Summer noise

Am I the only one who hates the summer? the noise drives me crazy. I totally understand that there are jobs and projects that can only be done in the fine weather, but there is no peace. Axle grinders, strimmers, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers and the children screaming. When I was young, and my girls, if we/they screamed we were told to stop it or come inside. There is no peace or relaxation and I am sick of the noise. I totally understand people sitting in their gardens and chatting, entertaining, but laughing, drinking , loud talking until after midnight??? Roll on Winter when the windows are closed, and the curtains drawn and I can be in my own space.

Can’t you close the windows and draw the curtains now if you are so upset at the sounds of summer ??

i used to love summer here its peacefull just the normal summer noises but this year sitting in the garden has been unbearable Gatwick airport has changed the flight paths and we have had constant planes over head incoming to the airport we even here it indoors as live in a park home so aircraft noise sometimes drowns out the tv or conversations we live over 20 miles from the airport and i really feel sorry for those who live nearer

Tizliz

10.30 - 11.15 last night, screaming and hooting outside. It was a baby short ear owl sitting on our wall demanding to be fed. It looked very sweet and fluffy but very noisy. Moved on eventually. Who says the country is quiet 😃😃

How lovely, Tizliz, the kind of noise we like to hear!

I miss the owl which used to sit in a conifer in a neighbouring garden and hoot at night. Unfortunately the tree had to be felled (it was dangerous) and I do miss the owl.
But not the conifer.

That must drive you to distraction and it is really not fair.
We used to have a dog living directly behind us which was left out in the garden while they were out at work all day and it barked endlessly all day. If it was (rarely) quiet, it was because a neighbour had taken pity on it and taken it in to her house. They moved eventually but it can't have been far because we could hear it from the other side of the valley.

Now we've got a yapper nearby!

You could tell her how much it upsets you , are there other neighbours who would back you up? Why would the family have dogs then expect an elderly woman to care for eight of them daily? 😯

During Covid I posted about our neighbours children screaming and shouting in the garden from dawn till dusk.
I was quickly criticised and shouted down ,people saying they loved to hear happy children playing.
I just wished I could change gardens with them.
I had to buy ear defenders to sit in my own garden.
It was exacerbated by the Father being at home all day joining in and encouraging them.
It really was horrendous.
A few years on and now it is the boy, older now, kicking a football monotonously into the fence, thud, thud, thud.
Another neighbour complacent and it quieted for a few days.
I have balls come over into my garden several times a week,
They have never once asked for them back, my S ,if he is here, throws them back but I have had 5 at a time here.

When people say live and let live they really can’t have the same noise as it really is intolerable.
OP has my sympathy.

I love summer, lawnmowers and strimmers have to be used to keep our gardens tidy, I don't like loud music, but I love to see and hear young children enjoying themselves, too many dreary winter days ahead,

I wholeheartedly agree.

I suppose one risks being called pedantic for pointing this out?

It has been said over and over that young children enjoying themselves is one thing, but incessant screaming is another thing entirely.
