sun is just peeping through the clouds outside my window and it's about 14 C. Must get out to do some gardening.

Second day of thick fog here in my part of Wales - can hardly see a hand in front of your hand!!

Yes would love some sun. We got back from holiday on Saturday so still trying to catch up on laundry. Not cold here (Norths Notts) but overcast and damp. I've hung things out on the line but have to finish them off in the dryer.

I don’t care what Thomas Hood says, I’d like a little bit of sun.

I'm with you! Who is Thomas Hood anyway? Fed up with needing the lights on pretty much all day.

What is 'the sun'?

Calendargirl Wed 06-Nov-24 14:55:00

It’s November after all.

If we didn’t have winter, we wouldn’t appreciate summer, would we?

You need a balance, sunshine and showers, light and dark, warm and cool, hot and cold….

There’s a lot to be said for drawing the curtains, putting on your dressing gown and watching tv or reading a good book.

In the summer months, you always feel you should be out there, doing something.

Not so much when it’s cold and dark.

I like to see the sun even for a short period each day. I would just like to say don’t forget to take your vitamin D

MissAdventure Wed 06-Nov-24 15:07:01

I'm not worried about seeing the sun, as long as its not raining relentlessly.

Bridie22 Wed 06-Nov-24 15:10:50

It's just popped out here after 5 grey murky cold days. 🌞🌞🌞

AGAA4 Wed 06-Nov-24 15:15:31

I'm grateful that it's dry. We've had so much rain here over this year. At least I can go out without getting drenched.

Cold and damp and grey here - good job I love the north west 🌞🙏🏽😵‍💫

It’s the same in the South West. It was so grey and damp this morning it looked as if we’d had some rain. I love the South West most of the time just not on days like this. I couldn’t even bring myself to go for a walk with DH. Please can we have some sun.☀️ I think I’m going to escape to Padstow.

According to my weather forecast, it will be sunny on Friday of this week.

I am happy just as long as it does not rain. I don't intend to go out, as I am redecorating the kitchen and for many good reasons the work has dragged on FAR TOO LONG.

Hope to finish painting the ceiling tomorrow and then AT LAST I can start papering the walls.

I suggest you find some indoor job that you have been putting off for a while and get it done in the dull weather. The glow of self-satisfaction will warm you just as well as the sunshine.

To Shinamae, rafichagran and others.
I was so pleased to find that I'm not the only person who loves this weather: the autumn colours of the leaves, the almost velvety texture of the grey skies, the leaves on the ground (to scuff through when no-one is watching), the indulgence of wearing sparkly gloves, the sense of "putting the allotment to bed", and then curling up in front of the fire in our one warm room (pity we're in a smoke-free zone) with a good book. Haven't seen many of the speckled spiders this year - the ones which make the beautiful hexagonal webs which have diamonds of dew caught on them in the mornings. Just waiting for the autumn crocuses and winter jasmine to start flowering.

Autumn is absolutely my favourite season, followed by winter.

I think that's what Autumn and Winter are made for grandetante - cleaned out my wardrobe today as it was a bit cold and damp outside.

Oh I so hope we get a true, proper winter this year. We are well equipped and love cold, crisp temperatures and proper snow.

Witzend Wed 06-Nov-24 18:41:23

Yes, it’s very dreary at the moment, but we had several beautiful days on the trot quite recently.

On the plus side, even on such a dull day, I passed a long stretch of most gloriously coloured beech trees while driving from Oxford to SW London today - all gorgeous golds and russets. Would have been even more gorgeous with a bit of sun on them, but heigh ho….

Bluesmum Wed 06-Nov-24 20:05:23

I know for certain I will see the sun at the end of next January, when I arrive in Perth WAmforb three months! I hate these grey days, but grateful it is not raining!

Bluesmum Wed 06-Nov-24 20:06:09

Apologies for dreadful typos!

Let’s hope there won’t be too much heat in Perth, then. Friends of ours who live there had to leave their home for 48 hours last year because of bush fires that came frighteningly close.

My friend, has decided on a whim, to dump this awful weather and go away to India for 3 weeks. Lucky her - she has a house and family ( brothers) there. All she needs is her flight. She even keeps a set of summer clothes there. I’m soooo jealous 🤢

I am sure she will have a lovely time. But I am an Autumn/winter person and wouldn't swap a single day of those two seasons for time in a hot sunny country.
