People may think I am being cruel to Andie today.

Andie is sleeping in the garage on some old vinyl today.
I have an up and over door with about a half inch gap on the bottom and his nose is very near it.
I don't think the garage is the most pleasant place in the house but Andie has gone there of his own accord so I think it is best to let him stay.
He does go out in the garden occasionally to water the plants.
He is drinking a little more and eating a bit less but I think this is understandable in this heat.
I have given him a cup of tea and a bit of biscuit which is his favourite and he drank this within about 5 minutes.

My dog has been flat out in a shallow paddlng pool this morning. She's drunk most of it! grin

Grace is clearly not the brightest of dogs - she has been lying out on the grass in full sun and then hyperventilating Have to shut her in this afternoon as being white she risks burning.

I do hope that the tea has not got milk in it ? Milk is not good for dogs .

hmmmmm

The vet said not to put too much milk in it but he thought 2 cups of tea a week would be ok.

Oddly a cat got in the house a while ago and stole Andie's food.
I know dog food is not supposed to be good for cats but the owner rang the vet advice line and they said dog food would not harm him as long as the cat did not have it often.

I am relieved to hear that Frank.

Just another point.
Our previous dog had tea as well with a little milk and he lived till he was 17.
He was forever in the vets for lots of unrelated problems.
The vets did an equivalent of a pets NHS at that time so they charged a monthly fee and the treatment was free at the point of delivery.
I did ask the vet if he would go on treating him when he was about 14 and he said of course and he only charged the normal monthly fee for dogs.
The vet did say he did not think he had a very good deal from a financial point of view with our previous dog but he said he was getting a reasonably good quality of life.
I think our dog thought the vets was his second home.
I think the staff at the vets were sad when he passed away as I think he was almost regarded as partly belonging to them.

Dogs are far from being daft aren't they they will seek out the coolest place where they are comfortable, with regard to grace how funny is she maybe she is after a suntan, one of our late dogs a black lab would lie in the snow all day if you let him and only come in under sufferance.

My cat will only eat dog food. confused

Don't worry Merlotgran we used to have a cat that would only eat dog food. The vet said it was OK as long as we fed a vitamin supplement too, we used to buy it from the local pet shop but I can't remember what it was called. Tried several different cat foods but she just wouldn't eat them. The cat lived a good long life...

Someone I knew worked for a pet food manufacturer. He swore that cat food was tested by human tasters because cats are fussy whereas dogs will eat anything. I hope he was kidding.

Dogs certainly eat anything. One of our previous dogs used to follow the cat to watch where it dug its holes and then went snacking. Sorry to anyone eating their tea. We asked the vet if it was harmful and reassured that it would not harm her.

Cats shouldn't have dog food all the time because they need taurine (for their eyes I think) and dogs don't.

I remember seeing a cat food taster on television years ago anno he said the expensive ones were like pate if you spread them on toast.

A previous boss used to buy dog food, but had no pet. She was very thrifty so we imagined her making it into pies! I am sure it would do no harm.
