bruha your grief is the link to the dog you lost, Danny. You just have to go there and allow yourself to mourn him. It is a measure of how much he meant to you.

ILL DOG&
(42 Posts)I'm a newbie I have 5 dogs & 1 cat
One of my dogs Danny a Irish rescue aged about 6yrs has been in my vets for 6 days on a drip while they find out what is causing excess calcium in his blood what I would like to ask do I or do I not visit him will it upset him etc My vet say's it up to me
Having already lost Amymay a dog in Sept & Mattie a cat the Sunday before Xmas I'm begining to think life got it in for me lol
phoenix is absolutely spot on with her post at 19.30, and thanks for posting the Rainbow Bridge piece too. I've also seen that before but it still brings a big lump to my throat. I think that those of us who have dogs could not fail to be affected by it.
Only problem is - if we are to be met by our dogs when we finally arrive at the Rainbow Bridge I think some of will be overwhelmed by the number of dogs who meet us
I have read this before and it still brings tears to my eyes.
I just wonder if all my past dogs will get on - Grace can be a grumpy bitch with other dogs and Jock took being highly strung to a whole new level. Islay the black lab and Icy (Sunrise Ice) the previous greyhound were both "whatever" dogs - they would just wag their tails whatever. Even my cleaner used to be able to hoover round Icy by lifting one paw at a time, whereas Grace is terrifed of "Henry" the hoover.
Thnking of you Bruha - give the other animals an extra hug
Not sure if this is your thing, but I have posted it before and some have liked it;
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
or even Phoenix .
Take the advice of Pheonix !
Do not , repeat do not beat yourself up .
One day you will wake up and he won"t be the first thing on your Mind .x
Now look here! Please do think of him, remember all the joy that he brought you, and the love that you and he shared, and be proud of yourself that you did the right thing for him.
Allow yourself grieving time, there may be some out there that don't understand, and think that certain emotions should be saved for humans, but sod 'em I say.
Love, empathy and understanding to you and to the pets you still have that will be missing Danny too.
Many thanks for your understanding messages I'm trying very hard not to think about him or I will be crying all the time
My other dogs just have to sneeze and I'm looking for the vets telephone number. Poor Tommy wouldn't take his heart tablet last night I was nearly hysterical trying to get him to take it.
I thought it would get easier losing a pet as I got older in fact its worse
Bruha so, so sorry to hear about Danny. It's always extra hard when a young dog goes before his time. I've had lots of dogs over the years but the hardest was the death of a young Lhasa. JAB is right to say take comfort in the good life he did have; the good life you gave him
Bruha so sorry to hear about Danny
. Take comfort in the fact that you gave him a good life, you obviously loved him a lot. I know exactly how you feel and all the wishes in the world won't help you at the moment, but try to remember them all, because in the future you will find it helps to think back and recall how many people cared. We had a Jack Russell called Snowy for 16 years and she was the most perfect creature, when we lost her we thought we would never get over it, now we can remember her and enjoy the memories of all the fun we had with her. I'm sure the same will be for you. Meantime we are all here for you.
Thinking of you, much empathy.
Sorry, Bruha. It's such an awful feeling of loss.
from another dog lover. It is so hard but you have to love them enough to let them go. I know that doesn't help with the empty space, but as far as he is concerned, you loved him for ever and spared him extra suffering which he could never have understood.
for you
So, so sorry Bruha. We lost our lovely Pepper in an accident, not through illness, but I can still imagine the pain and sorrow that you`re going through. Best wishes to you.
Bruha I'm so very sorry to hear this sad news. Losing our lovely dogs is the awful price we pay for having that wonderful companionship, hopefully for many years. I can imagine how bereft you feel, and all I can do is offer you my sincere sympathy
So sorry it is bad news bruha , I shall be thinking of you. (((hugs)))
Bruha I'm so sorry to hear that you've lost your lovely dog. It's like losing an arm or leg, so upsetting.
Of Bruha I'm so sorry to hear your news, it's unbelievably tough when you have to make those decisions.
for you
Bruha I am so sorry, you have given Danny a lovely life just think of that.
Oh Bruha , I am soooo sorry to hear that news .
At least though he is not in pain anymore .
Trouble is when a pet goes it takes a long time to get over it .You keep seeing them in your minds eye don"t you ?
Again so sorry .
Had a phone call this morning from my vet, test have come back its cancer and he was so poorly that we decided it was best to let him go peacefully.
I can't stop crying he was only 6 I have a 17yr old Shih Tzu Tommy who I expect to lose but still going strong but you don't expect to lose them so young. Thats 3 of my badies I've lost in the last 4 months.
Sorry its bad news
I know we don't care when it is our beloved pet, but this must be costing you a fortune unless you have insurance! I look forward to hearing more about his progress in due course, come on here to let out your emotions, you will feel better for it.
Take heart from the fact he's being spoilt by the vets and staff Bruha
Don't apologise for missing him and getting tearful Bruha - all of us who share our lives with dogs will quite understand. They weave their way into our hearts and really become one of the family. I quite understand how you must miss having him at your feet
Thank you for all your messages
Danny is still at the vets on a drip 9 days now, we are waiting for a specialise blood test which the vet had to get a kit sent to him and then sent by courier to I think Cambridge Vet Hospital hope I'm making sense.
He hasn't eaten for a fortnight The trouble is it effects the kidneys.
He is being spoilt by the all vets & nurses and I do ring up every day
By the way he is a mixer looks like a x between a Basset Hound & Springer
I do miss him he always lays at my feet and I keep thinking he is there
I'm getting tearful again sorry
Thank you again
