Go’s (for goes)
Seen on a FB post.
I’m almost thinking of an award for the most original Pedants’ Corner candidate….

If you're a devotee of the Greengrocer's Apostrophe (or should it be Greengrocers' ?) it makes perfect sense 😆

Almost surprised it hasn't surfaced before.

Grannybags Fri 02-Jan-26 12:41:40

I’ve never seen that one!

Charleygirl5 Fri 02-Jan-26 13:57:21

Grannybags you obviously don't live near me in London. They sell apple's and orange's also.

And corjet’s

I saw Lunch boxe's on a sign outside a café, when OH and I were looking around a small town for somewhere to have lunch one day.

All the cafés in the same town had at least one spelling or punctuation error on their menu boards, but I had never seen that particular one before.

I had to think about that one! Presumably courgettes?

A poster on another forum is fond of box’s and bus’s. And lately I’ve seen Christmas’s, too.

My favourite (found on FB Marketplace) was a woman who was looking for a cheap long more.

Several times I have seen dose instead of does.

Has there been a surge in the misuse of apostrophes or am I just noticing it more.

Which town so I can avoid it?

Astitchintime Wed 07-Jan-26 18:20:14

I’ve seen dose used in place of does!
And using OF in place of HAVE really makes me lose my *t!

In North London I saw a sign offering a 'Foot Manicure'.

sodapop Wed 11-Feb-26 12:04:07

I saw a comment which said King Charles should reign in Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. Still not sure if it was a pun or an error.

We all know that their are are a lot people who don’t/ can’t spell properly.
We also have to be aware of the fact that there are 10s of thousands of people here where English isn’t their first language.
My friends son who is dyslexic had a sign on his bedroom door saying you cant come in here. Obviously it was explained to him that the word wasn’t appropriate 😂

TheSunRisesInTheEast Wed 11-Feb-26 14:06:48

I'll leave it to someone else to comment on your post - I don't want to be pedantic! 🙄😂

Romola Wed 11-Feb-26 14:17:56

The greengrocer's apostrophe has become an established convention. It makes me smile.

AuntieE Wed 11-Feb-26 14:49:28

I read recently that the busses have been badly delayed due to snow and ice on the roads.

Grammaretto Wed 11-Feb-26 15:03:17

This isn't fair as it's a second language or third but quite funny.
