Dogs keeping silent.

We went to a Cancer Research UK Relay for Life event last night and there was a 1 minute silence to remember the people who have been lost to cancer.
There must have been about 20 dogs there and we were getting the occasional woof out of them.
Thinking about it I don't think any of them barked during the 1 minute silence.
I am just wondering if dogs get a sense of the seriousness of the situation?.
Andie just stood to dog attention and seemed to be paying his respects.
He never met my wife.
As soon as the silence ended he did bark at another dog.

He may well have been mimicking your demeanour, Frank and not seeing anything to be alarmed about, kept quiet. I truly don't think they think but I do believe that our animals can sense our moods or emotions.

I think this is a hard time for you Frank. Andie doubtless could sense your mood as Grace said, some dogs are good like that.

I once joined the survivors at a Relay for Life, Frank. I think the candles at sunset ceremony was one of the most moving things I have ever been a part of.

I agree with gracesmum in that I too believe that animals and particularly dogs can sense our moods and emotions.

Dogs learn 'rules' about expected behaviour. The daycare place where my dog goes sometimes has 40 dogs playing and chasing, as well as training and rolling round, but you don't hear a peep from them. The staff have a signal for 'shush' if any of them start barking, and another for 'speak.'

when I would love to see that grin

Sook I've just uploaded a photo of the dogs on my profile, if you want to take a look. Tried to add another, but it just duplicates the same photo - gremlins again!

Ariadne

You said '' I think the candles at sunset ceremony was one of the most moving things I have ever been a part of''.

I totally agree with you.

The opening and closing ceremony is also very important.

Unfortunately we do not have a Relay close to us so that is the part of the ceremony which we try to attend.

Last night we travelled just under 50 miles each way.

There is a feeling of togetherness and we felt part of the ceremony last night even though we do not know anybody in Nottingham.
